How is aggro calculated?
Well, I’ll answer the question since nobody else has. The aggro system is a little different for ToS than for other games. Here is how it works:
Damage calculation. This is your normal aggro calculation. Who ever does the highest damage gets aggro.
-
1 damage = 1 enmity
-
Swordman’s trait “Provoke” changes this to 1 damage = 6 enmity
-
Healing tiles, from what I have noticed, does not give aggro. Unless monster steps on them and get hit.
-
Mass Heal gives aggro per amount healed
-
Debuff gives 1 aggro
Swash Buckler. This is a debuff. When enemy get this debuff, they will attack the person who cast it for the duration of the debuff.
-
Aggro cannot be taken off while debuff is active.
-
You can not refresh this debuff timer.
-
You can not overwrite the debuff. This means if one tank cast swash buckler, and the next person cast it, it will not overwrite.
-
Swash buckler does not work on monster that already has aggro to someone, this include boss. In other word, while you are fighting something that you already has aggro on, using swash buckler will result in nothing. This also means that if you aggro 5 monster, swash buckler will pull other monsters other than the 5 you already aggroed to you. This also means that you can not pull other people’s aggro to you using swash buckler.
-
Swash buckler is only used in the beginning of the fight. Using it during mid fight is useless.
Feint erases all aggro and makes monster de-aggro you.
Monsters, especially Bosses has random aggro mechanics. This is especially true when they are using certain projectile skills. But most of the time they just chase the person with the highest enmity.
I think that covers all of it. Feel free to add anything that I missed.
Hmmm. I guess I should reply with my own opinion too.
With this aggro system, any swordman with provoke can “tank.”
Actually, any job can tank if they have the gear and the damage. Swordman just makes it easier with “Provoke” trait.
During a boss fight, you can not just hold block forever as a swordman. You have to deal damage to sustain your aggro because you only get to use swash buckler once at the beginning of the fight.
From my own experience, sometimes Archers can tank better than swordman. Most boss’ mechanics are not hard to deal with.
I feel Peltasta swordman tank is more of a puller than an actually tank.
