Tree of Savior Forum

I think this is the first actual f2p mmo

Usually there’s bad topics about ToS afloat, so i wanted to bring up something i feel is good. These are views from someone who is in NA, playing on Klaipeda. keep that in mind. I also never played Ragnarok Online (though i did try out 2 and hated it) , nor Crystal Saga (which my friend constantly tried to get me to play but that game just looks…ugh)

So yeah, one thing i’ve never actually seen with “Free to play” mmos is that its actually “free to play” and not “pay to win”. i did actually buy a founder pack , and only recently decided to really start playing this game and from what i see this game rewards you more for playing than it does punishing you for not being a casher. There -are- items on the cash shop sure that cannot be bought at all on the marketplace, but Tokens the most important item can be purchased on the marketplace at a relatively affordable price for f2players. and they (i think) give out TP rewards for guild wars in considerable amount, making it so you dont really need to worry about spending on anything aside from cosmetics. the only thing you might be missing out on is EXP Tomes, everything else is accessible in one way or another, and that includes Enchant scrolls. Granted , sure those theirselves -arent- tradeable, but the items you use them on can be. Even when it comes to upgrading items, that seems to be literally all RNG and none of that p2w stuff you’ll find in other mmos, that kinda require you to either china-farm to buy protection so the items dont break, or to just buy from the cash shop. So if nothing else i give props to Tree of Savior and the imcgames team for not requiring you to spend hundreds/thousands of your hard-earned cash in order to get by.

And i have faith the game will grow into something amazing. i can see growth realistically starting a year from now, as they have a lot of server issues to work around. and much, much class balancing , like the whole Swordsman debacle. and yes, i main a Swordsman, and i know exactly what they have to go through. But the views of this swordsman, feels as the game will in time grow and become something fun to all. And this game will be relevant for years to come! Not as the WoW killer, but as a different option.

Oh dont you worry. Once they release TP for sale, the same guys who cried for the TP will then start creating this game is P2W threads or why do you sell TP when game is broken threads.

They are waiting for it.

Thank you for bringing up a nice topic.
(Hopefully it stays that way, I’m pushing for it.)

I agree, we need more things to talk about that don’t burn down in flames. Hahaha.

I never really understood the complaints, but maybe at first glance to a new player you see all those token benefits then you think “OMG P2W!” . Course it’ll be easier to identify the totally fresh and new players who make topics such as these, because you’ll know they were actively looking for something to complain about rather than actually giving the game a whirl.

the market listing and especially tax restrictions are quite oppressive.
movespeed from token is otherwise unattainable.
+1 buff limit is very significant.
enchant scrolls on costume headgears give powerful stats.

its highly pay to win, especially at the start. if you somehow get enough zeny to buy a token and grind, without being crushed by tax, then you might start getting into a “f2p” area, with the upkeep of buying a token on the market now and then.

Well speaking again from someone in Klaipeda, i dont feel the price for the Token is heavily demanding. i mean by the time i hit lv 70 i already farmed up 500k, and i spent at least 200k on gear. and that only took me like 3-5 days to accomplish not even no-lifing it. i personalyl dont feel i need to go out of my way much to farm for silver, but at best i did farm a little to make goat horns.

either way, when “p2w” is used, it often means you are at a major disadvantage than someone who does put money into the game, which from a logical standpoint makes sense, at the same time it becomes so atrocious at times. Tokens are easily obtained with a mere few hours of work, or less than 1 if you get lucky and you dont even need to be max level. P2W can also refer to someone that might’ve taken you otherwise months to actually afford, or weeks, whereas a simple payment in the cash shop can eiminate that issue. ToS is not such a game.

Tokens are easy to get ingame (atleast currently).Tho I’m sure their price will increase as TP remains unbuyable.
As for any of those things you mention, none of them is remotely P2W.

Wrong game.

Also another thing , the soundtrack is one of the most amazing i’ve ever heard in an mmo. and it may very well rival the soundtracks of mmos that are FFXI or FFXIV. This is a free to play MMO, but that by no means makes it low budget. They had to spend quite a bit on the artwork, and the music. One of the tracks, Voladoras, actually reminds me quite out of something that came straight out of FFXIII-2.

i mean i guess music isnt a major factor for most but i think its nice when i dont have to find my own playlist or to scramble over what new music to find because the game already plays good music. this is probably the 3rd mmo i dont put on mute on a constant basis when i play it. and for good reason.

Getting a skill like (for example god damnit this applies to more than just two skills) Concentrate or Gung ho from attribute level 1 to 50 takes ~22 hours. A token drops this down to 3-5 minutes of clicking.

Token also makes you not lose everything you farmed if you decide to reroll by allowing you to trade your precious loot between characters of the same account.

I don’t even care about the rest of the Token bonuses. Those two are so absurdly significant that they outshine the rest (at least to me). Pay to win? Not sure, but I can’t see myself playing long if I can’t get my hands on a token asap.

You forgot to take into account that current market is saturated with tokens from founder packs. A new server that opened with F2P launch (Varena) has token prices at 1.5-2 mil each. In not-so-distant future prices on tokens on older servers will start to rise as well.

Yes, but tokens are not buyable right now, which increase prices especially on that newer server.

i feel like when you can buy TP that’ll solve the issue on that server. but there could be other elements i dont know about involving the server, so i dont really speak of any experience of it. i only play Klaipeda, and know not every server has the same situation thanks to goldspamming bots who tell you what the silver amount is worth to the dollar. and i do believe you named the worst server we have in terms of economy.
