I agree that Ichors by design are a good thing and that the issue is the RNG portion of it, which is why I wonder if they are going to fix this. Given their statement.
The issue with HG gear is that it takes forever to get a perfect piece, so if you don’t wanna partake in gear progression (which any intelligent player is going to try to avoid) then you’re stuck with garbage gear for far too long since the drop rate for perfect primus pieces is so low.
Velcoffer is great because it allows you to work on other aspects of the gear that will be your forever gear, while you wait to find the hard part.
The issue is it’s as you said, locked behind ridiculous PvE for the “top 1% of players” Which (aside from not being an accurate %) is not even the top players, it’s the players who have the right friends. It’s not Entry level gear that you eventually upgrade to being BiS, it’s endgame gear. A great design, wasted as a prize for pointless content.
I’ve been saying this since Tera but, if you can already clear the hardest content without BiS gear, why do you need to get the BiS gear that the hardest content rewards?
One might submit the answer PvP but then why is the PvP gear being locked behind PvE content, that’s a problem of it’s own. (Not that Velcoffer is PvP gear, just a counter argument to that type of thinking.)
