Oracle C3 is out and very interesting in its design/skills, however it seems that the basic Oracle skills (Resetting/Arcane Energy/Change/Clairvoyance/Counterspell/Forecast) didn’t really profit from going until C3, in contrast to other Classes, e.g. Kabbalist/Plague Doctor (mainly because of the lack of useful attributes).
Basically, except Prophecy and Death Sentence, none of the skills provided by Oracles really benefits from going up 1-2 Circles, except having higher base values. To change this, I suggest the following:
Change::
Currently the skill is way too unattractive to level up. Solutions:
- Change the skill from single target to multi-target. 1 charge should target 1 more enemy for every 3 skilllevels (only in direct proximity to the base target, like Notarikon/Hexing) This would allow for a maximum of 5 targets at maximum skilllevel or
- Add an attribute for Oracle C3 that increases the target count by 1 per attribute level, maximum attribute level 2-4; requires Change level 5 or 8
Resetting:
This skill is very nice but also has limited uses currently. Solutions:
-
Add an Attribute named “Dowsing” for Oracle C3. This attribute has a specific chance (1% per attribute level, 2 levels, or 1 level with 2%) to trigger Resetting when hitting an enemy with a Rod weapon type[afaik that’s currently possible for Clerics, but has no purpose(because rods have no patk value= weak attack), this would make it interesting] or
-
Add a specific Rod called “Dowsing Rod” (only useable by Oracles) with the ability to autocast Resetting on enemies at a certain chance when hitting them with it or
-
Add an attribute for Oracle C3 which increases the CD time of Resetting by 450 seconds when active that changes the effect of Resetting to reset the CD time of all your skills when used. That way you could also use the skill inside dungeons/missions since it would be useful for once in a while.
If you don’t want an active Resetting-the-CDtime-chance, how about adding an attribute that gives you a low chance (like 10%) when using Resetting to reset the CD time of all skills?
Counterspell
It’s nice that C1 has now the ability to ignore friendly magic, but C2/3 don’t have any benefits yet. Solution:
- Add an attribute for C2/C3 Oracles that , while active, uses up charges from Counterspell to actively “counter” magic that is thrown at the people standing inside(similar to how Safety Zone blocks attacks when hit while standing inside). The counter would basically be a reflect which bounces the spell back at the one who casted it, damaging him instead of the people inside the Counterspell area.
Arcane Energy
The skill is a nice buff, but it provides ± no use for the Oracle currently
Solution:
- Add an attribute (Oracle C2/C3, requires Arcan Energy lvl 7-10) that decreases SP recovery time for the Oracle (or maybe the whole party) while the skill is in effect (0,5 seconds per attribute level, up to a total of 5 seconds), similar to how Aukuras works. This would provide a good buff while also not being too overpowered, since SP recovery rate is not touched and thus different from char to char, making Paladin/Kabbalist Circles/Attributes not obsolete but providing an alternative and making Oracle a more viable supporter even without Paladin/Kabbalist Circles.
Death Sentence
This skill is still very situational, that’s why I suggest the following:
- Add an attribute to Twist of Fate that makes monsters affected with Twist of Fate also recieve the Death Sentence debuff at a certain rate, requiring lvl 5 or lvl 10 Death Sentence, at a certain chance (10-30%)
And (most importantly):
- the skill needs to hit AoE; it’s very unimpressive to have a 10-2,5 min CD skill that hits only one monster. Being a plague doctor that kills the enemy before Death Sentence applies to spread the effect [currently the only way to spread the Death Sentence debuff] simply defeats the whole purpose of the skill. Instead, there could be two options:
1st) add 0,5/1 additional target to Death Sentence per skill level. This makes it worthwhile to go as far as Oracle C2/C3 in the first place.
1 more target per skilllevel would be totally awesome and do the class the honor it badly deserves as a Rank 6 class, but if it’s too much to ask for, we could also live with 5/6 targets at lvl 10/12 [as it’s the aggro limit on normal maps]. Only one target is a total no go unless you plan to introduce monsters which can’t be killed otherwise that give like 100 times the exp of normal monsters and have awesome stats [like 99m HP and 999k pdef/mdef].
2nd) Add an attribute for additional targets to Death Sentence. This should require at least level 5 Death Sentence and add up to at least 6 targets in total.
- Change the debuff rank of Death Sentence to rank 10(or make the debuff rank scale with the skilllevel, making it more interesting to invest points here). At the current rank 1, it can be easily dispelled/prohibited by most skills/items that cure the lower rank debuffs. And no, Rank 3 is not enough, it should be unpreventable in any way besides getting saved by an Oracles divination…
To counter it, Prophecy should get an C2 attribute that prevents getting sentenced to death at a 1% chance per attribute level (max lvl 50, would provide another useful silver sink).
Just because monsters throw a low level Death Sentence at you doesn’t justify the low rank; you can simply kill the monster within the 60-40 seconds until you die to remove the debuff, and if you can cure it, there’s really no point in debuffing with it since it’s neither scary nor dangerous in any way.
Twist of Fate
- Remove the damage limit of 999999 damage
Item suggestions:
After Priest (Attila),Monk (Suncus Maul), Bokor (Krausas Mace) and Sadhu (forgot the weapons name) got their job-specific weapon, I think Oracle should recieve something similar.
I think the “Dowsing Rod” mentioned above would be the best solution (it’s useful and unique), but there could also be another specific weapon made for this, e.g. one that gives +2 to all skills like Attila and Suncus Maul do.
Job-specific Attribute:
Many classes have a class-specific attribute, some have weight limit increase or access to specific weapons/subweapons.
Oracle should get one that has to do with “Divination”, an interesting one would be to use the basic bone&turtle shell oracles from ancient China as a base for this. The attribute should allow the Oracle to craft Oracle Bones and/or Oracle shells which provide either positive or negative effects for the one who uses them. This would make all the bones and shells in the game more useful.
It would be a nice twist if the chances to get buffs would be higher in dire situations (low HP/SP,debuffed) and the chance to get debuffs be higher in good condition (many buffs/high HP/SP), making it a wagering like the original Greek Oracle divinations were (they were often misleading or ambigous, which could result in people risking and thus losing everything like Kroisos did).
Edit: after finding out how some skills work 1st hand, I removed some suggestions/fixed them up
