Impact of Barbarian c1 in levelling a Rodelero build

If I’m trying to make a Rodelero build for 2 circles at least (ranks 4 and 5), what earlier classes can I take to improve quality of life during levelling?
Not planning to use a spear btw, going for sword + shield.
Thinking of doing something like this for now:

Swordsman > Peltasta > Barbarian > Rodelero c1 > Rodelero c2 > Doppel > (undecided)

I’ve thought about replacing Barbarian with Highlander.
Which would make levelling easier, Cartar Stroke or Helm Chopper & Cleave?

helm and cleave are good at that level. decent enough damage and good hit boxes.

Yeah and then they fall like a rock, without Barb investing in C3.
