So I have a corsair. I’m planning on going fencer, my build is SwC1>HLC1>BarbC2>Cors>C1 then fencer. I know that even if I’m not using a full-tank type of stat build, I need to tank some times. So my question is can do that even without swashbuckling? Can I tank or atleast draw aggro effectively? Or should I throw this char, then make a new one with pelt?(don’t really wanna) Sorry for the noob question
Swashbuckling really won’t help you for tanking, just for luring (and increasing your HP). That being said you can sometimes you jolly roger as a way to lure mobs apparently. Since you have barb you’ll also have access to SOME warcry which also has the same effect. Last but not least, you can rely on a glitch until (if) they patch it that draws aggro about as well if not better than swashbuckling by accepting certain quests and just never completing them and abandoning/re accepting them whenever you need to lure
(also of course don’t forget about the provoke attribute)
There is only 1 true tank in this game, and his name is Cryomancer
You are swordman, you keep aggro and lure (if you have pelt). Don’t sit and eat any attack.
Now to the question:
- Yes you can keep boss aggro just fine with provoke attribute. Remember to jump and run around so you don’t get hit often
- You can “somewhat” lure mob with corsair flag
- Your damage is crap without corsair 2 and/or barb 3. You build is a little messy if you ask me.
A cryo running around the DG trying to gather mobs is uber slow. Swash is still the fastest and most efficient.
Tank =/= lure
Simple as that
Until IMC give Swordsman (probably on Provoke) higher aggro limit, then the best you can do is max out Provoke and go Cartar/Seism one group, repeat for a second group, then try to keep mob still for your party’s AoE.
Trying to pull a 3rd group will most likely result in the mob running over to your party members even if you did enough damage.
Tank =/= Controller(CC)
Also simple
To TANK efficiently you need Pelt.
But you can tank with other classes as long as you get provoke as some pointed out.
Just be careful in there, i mean, depending on your stats (mostly HP pool) you will be a dead tank because of the damage and Lv difference (missions).
As for tank i will explain here, since i see many tank wanna be trying to tank and being pathetic at dungeons/missions.
Tanking in this game is like any other game, i will use WoW here, in WoW a tank have to keep the aggro by causing damage and use taunting while avoiding the max he can the damage coming in his direction, that way things will go smoothly no only for the tank, but for the group, specially the healer since he can avoid getting too close to the tank and the boss while keeping an eye out for AoEs and any group member that didn’t avoid the said AoE because was casting a skill.
In ToS is the same ■■■■, Peltasta have offensive skills for a reason, same for other classes work as long as you have Provoke attribute, if you stop and stand there blocking you are just wasting time in holding the aggro and any DPS class will take your aggro resulting in a dance party dungeon/mission with everyone running around while you run are running after the monsters like a retard.
Never said tank = CC
I said cryomancer is the best tank, as it can soak up the most damage and protect the whole party from getting damaged
Well it does lure some mobs more effectively, and some other mobs may just ignore it.
Pretty much like Pokemon.
You need Pelt because otherwise there’s a maximum # of mobs that can aggro you at once. The rest will just go attack your party. Currently Swashbuckling isn’t just useful to lure mobs and force them to attack you, it’s the only skill that increases your maximum aggro count.
Thank you all very much for the well-detailed and really helpful answers. I will keep them in mind. Again thanks
Lol Wizs will never tank better than pelts.
cryos may try their best to lure everything but there’s a maximum aggre mob count… the rest will attack your team. Especially archer mobs, they will hit your party from afar and your team ends up running and dancing, looking for heal instead— making the dun longer.
Only pelts can soak up the most mobs in the game.
