How viable is the monk class?

My main problem with this class is that every skill before monk scales with INT whereas Monk skills scale with STR, so does this mean that either your going to suck early game or your going to suck late game? Or is there something I’m missing?

I’m a C3 krivis with str-con build and I have no problems in dealing with enemies and bosses. In fact, I find it easy and fun to play. My lv15 zaibas can weaken a cluster of enemies then finish them off with basic attack.

Then you can go find melkrow’s thread where the mow down enemies with his C3 dex priest

I went full dex build Cleric-Priest-Priest-Sadhu and I am about to be monk.
With roughly 140 dex and some con at lvl 111 only now starting to pump str.

Early game was a bit painful, once I got past the chapel I was perfectly fine, I could compete every swordsman at that point.
I’m falling off a bit right now, because some enemies take too long to kill, but when I focus on grinding smaller mobs. I’m still perfectly fine. I’m 5 job points away from monk. When I hit it I should have some str to get going and I’m already criting 3/4 hits.

If you’re really worried , get a pet and and level it up with swordsman and transfer it to cleric to help you trough the tough times.

Here I’ve just put up a short vid to show that I can easily fight monsters on my own level… and currently I’m actually in an area well above my level.

This build is very stable in terms of how much dps you put out. Unlike Kirvis which in some cases can be hit or miss. It relies on auto-attacks mostly. However Heal and Cure does some damage as well since Blessing affects those too.

A lot of enemies have weakness to holy demage and to blunt weapons.

I’ve been testing Priest C2 Cleric C2 with STR & INT. In my humble opinion this is my best build.

STR : to clear mobs. Easily clear mobs, I’ve been clearing higher level mobs with high STR.
INT : to finish off bosses. Since bosses has annoying minions, I decided to use CURE for extra auto damage, so I can round around in circle the boss waiting for my other skills to cooldown.

EQUIPMENT : since I’m focusing on STR & INT, I tend to focus on blunt weapon that has +Magic Attack so I could use for extra magic damage when I’m using CURE. However certain mobs are weak against “Slash”, so I also prepare myself with 1H Sword (currently Golden Falchion)

To back my opinion, since Cleric are INT base, & Monk are STR base, I think this could be a very balance build for a Battler/Self Healing Monk.

I will build STR and DEX and a bit of CON [more survive] for monk [if you focus on monk’s skill] bcoz is much on melee base. you can also put on INT for your previous skill if you wanna make it balancing or more. well, im played cleric 3 and then going to paladin, will be monk class if i can make it time for this month if im not buzy. but in early game i put all STR and DEX for my cleric. it was painful too when doing grinding and quest too unless you do with your party.i know INT base is build for cleric but, dont forget attribute too, is was helping much on my cleric do more dmg so i have no problem on my cleric until goin to paladin. about healing. you can upgrade from cleric’s attribute Heal enhance percentage to get more high heal % so, attribute is everything actually. and you can deal dmg too for your heal and dont forget Deprotected Zone is too, is OP when that skill in lv10 - 15.[For those who are cleric 3] I did tested all in fighting with boss when i do soloing. Cure also OP if you max lvl it + Attribute cure enhance for deal dmg. But still can’t be high dmg though. so deal with it hahahaha. [This is my humble opinion only what i tested and see how is work it when you will going to monk class, so dont worry about INT anymore so we can spend the stats point to STR, CON and DEX in future. ]

I have 2 monks a Cleric3/Sadhu/Monk Priest3/Monk and while Cleric 3 was a super pain in the ass to level using max cure/heal as my damage with pure int, I found priest 3 extremely easy just putting a ton into blessing attribute and going full str. It’s no highlander but it gets the job done and unlike pretty much every other class in the game I didn’t require any potions to prevent downtime.

I do agree with your sentiment. Most early skills are useless for monk but this isn’t a problem with just monk but the games design. They say they make circles more powerful as you go up so that you don’t need 30 hotkeys by the time your at circle 10.

This worried me. Is monk going to be useless once we have circles 7-10? I mean if you look at circles 1-3 compared to 3-6 currently, it’s already best to take the 1-3 that has the most utility, hence why I choose my Cleric3/Sadhu in the end since safteywall will never be weaker while my priests buffs are a flat number (besides asperio/monstrous). Priest buffs will be great all through this beta but once we have higher levels I doubt a few hundred damage buff will be great.

Cleric - Krivis3 here.

Been leveling through auto-attacks mainly. It’s like leveling an acolyte to monk in RO, but 10 times as tedious. Hahaha Still working my way up to Monkdom and I’m not even burnt out yet. eye twitching

EDIT:

I have 3 kinds of weapons for different monster weaknesses: Blunt, Pierce, Slash

Does the attribute increase actual heal? I thought it only increases heal damage?

Yeah but not much bcoz they following the healing scale to our HP char too. yeap they have both actually heal enhance damge and healing percentage, but the high lvl skill is better than increase the lvl attribute from heal percentage. like me i put heal in lv15 and my attribute heal : dmg in lv20 [20%] and Heal % is lv10. so i when i healing got some 890++ point per box and dmg to enemy [normal type enemy not demon type] mybe around in 700++ per box.

priest c3 for maxed blessing and sacrament, and either a dex or str build for a ■■■■ ton of damage. I went to STR at first, then switched to DEX because I liked the crits, and being able to dodge enemies. Right now Dex is pretty OP. It’s luk+dex+agi all built into 1 stat (and sometimes you can cast monstrous to boost Dex by +25 ~.~). Or priest c2- paladin 1 for other buffs.

Blessing gives an additional 170dmg (maxed, and maxed attributes) to each hit, and Sacrament gives you an extra hit each time you autoattack, which Blessing adds to as well, plus Holy damage. AWESOME! So far it’s been pretty easy to survive anywhere. Your party members will love you for the extra damage since those skills affect them too.

Apparently Blessing + Sacrament affects Monk skills too
