I didnt go for C1 peltasta should i start over again? or just choose another class?

hello. I am still kinda new to the game…
currently I have a lvl 78 barbarian and class lvl 14 now.

I read from forum and several guides to see how I should progress.
I didnt realize it was so important to read guides until i found out that
apparently nobody would want a swordsman without C1 peltasta because of the taunt skill and dps swordsman is not useful late game.

I was planning to buy a skill reset potion but i realize its impossible to reset class in this game as well which means i can never get that must-have taunt skill from peltasta. Luckily i found out about this information when im lvl 78.

I want to know how do you guys deal with this problem?
What happens if a player makes a mistake in the build path? Do we have to start over again? apparently shinobi is only class that has got no problem. while swordsman late game cannot tank nor deal enough dmg.
Is it true that only several build paths are viable in the game?

I have played RO before and I feel that the situation is more complicated there. In RO all the skills can complement each other. while in ToS it seems that the rank advancements means a completely new play style. It seems that its very difficult to play late game if you didnt choose the ideal path. is that true…? I have read so many posts about people made wrong decisions etc. Is this part of the game design as well?

Please give me some advice… :3
I think i might go for cleric this time… :smiley: it seems to very fun.

What rank 2 did you choose? Sword 2?

Not taking pelt makes you lose a lot, but if you took highlander instead of swordsman C2 you can still hope to do decent damage for a swordsman class, not enough to compete with other dps classes, but it should be enough to support your solo adventures. You gotta be the one to start parties though instead of trying to join others.

You have 2 choices here:

Continue down the path of DPS swordsman, make friends who will let you party with them, ignore the elitists and meta scrubs and play to have fun.

Or reroll. Either another swordsman with taunt and a more tanky build or make a different class altogether.

If people just let meta scrubs dictate to us how we should be playing this game, I have a feeling that this game is going to devolve into the most boring, pointless lack of variety game ever.

I say we play what’s fun and if we feel strongly that something just isn’t balanced right either “too weak” or “too strong” point it out, see if other people agree and hope IMC fixes things.

So you can start parties, make friends who also feel the same way you do and you will be fine I think.

If you took highlander in rank 2 just go Sword>Highlander>Barba3>Doppel2, you might have a hard time finding a party but your aoe dps would be top-notch.

If you took sword 2 re-roll.

I am thinking of doing C2 barbarian now and becoming a doppelsoldner…
to be honest >< I really have no idea. I dont have much time to play cuz i have to work etc… and I really dont want to make regretful decisions T^T

You’re still fine.
Sword>HL>barb3>Dop 2
Sword>HL2>barb2>dop 2

are good dps dealers for swordsman tier.

thank the gods you didn’t get sword 2, gungho level 10 is a trap

thank you so much. yes i dislike the idea of following meta as well… if taunt is this important why didnt they give this skill to both peltasta and highlander…

I have another friend whos playing with me and we really hope to play this game for long. I dont just want to give up because of one mistake -v-

  • he is rank 2 highlander and rank 3 hoplite.
    any suggestions for what we should advance to if we are playing together?

You can pick pelt c1 on your rank 4, it maybe fine to leave highlander to c1 just to acquire access with the critical damage passive. If you’ve looked unto c3 skills of barbarian maybe ponder enough if it would be worth in getting the rank 3, either wise don’t pick pelt and have your way, just have fun with the game.

pick pelt c1 on rank 4 ?! ok i didnt know you can actually do that ? I have chosen highlander and I do pelt as well… ? confuseddd o_o

People take highlander in the barb doppel build for the passive critical attack when using 2h swords. Hoplite uses spears (and has more synergy actually with peltasta).

You can tell your friend to take pelt at rank 4 but his rank 2 pretty much doesn’t add anything reliable to his build. (Maybe he can go corsair idk)

you can, you’ll lose a bit of dps but at least you can get barb 2 with it, barb starts to shine at c2. Highlander shines on all circles but is great at c1 and c2.

You can take any class you want every time you rank up, this includes classes you didn’t pick previously and any new class available to the current rank.

I guess only one of us is needed to go for pelt at rank 4 right?
also another question. for my friend (hes hoplite)
how should he choose among squire/ fencer/dragoon? I read like squire is very useful for the team and he doesnt mind playing any roles.

He’s already hoplite, not a good idea to take fencer. Dragoon, Shinobi and Corsair c2 works well with hoplite c2

Squire is more of a support tank that people leave out to afk in towns once C3 to earn money

I was in the process of building a Sword 1 > Highlander 3 > Hoplite 2 > Dragoon and thoroughly enjoying myself. Became distracted with my Rogue and haven’t gotten my swordsman out of Rank 5 yet, but does pretty solid dps with HL3 + Hop1. Went Highlander 3 for Skull Swing’s Armor Break. Still using a 2H sword for now, but will will switch to 2H Spear at Dragoon and start taking advantage of a 100% uptime Finestra.

I am going to be honest here, reroll. I have a few 220+ characters, and I will tell you this right now, if you are not an archer/mage , you are a support. No one cares about your DPS as a Swordsman if you can’t taunt, because you won’t be holding the mobs in place. They would rather just replace you with a taunter/linker.

Here is what you need to remember, swordsman DPS is already cut down a solid 20% vs other classes, because of boss knockdowns. And on regular mobs, your AOE ability is s" decent - so/so ".

Most parties want the EXP bonus for having 4 different classes. Leaving 1 slot, that they want for DPS, and mages/archers will out dps you any day of the week. It sucks.

I am ALL for off meta builds, but there is a difference between " offmeta " and " notwanted nor needed " and non pelt swordies 100% fall into the later.

Note: if you go for option 1, it will be very hard for you to find parties and have access to end game content that requires a cohesive group. At that moment, please refer back to this thread and reread all the “fk meta, play your game, fk what other people think” posts
