Implementing Rank Resets

With all the hoopla regarding this topic, I just wanted to regurgitate this idea I posted a while back as I feel it’s a win win for all parties involved. I’ve read some other very compelling ideas like a rebirth with super exp boost and shared attributes for your entire team. Personally I’d be happy with a reset in any way shape or form, as there are many more levels planned, and it’ll keep getting more time consuming to reroll as more ranks are released, but preferably something with restrictions to keep everyone content and to encourage players to put some thought into planning their builds.

  1. Allows you to erase 1 rank from your character.

  2. Must be class level 15 to use.

  3. Can only swap for same rank or lower (no 2x rank 7, 3x rank 6, 4x rank 5, etc).

  4. Must do advancement quest and level up the new class choice from scratch as usual.

  5. Has a cool down period of 30 days (or w/e number is suitable enough to prevent abuse).

With the constant class balancing being done by the dev team, this system will provide a way for high level characters to repair their entire class synergy without having to make a new character and losing their hard earned attributes, achievements, etc… I believe it’s a fair middle ground compared to other requests that ask for multiple ranks or a complete reset without much or any compromises. There are enough restrictions in place here to prevent abuse so you can’t freely switch classes depending on the content you want to switch your focus towards.

If possible, the exp required to level the new class choice would be equivalent to the earliest rank you can normally pick that class. That means by choosing say Peltasta you’ll level very quickly since it’s only rank 2 but swapping Warlock for Featherfoot will require the usual amount of effort for a rank 7.

If something as mainstream as a potion is just not possible due to coding and whatnot then perhaps an extra service available first by purchasing some special kind of token with TP and then completing the final steps through website/forum. I’ve played a few games where such services existed and it’s just so nice to have such a feature after you’ve invested so much time and money into a certain character.

Q & A:

Q: Wouldn’t a rank reset kill off the low level dungeon and mission population?

A: It’s currently bad enough as it is, with some reports of waiting hours to find a dungeon/mission party. People will still roll a new character to try completely different builds or class trees and to build their team level, so I don’t see how this would hinder you in any way. There are tons of reasons why the low level population is hurting but a rank reset is not one of them. If anything, it’ll bring back many players, especially the casuals whom only have time for dungeons and missions on most days.

Q: What about the folks that went full PVE for easy leveling, then switch to PVP build?

A: That’s why you put restrictions in place so you can’t abuse the system. Sure this system will mean they can eventually get there, but that’s a lot of waiting, possibly months depending on how many changes you need. Rerolling is still the best choice for this matter.

Q: Why don’t people just reroll like I do?

A: So many reasons that’ll vary from person to person. Time constraints due to real life commitments, tedious quests, the lengthy time to find a dungeon/mission party, the list goes on. Also, if you’re level 550 let’s say and your perfectly fine build received the nerf hammer for no good reason, will you still reroll?
