I’ve decided to post this due to the fact that some of you are still going around and happily exposed your email or any social platform that is related to you. Unless that’s not your main account, then it is okay to do so, as long as it doesn’t connected to any critical website, such as Paypal for instance.
Now why do you think that such matter is so important? It’s not like anyone would find you just by email right? If I were to hear that, I would take a baseball bat, nailed it, pour gasoline and some rabies, then slap a sticker with a big no, set it on fire, then hit you hard with it cause you’re just that wrong. Very wrong. Keep this in mind, as technology progress, it became way easier to get someone information once you know how. And not just information, they might be able to infiltrate your privacy, thus every move is known but we’ll get to that later.
DOXING INFORMATION
Doxing is the process of retrieving, hacking and publishing other people’s information such as names, addresses, phone numbers and credit card details. Doxing may be targeted toward a specific person or an organization. There are many reasons for doxing, but one of the most popular is coercion. - Techopedia
It is one of the basic techniques that a person would use to get information on someone. It can be that he’ll ask your friends about your info (social engineering), or you just decided to post that email publicly just because yolo. One of a basic way to Dox on you is just by using Google. Try to type in "gaben@steam.com" along with the quotation mark in the search box and it’ll return you a very accurate history of your email. This is what we call Digital Footprint. For example, if your email was associated to a website, it will show that. Remember, every tiny bits of information counts as long as it bounce back to you.
Let’s say all the info he finally gathered consist of your full name, Skype, phone number and Facebook. Now, from here on out, he will send a friend request and began monitoring all the things that is needed for his desire such as extortion to get money.
PASSWORD
It is easier to know your email password if you kept using simple ones to remember such as your own birth date. This will make it a lot easier for him to get inside and take control of everything. This is why you should use combination of alphabet. numbers and symbol to make it even harder. However, no matter how hard your password may be and it’s not active, to jack in would be a snap and he didn’t even need to use your password. A program called R.A.T or better known as Remote Administration Tool may allow them to do just that. What is a R.A.T?

Ever heard of TeamViewer? Well that is one of the legal ones where it needs both party to agree. Keep in mind that there are the bad ones. I’m not gonna tell the name as you might be searching for them as I’ve seen a lot of case, mostly involve girls, getting their nudes exposed and extortion. This is a very serious matter. He’ll be using his social engineering to get to know you, or use your email by sending a catchy and legit formal mail. Such as he can imitate ToS staff and say something regarding about the program that needs to be downloaded to patch up the old one.
Your antivirus may not be able to detect the program but if does, it will have a “Persistence” mode in which it can never be shutdown. Your best of bet is just to reformat your whole PC. What can a R.A.T do? Well just imagine you lose every control to your computer, he can, in fact, use everything, your webcam, your mouse, your files, everything. From here on out, your privacy has been breached. He might locked your computer and asks for money so everything wouldn’t be deleted, or just be silent and spy everything that you do, steals your password to every site, and the worst of all, for girls, is nude and extortion just like I said before.
SUMMARY
What I’ve just wrote about BARELY scratched the surface but you can see how much the damage can be done. There are a lot, and I mean, a lot of ways what can a person do if he gets your email especially if he has some nasty plot like a stereotype final fantasy bad guys. I’ve seen some cases before in MMO where people got their life turned up side down, some loses his money in paypal, some were violently harassed, and there was one who committed suicide because she can’t stand it anymore.
Thus, with all of this, be really careful when you wanted to give your email or facebook to someone as one can be a two face to get to you. Treat this as a golden rule when you are on the internet. Don’t think it’s a place only filled with cats and rainbows, no. I’ve seen some dark and terrible ones that’ll make you puke your innards.
