Tree of Savior Forum

I'm new. What to expect?

The game is downloading and I’ve been reading the forums for roughly two hours…and oh my God…

The problems I have read with this game will not stop me from playing. Trust me I lived through the dark ages of Redstone from Game-n-Game when the dev’s wouldn’t respond either and there were bots everywhere. The forums looked about the same as these do so I’m used to this. The thing you have to remember is to stay positive and to hell with the dev’s. Just play the game and have fun and everything eventually works itself out.

Redstone may be a dead game now but the point is the game is still standing in the end and I’m sure this game will survive. I mean it’s brand new it’s not like the game is 15 years old like Redstone is, so if RS could survive ToS surely will. I’m sure you all waited for ToS for years like I did.

I never played Ragnarok but I’m old enough to have played and beat the original ‘‘Ragnarok’’ on DOS otherwise known as ‘‘Valhalla’’ before some of you guys were a sperm in your daddy’s sack.

If you are wondering what kind of player I will be here on the forums and in game just watch this…

Welcome!

I’m not sure what to say on what to expect, but i can try to give some tips.

Have you decided what class your are going to play and looked at the class simulator?

You might not have the best time if you dont plan that first. Because you can end up with something you don’t like and theres no way to reset it.

Here is the link if you havent been there… http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/

Well so far we are off to a great start…

How do I actually access a server? I tried clicking all of them and it comes up with a window that says FTP is locked and shows founders packs or something…

Oh, right now its only founder access which is for the first month. On April 28th its open for F2P.

If you plan to spend a bit of money on this game, the best thing you can do is wait until the week before F2P release when the founder packs get discounted. You can get 2 months worth of tokens and 650 TP, which you can buy 3 months of tokens with… not bad.

Or you could buy one of them now… or wait until it goes F2P and not have to spend anything.

At least you have options

Well I waited for years…I guess another few weeks won’t matter. Well I’m looking forward to playing with you guys in a few weeks anyway. By then this post will be long forgotten and maybe they will have a handle on the bots etc.

I’m not one of these ‘‘White Knights’’ these forums speak of and far from it. I’m a completely new player who has no idea whats going on and can only speak from prior similar experience. By the time the game goes FTP I can tell you that most bugs and bots will be gone for sure. The little detail people miss is that if a dev doesn’t respond to you they are probably busy fixing the issues with the game. Sometimes if you don’t get a response it’s because all dev’s are busy fixing those issues but don’t think they aren’t paying attention on the forums. A lot of old forum posts on the Redstone forums came back to bite the players who posted them so I’m speaking from experience guy’s…be careful and remember…

It’s just a game and you play games to have fun. If it’s stressful then you should move on to better things and come back later. Think of life like Dark Souls, you may have lost a million times but when you did win it was worth it.

Aside from all that. I have no idea about classes. I either like to be in a mobs face with a sword and shield while healing myself or stay really far away and doing some run and gun tactics. I never play mages etc. or thief classes as they tend to rely too heavily on dex or mana and are usually paper when it comes to HP.

Have you decided on a build yet? Might help the weeks pass by as you can potentially do a LOT of theory crafting with builds.

The game offers stat/skill resets for premium currency but it has never offered class resets (even back in closed betas) so build choice is really important here.

I like tanky healing classes with sword and shield and max block chance usually. I like a balance of both tank and damage and heals for soloing when I’m not in a party. I hate buying potions because if you have a spell in game that can heal why buy potions.

If it’s multiclass then I usually go full in one class and never multiclass at all. I’ve played Path Of Exile for years so the multiclass is nothing new and character theory. I guess I need to do some planning but I also like the trial and error as I don’t like to follow other peoples builds. The trial and error is where the fun is

Sounds like the traditional Paladin :sunny:

Your big mistake was to see the forums lol

Ignore all ppl crying, some are crying because the game is good, some cry cause the game is so bad, and others because a fly flied betweeen their face and the display, so ignore al crying post, then choose a class (based in how do you like to play), make a build (use tosbase simulator) and have fun, thats all

I always liked the Paladin. If the Paladin dies the entire party dies lol

I’ve been through this before and I totally agree with you. I like to have fun and know that people will complain even if the game was 100% perfect. You can’t please everyone so don’t even attempt to try. Maybe it’s a good thing I never played Ragnarok because my expectations are 0% right now so I’m coming in fresh.

If you have 7 minutes to spare check this out. That’s my brother and that’s the ‘‘Original’’ Ragnarok I played when I was younger. When my brother says ‘‘My brother beat it’’ he’s talking about me lol.

I’m kinda a legend in that regard for beating that near impossible game haha! Play that if you can track it down.

ToS right now, is an awesome Single Player experience with a party here and there. IMC leads the economy with an iron first right now, to discourage botters, So yeah, it’s a pretty solo economy experience and a neat story driven gameplay.

THIS IS A PRETTY BROAD QUESTION HAHA but let’s see (it might be different once you start playing though and these are just my personal impressions anyways)

Community:

  • I’d say turn off mics. Nearly everyone who mics is annoying or a spammer whoops
  • People however are generally nice face to face. humor in general is a bit cringy but shrugs so long as people are having fun
  • I think we have an older playerbase on average. Everyone I joined the game with is at least 21+ and I’ve ran into older working people along the way
  • People are a bit reluctant to party up these days for questing, but there are plenty of open people as well. I’d say try to be one of them if you feel like it, content goes a lot faster with an extra hand (depending on class) and it’s fun with others.
  • to be honest, I do not like the founder’s community. You might have a different experience, but I guess I’ve had bad luck with good eggs. I don’t like the general body of forumgoers either HAHA, though you probably have your own opinion on that. Too knee-jerk abrasive and very uninteresting. People take stuff very personally, even though they took pride in having a “paying community” or whatnot. There’s no group that stands out in particular.

