IMC. Can you guys respond to the EXP situation/debate?

The debate on exp is getting tired. Just say something about your plans on it so we can move on.

I agree.
Please respond. Our “version” seems not as balanced (even skills are not up-to-date) as the korean version.

All we need is the opinions of the Dev Team on this topic and what they plan to do.

They give us their opinion certainly at the end of the cb. Wait some days and dont be so impatient.

It’s not impatience when you have a thread within the forums, about this topic, with multiple straw polls, all about the topic of exp in the beta, with 102 replies from beta testers, and no response from the people presenting the product.

Is this really impatience?

Early or later IMCGames clarify this, but theyre also need time because the exp rates are in development atm.
I hope they gonna think more and dont rush to optimize the exp. If they do it right, they are a lot happy player, if they do it wrong, only a small party of the players gonna like this game.

I’m not asking for any changes or optimizations. I’m asking for clarification on a subject that obviously has high user interest and concerns attached to it. Again, when you have an ongoing thread with over 100 replies something needs to be said so that people understand what’s going on. At the end of the day this is a product they are trying to sell to us. Feedback is a must not a luxury.

I feel you , homie.

Now all they need to do is state that.

Don’t worry, they will clarify their decisions. IMC games is a small team. Also kCBT is also going on at the same time as our iCBT, they have a lot of data to collect. Can’t forget about the language barrier, I reckon few members of their team can understand english, and I imagine that they have to repass our feedback to their superiors(“bosses”) before making a concrete statement.
They might not make changes to EXP rate until the end of iCBT thou but we can still enjoy and test the early maps of the game anyways, can’t we?

We will likely get a statement on things after the CBT has ended. Given what a surprise this has been for lots of players coming from modern Themepark MMOs where you just chug along the traintracks to level cap, I’d be surprised if we didn’t get a comment from the team on EXP, though I doubt anything is finalized at this point.

Something important to keep in mind when discussing and thinking about the current EXP Progression is that this all of our first times playing the game. We don’t know where to grind, what to do, how to deal with quests, or even how much content will be in these areas to fill them out later on.
After release, the leveling will exponentially become shorter. As of right now we have no information, experience, or resources in/with the game. After we get our hands on it we’ll have wikis, guides, and enhanced leveling methods that with severly cut down on progression time, so this isn’t nearly as large an issue as it’s made out to be by many people who have just come from training wheels-on games like WoW and W*.

Just want to remind you guys that we live in Europe and America, while they live in Korea. It’s quite a bit of timezone difference.
Hopefully they’re awake at this moment, and getting ready to read through all this new feedback that accumulated overnight.

I though about (1) but then I feel like it’s stupid if they do that without clarifying to us. This is a bash directly to the game-play and we are supposed to report feedback about the game-play too. This messes a lot with the feedback they will receive. We see that this problem is the most discussed topic now and all of this will be for nothing except for giving us a wrong impression / experience on what the game will actually be, negatively affect our testing. If they want to limit the contents they should use other methods and / or let us know, after all everyone understands that this is only the first beta test for our international server.

(2) will make me and many others quit the game right away and I trust IMC that they won’t jump down such a cliff.

This again. Seeing as you are also a RO player and used the game as an example in another thread, let me also use RO to explain my point. In RO, even on the first day you play, you still have a lot of places to explorer, many options for leveling will be brought right to you very early on after you get out of the novice school, this isn’t happening in ToS, everything feels very linear now! So you are forced to grind linearly!

Also I never once see anyone who pointing out this problem talked a single word about WoW or anything, actually most of them are former RO players so you are making a lot of baseless assuming about the people and the game.

If anything, former RO players are more sensitive to the problem since they have somewhat a concept of what is good grind and what is bad grind. The current ToS at this state is bad grind.

That’s the largest point I conceded to you!

The content we have now is somewhat bare and linear, and could better offer exploration and choices while grinding. Unfortunately, the large majority of complaints seem to miss this, or misplace their dislike of the current state of things.
I’m sure things will be fleshed out in the future, but as of now they are valid complaints, and when they are made they’re usually made in the fashion of cutting down the grind in and of itself instead of addressing the lack of content and player freedom.

I’m merely addressing the overwhelmingly common complaint of things being too long/slow/grindy, rather than addressing the issues with the content (or lack thereof) itself. The complaints of the threads are disappointingly ‘the exp sucks!’ ‘why do I have to grind???’ and ‘omg give us more exp’ rather than understanding that the content itself needs to be improved-- Complaints I dearly hope aren’t heard over ones like yours that will better the game, not simply cut chunks out of the progression time to pander to them without fixing the problems at hand.

I see it like this, we somewhat agreed that the grinding currently isn’t okay. About solution, your opinion (as well as mine and some others) seems to be wanting the game to be more “open”, have more early contents so grinding can be fun. Others feel okay with the linear process, they just don’t like the grind so they simply want the game to be less grindy.

How can we say that one’s opinion is better than the other? They may say that this is 2015 and grindy games are out fashioned, even though I never played or like WoW as well as any quest-oriented RPG because I was so “brain-washed” by RO, I still think their opinion is just as reasonable as ours. We want ToS to be more like RO and they may want ToS to have one or two things inherited from WoW or other games, ToS is neither of these games and nothing makes one opinion more valid than the other.

Also the people who create threads often try to explain their points in a logical manner, they don’t just complain, they try to give feedback about what they think are problems and and their thoughts on solutions. The people who simply complain are often do that as posts not threads as to show their agreement or disagreement to the threads and posts they replied to.

It’s no good grouping everyone who doesn’t disagree with you about something into a same group then base your judge on everyone like that. If you care to read and invest more into the topic then you would have read a lot more posts which are a lot more reasonable, well written and better manner than mine.

What I feel unreasonable are these behaviors:

  • “You just said something I feel related to WoW so you are a normalfag and what you said are wrong. My points are more valid because I play the less mainstream games, I am hardcore!”

  • “You just talked about something you don’t like about the game? Feeling like something is wrong about it and dare to write it out for others and the developers to read? You are a crybaby, spoiled stupid brats, actually I didn’t even read your post but there are a lot of posts with similar titles lately so I will just group you with these people who I think are stupid and don’t deserve our respect.”

  • “If you don’t like something about the game then why not just shut up, go play something else and leave this place all to us? After all feedback section is created purely for us, the real and only ones who really like the game and will keep it alive.”

When there are just too many subjective opinions throwing around it’s safer to consider the more popular ones as being more objective, more so when it comes to our enjoyment in a game. So if there are more people who against this grind than the people who defend it then the point is made.

Many of us are having a problem of being too self-righteous (of course it includes me all the time) and this is really sad seeing the community like this (well I too have my hands in making it like this).

what. you wanna hit max level in a week? don’t play the game then lolo.

guys they will eventually end up fixing it. I doubt theyll respond here, seeing most devs are korean anyway
