How do you deal with magic?

We have both Physical and Magical resist, the first comes from shield and armor while the second from bracelets and pendants. Unless u go Cloth, then u get also MR.

But the point is that you can also build Dodge and Block to fight against physical damage, being the second specially effective, but you can do nothing about magic. Not dodge, not block. You just cant avoid bosses and player’s magic. Is that a good design? What do you do other than building health and tanking everything? Cause a lot of player’s magic is targeted and you cant dodge it by moving

For now, as a tank, i’m going full Cloth armor just to get magic resist from gear and the mastery (15% magic damage reduction), because i already can tank physical by blocking…

I know, that’s why i said i’m Cloth armor to get bonuses, and true, Spr too

The point is the unbalance. Physical damage can be blocked and dodged while magic (and basic attacks from mages if i’m right) cannot. Only reduced by resistances, the same as physical.

Yea, being able to block magic is normal. Dark souls, there is hard, shields to block magic are hard and rare, and even with those you wont reach 100% reduction, but at least 50% reduction while blocking. Why is so weird? It’s good to have an unblockable, undodgable type of damage? Just build health and resistance is an answer when a good part of that damage is instantly targeted, specially in pvp?

Its pretty much balance because magic damage also cant do critical damage.

Well, and cooldowns are a thing… so tank through all and kill the source while it has cooldowns! Anyway it could be nice to be able to block at least a 30% of the magic damage, so you are rewarded if you can raise the shield and block at the right second. A passive to, at least, increase magic defense while shield is up

PD: according to a calculator, at 50 Spr u get like 10 magic defense, so it’s worthless. Just full Cloth gear and the mastery. Even with that i can’t find how much u get by levelling the swordman cloth mastery past level 1

Peltast can block almost all physical attacks, and increase MR such bonus is another step towards immortality

Cloth Mastery, 3-piece bonus: +10 SP per Level
Cloth Mastery, 4-piece bonus: +0.5 Magic Defense per Level
Leather Mastery, 3-piece bonus: +1 Evasion per Level
Leather Mastery, 4-piece bonus: +0.5 Evasion per level
Plate Mastery, 3-piece bonus: +34 HP per Level
Plate Mastery, 4-piece bonus: +0.2 Stamina per Level

So, at lvl50, with cloth u get 500 mana (WOW) and 25 magic resistance… well, that’s a thing, indeed!

Take the Defence Against the Dark Arts class in Hogwarts.

When i get 1 lv of plate armor mastery (lv 15-16), i got 40~100hp…

I suppose magic resist takes into account all elements… so time to stack it!

This is a bit late but cloth mastery is a percent based Perk that means its not 25 magic resistance added but 25% to your existing stats and gear.

Oh my Odin… getting 0.2 Stamina per level is… useless… why not defense?
use heavy armor should take the stamina, not get them

Even though Magic can’t be “Dodged” by Evasion.
Can you still at least “Block” magic?

0.2 stamina is not useless. At the end is 10 stamina, what is nice, some classes use stamina, and even if no, you can run longer with swordman (and maybe with all classes if they allow everyone to use stamina to run while out of combat), and u already get a damn 1700 HP with plate mastery. Not defense, but hp… also the 15% physical damage reduction xD 1700HP is worth 20CON :smiley: yea, it’s weird… plate should give defense and leather some hp maybe

You cant block magic, at least with the “Block” stat (shields), i dont know if there’s any skill that can block magic

So, do you mean that… OVER the 15% magic resistance from the Cloth mastery, you can get a 25% extra at level 50? That means 40% magic reduction after the magic resistance is taken into account. Indead seems nice…

But after that… i dont know how defense works. Some people say that defenses are a flat reduction for the enemy damage, but that seems useless. Mages skills can deal over 1000 damage, not taking into account spell rotation, while magic defense… i currently had only 120 with a full magic resist set. It has to be some kind of % reduction, not flat. Swordies and archers can also deal HUGE damage with skills, defense cant be just a flat reduction…

unless they want mechanics where there are NO tanks… and is HARD to tank things in this game, so people die fast (its impossible to get high resistances) unless u have a cleric… so they are more used. Anyway, clerics are inmortal with those heals

Everything is balanced in my perspective.

Magic cant be blocked or miss but wont crit and do double the damage.

The game works like this. You are either a Phys DPS type, A tanky type, a magic daamage type. But you cant be all in one. You can be hybrid but that will make you mediocre on either your damage or tankyness. When i talk about being a tank, i mean pumping up con and getting higher hp. Heals are more effective if you have high hp. Meaning if the mages cant ■■■■ you up with everything they have and you live to get healed, they are pretty much screwed because of the cooldowns.