Combat/Questing/Dungeons:

  • Quests and quest bosses should be fairly easy, minus spawns and rampant ksing. (I personally struggle with bosses because I’m pure support and basically have zero dps)
  • Dungeons are surprisingly tough without a healer. Do pay attention and avoid attacks, as having your armor break in a dungeon isn’t fun
  • The combat is very fun to me. I sometimes have issues aiming (attacks weirdly lock with autoaim) but it’s fairly intuitive(?) and reactive, and mob control requires some semblance of attention (well, this is speaking as someone who went 130 levels with only energy bolt HAHAHA)
  • You’ll get kb’d and knocked over quite a bit if you aren’t super careful
  • Monsters and quests are a bit repetitive, and you have to fight over spawns quite a bit. Makes working through quests a tiny bit painful at times but the areas are pretty at least.

Other Game Mechanics:

  • Class system is as fun as I expected. It’s really neat to reach a milestone level and advance (oooutfits) and class mixmatching has been interesting to me so far. I like my choice as a full support despite the difficulty (though i don’t recommend it. There was one instance where I couldn’t outdamage a quest boss’ heals. yeah.)
  • Farming is surprisingly rewarding. MATERIALS. Don’t recklessly chuck things and sort your inventory in your spare time. Nearly everything is used for something.
  • On that note, while I like the crafting system’s inclusiveness, I dislike how unorganized it is. It’s a huge pain to organize.
  • I honestly don’t like the UI, but it’s workable. Everything is very uh, big. I despise the chat system. You’ll find yourself getting censored for very vague things, and censors delete your entire message.
  • I don’t know much about pvp, but upcoming systems are interesting. I’m worried about lag.
  • Art + soundtrack is as gorgeous as you’d expect
  • Movement is a tad clunky but it’s fun to just move around. weird, I know, but I personally like it. jumping. ooh hoo
  • CUUUSTOMIZATION. BAD HAHA I love my character and all (muh white hair and chrono costume), but being unable to choose a face or even a skin tone has been a deal breaker for some of my friends. What is there is very cute and well drawn/modeled, though.

Bugs/Company:

  • buggy. To be expected, but buggy. Find myself rebooting quite a bit to fix camera, movement, UI, etc. issues.
  • lag is lag, but I have to give it to IMC for fixing it in about a week. It was absolutely terrible at the beginning, some of the weirdest lag issues I’ve ever seen. But that’s launch.
  • I started out liking IMC, now I dislike them after the founders pack fiasco. imo, they are trying though. I generally leave them alone when I don’t have major complaints, and it’s a lot more enjoyable that way.
  • Am excited for events in the future. I do hope to hear more about them.
  • I hope for more GM interaction in general. I wish GMs fit in with the players more, i.e. taking on pen names, sitting in town, micing about everyone’s experience. I guess that takes a while to settle.

I have a similar mindset in that games are fun, and shouldn’t cause needless agitation (though they should be challenging). I also think games are more or less for everyone, and ToS is a very everyone kind of game. As in any age range, nationality, etc.

I do think feedback to a company is very important though.

tl;dr: I’ve had fun.

I’m sure I played that before, but to lazy back then to do something good xD, I’ll check it again…

And u know? I played Ragnarok and I’m sure is the game I played more time (and sometimes I go back to “check” my characters in iRO) and I never feel ToS should give me something for that, I was expecting good things for this game and actually at this point I think is great (with all the problems, is just starting u know?) and is not thanks to ragnarok, ToS could have some things in common, but all games do, right?

Well bots can only bot for so long until there is nothing left to do or no economy for it anymore. The forums have changed in a major way since I looked at them the other day. I had to scroll down almost 75 pages before I saw a bad post about bots or anything bad.

People should ignore the bots and do what they can until it’s fixed. It will only affect your gameplay if you let it. People should be posting guides and helping newer players and just stay focused on that and having fun yourself.

The community needs to stick together and defeat the problem until it’s solved. There are ways to do that aside from just posting bad things on the forums which affects the games rating. In Redstone when times got hard the community banded together and kicked the problem right in the a**.

If you are able to adapt to the restrictions (which you most definitely are able to, judging by your attitude to them) then this game is amazing and you will be most certainly satisfied by your purchase. That’s it. There is actually nothing else to say.

The forums are currently absolute cancer. Please don’t use them as any indication of the quality of the game.

This game’s devs are amazing! You’re probably a bit skeptical from everyone’s opinion of them, but they communicate with us both on the forums and in game, and are very transparent when it comes to explaining reasons for their decisions.

That’s already an everyday thing for me in real life. So basically expect more of the same lol

Be the chameleon! Be one with the chameleon!

I finally decided to go Pyromancer rank 3 and Summoner rank 3

I don’t like to multi class if I don’t need to. I have been going through the games mobs and bosses pretty easily just soloing with Pyro rank 3. I am a level 121 right now so I’m not far from being able to summon my cards I’ve been collecting
