I get 160ms+ to the server living like 20 hours flight away from it, something is definitely wrong and no matter how bad the routing is it shouldn’t ever get that high.
I’ll be posting the data on my side soon.
Hi Siete, can you provide a tracert screenshot to the ToS server that you are connecting to?
I am certified in A+ Net+ CCNA and Security+. I have to say that I believe you that you are having an issue with your connection. However, a ping only tells you that you have a problem, but it doesn’t tell you where the problem is. You have to realize that you are not connecting directly to IMC’s server via a fiber point-to-point WAN. There is probably 30+ routers that jumps between you and the server. So provide a tracert info here and some of us can give you some advice.
PS. I’m trying to put this in layman’s term. I don’t know what type of architect IMC is using for their internal network setup. However, I am pretty certain that they do not have their connection directly hooked up to their server. That would be a huge security risk. There definitely is an edge router and that is what you are connecting to first when you reach IMC’s server.
Sure, problem is right now server’s IP can’t be pinged but here’s the routing http://i.imgur.com/xS2edDe.png
I am looking at it right now.
But no, most of the time an edge router has tracert beyond their private network disabled. This is to protect the client. You don’t other people to know the vlan you have setup. It is normal. As long as you hit their edge router, then it is fine, everything else inside their network doesn’t matter and won’t affect the ping rate that much.
I used to be able to ping them that way, maybe that’s how they got DDoS’d
Here’s my ping in game at the same time of the tracert, I went to an empty map because Klaipeda(Town, not server) gave me even worse ping.
Yeah, again, ping really doesn’t tell you much. It only verifies that you have a problem but it doesn’t tell you where the problem it.
I am looking at your tracert info now. For one, you must be on a large private LAN network. Perhaps it is for a school. But there is several hops from it. This doesn’t matter but I am looking further into this. From just looking at your tracert, I can tell you that you are being throttled though. Your LAN network stops at the first request timeout. This request time out is your Large Lan network’s edge router. It restrict incoming tracert info. Thus you can’t get a reply back. But you can get a reply from your other router because you are tracing from the inside, not the other way out. Give me just a minute.
I’m at home, connecting straight to the router through cable?
Yes, ignore what I told you. I was only starting to analyze your connection just by telling you what I see.
192.168 and 10. IPs are private IPs. Your connection is fine there. There is no drop so don’t worry about it.
192.168 is probably your own modem or router. The 10. IP is a large LAN IP. Perhaps it is what your ISP/city is contracted to. But looks like your main ISP is Laitno American Carribean. or CPS. This is your gateway to the outside world. Perhaps your ISP created a large LAN in your city to hook everyone on and everyone share that 1 gateway. But this is all fine. This is not where the problem is. I’m still checking.
Okay, thanks for the assistance.
I really hope to see what the issue is in order to collect info from more people and forward it to IMC.
From my case it is first stated that my ISP has poor routing route. But then again I’ve tried gaming vpn that should fix that IMHO. But the ping has little to no improvement. To add the salt, I have lower pings with NA and EU games.
Okay, sorry about the wait. First, before I got on, I have to say that IMC nor your ISP will solve your problem. You can try complaining to both but I think your efforts will be futile. You are definitely being throttled from these reading. And you are being queued. Being queued by a router is probably worse than throttling. I really do suggest an alternative service such as WTFast or Pingzapper. Yes, you will have to pay, but this would be the easiest route for you. And no, it will not improve your ping at all. (unless the VPN you picked has a better route) But it will stabilize it.
The main problem is Telecom Italia. Your gateway ISP is handing your connection off to a global service provider and it is Telecom Italia. Your packet is being queued in their route. As you see, you have two route specifically set to 89.221.41.177. This happens when router is putting lesser urgent ISP on hold. And yes, ISP has importance and rankings. ISP like AT&T will always trump over another small ISP like Suddenlink when they are being hand off let’s say to Level3. This is the “package” your ISP purchased from the global ISP to run on their backbone. You do not have choice in this. Furthermore, you are trying to connect to Orsha. This is going via the long way. Luckily it is Amazon. If it wasn’t, you will be having even harder time. Because Amazon has their own point-to-point network. As you can see, the first hop to amazon is 54.240.229.46 and you are now in Amazon’s external network.
To be honest, I really do feel your pain. You enjoy this game but this is like a road block standing in your way. If I were in your shoes, I would really look into another route. That is what VPN service such as WTFast provide. They diverge your route so that it can go another direction. I feel like you are going oversea by satellite because there is no hops through other countries.
I do want to correct you by saying that a server does NOT control ping rate. Server will just reply the next request regardless. Router and switches control ping rates. Furthermore, people have to understand that IMC has nothing to do with the server quality. IMC is renting Amazon servers to utilize for their game. This is Amazon’s cloud. All IMC can do is to submit a trouble ticket when the server is having trouble. The only access they have is a client user interface.
Also, VPN does work if you can find the right path. First, when you are planning to purchase service from VPN, you have to look for what you are shopping for. Not all VPN provide service to your location and sometimes the jump is so far that it isn’t worth it. VPN also doesn’t reduce ping most of the times. (And again, unless you find another route). It only stabilize it.
Although that’s Klaipeda’s IP? I got it from resource monitor being connected to Klaipeda. Also, why the ping issues only happen in the game at certain times and why is it fine in the first minutes after a maintenance is over?
Yes, my mistake, I looked at the wrong IP on the serverlist file. Your tracert is connecting to Klaipeda.
Most like it is because you are being queued by Telecom italia. Your packet is being held in their router to wait for an available route to open. This is the case from the tracert you provided. I would try to find another route to bypass Telecom italia then.
How is Telecom Italia affected by IMC’s servers?
Also, I’d like the rest of the people to provide a tracert as well, because if you check the thread, more people with different ISPs from different countries are experiencing increased latency.
…Spoilt OP, that’s fast internet. As someone with 0.8 ping on a good day, I swat you with my newspaper!
Forgive me for my lack of knowledge in this area.
According to what you mentioned
Correct me if I’m wrong, but server distance is one of the major factors in determine pings. From my point, I should get lower ping than usual. But it might be from the Amazon Cloud rental thing.
Regarding the VPN, yes I use one to stabilize game, but this game still spikes.
Again, I might be wrong.
Why don’t you provide a Tracert for him to check like I did? It would help everyone a lot.
Other people experiences the same problem as you and me and I’m sure Telecom Italia is not routing them like my ISP.
Also, lag begins ~30 mins after maintenance is over, first 30 mins I get stable ping.
I’m usually quite stable, and I’m not noticing any queueing on my tracert, if I understand what @yggtreeberry is pointing out. Also, have fun knowing my ISP and having a good idea of where I live.
