How do we make World Bosses more interesting?

Before the introduction of the Monarch version of Demon Lord World Bosses (I’ll refer to them as World Bosses/WBs), they used to have something like ~260mil HP and were kinda fun to hunt (except for the Murmnobi meta). Since then, WBs were buffed to have billions HP and require players to have much better gear to survive against them and take a lot of time to be defeated, so unless a strong party gets the initiative, people tend to hesitate to participate in a WB hunt (unless it’s Marnox). Besides, many people say the rewards aren’t worth the time fighting a Demon Lord.
So how do we make WBs more interesting? I present a few suggestions below:

  • Create a new type of reward cube: this cube is given to all players that participate in the fight (unranked and ranked parties) and contains rare (purple) WB accessory recipes and materials for them (in an increased amount compared to lesser field bosses), raid stones and other valuable consumables (Awakening Stones, Multiply tokens, Challenge Mode reset vouchers, 1000 AP vouchers, etc.);

  • Create a stackable buff (tentative name: Demon Lord hunter) that’s applied for players in the parties that ranked #1-#5 in the boss fight; for the next world bosses, the player gains additional Demon Lord cubes based on the number of “Demon Lord hunter” stacks (up to 5 stacks), rewarding players that participate frequently in WB fights. All stacks are removed every Monday along with the ET reset;

  • Make World Bosses also drop Gold Guild Coins for players in the parties that ranked #1-#5 in the fight;

  • Create a permanent exchange shop and a system that rewards players for hunting WBs with Demon Lord hunting points (players in unranked parties get x points, the #5 party gets 2x points, the #4 gets 3x points, the #3 gets 5x points, the #2 gets 10x points and the #1 gets 15x points);

  • Upon killing a World Boss, a server wide buff is given to all players, increasing EXP and silver gains by 25% for 30 minutes; players that participated in the fight can talk to the Wings of Vaivora to double the buff effects.

At this point, I honestly just want lore. They are never gonna be able to make these fights interesting because of their design philosophy. It pretty much shows in how you want just rewards to be changed to make them interesting. I am intrigued with the server wide buff on a boss kill though.

Now about the lore, I know there are quests but these bosses are just reused. More often than not, these quest bosses are just “filler” bosses because we have to fight something and aren’t even relevant to the story they show up in.

I like this, I used to play GW2 and thats event was more fun and friendly with the lore. instead of just make spaw an npc on a map that supoust to be one of the top enemies without an aparently reason could be more interesting defend a village or assault a nest/lair

@Pokart every contents thats needs a high frequency to be succes at this moment of the game will be more frustrating than fun. I used to hunt WB the first months that was implemented, timing everyone like only few players do and from every 4 bosses one crashes and kill the spawm chain for the whole week them when they was updated the reward from hunt them was so poor to be care about waste 1-2 hrs triyin to kill them

Here is my World Boss rework suggestion. It makes it more event-based with everyone being able to participate in some form or another rather than limiting it to a select group of players only.

A : Remove the fcking redstone. Nobody wants to spend 2 hours for the fcking redstone.

I thougth that players who wanna make a WB accesories wants thats stones. :distinguished:

It would be awesome if they added new ways for ‘taking’ a world boss down. For example, if characters who were not max level or properly equipped could contribute during a boss match by gathering or supplying items that could grant a boss debuff or make the attacking characters stronger. Think along the lines of RTS games wherein a group of activities all contribute to one main goal. What if, for example, the World Boss attempted to spawn mob, but group players could attempt to stop his spawns from getting on the field, or, what if characters could erect barriers or other devices to slow Boss movement? Just some ideas off the top of my head. Also, like the original OP’s suggestion, the idea of giving everyone involved in some way a buff they could use after the fight seems great!

IMC: Thank you for your reply, so we decide to put talt in wb cube.

Improving the rewards is a way, currently it’s just too much time demanding if you don’t have a whale party with you. I’ve seen the channel crashing just before the boss is about to die and it’s infuriating to spend around two hours to kill a boss which is highly likely to not reward you with anything worthwhile.

At least until IMC figures a way to make the game and the channels more stable, they should avoid making fights that can last for so long. Now someone comes and brags about how they can kill a WB in 10 minutes with their whale party/guild. Yeah might be nice to be you, but the game $houldn’t be centered at the exception$.

I also still think the Demon Lord WBs should be balanced considering the amount of player’s on the server in general, a low pop server like fedimian should’nt be forced to do the same damage as a high pop server like kleipeda.
Well of course finding the right numbers here could be too difficult

the biggest hurdle to this is fixing the netcode, so a channel doesnt lag/crash when loads of people are performing actions in it.

if they somehow manage to do that then…

1st they need to tone down the enhancement system so you dont have +40 weapon players shitting all over everyone

remove the ranking system and the change the reward system to benefit everyone who participates, what we currently have promotes and encourages elitism

the thing is… i think they did this limited reward thing as a crutch for server stability, over actual game design lol, imagine 50+ people getting cubes in a single instance, with the current netcode that would blow the server up, which is probably why they only give out 25 rewards to the top 5 parties.

either way i dont think fixing this system is possible until they upgrade thier tech and improve the netcode.

First: remove all the +40 Weapons. Wait I dont know anyone with a +40 Weapon.

Second: remove the possibility to get a +40 Weapon. Wait you want to remove the only endgame of ToS?

Third: remove the ranking system on WB. So all those Idiots spend time dealing damage and I come at the end to get the same reward. Wait you want to destroy the last rare Item drop in ToS?

Fourth: Give us a magic button than on clicking give us everything that we need and want. Back in the 90’s aka Trainer/Cheating.

Fifth: Remove every p2w or how the new generation calls it p4convenience Item and compensate your loses while you remove 2 of the 3 “potatos” that you call “server”.

And even tho I have the same amount of proof as you do, I dont think the “netcode” is the reason for channel crashing.

Last but not least I apologize that I respond to your post with my critic to the community. But after the last 2 weeks reading all those crybabys Threads about removing Diamond anvils, fixing p2w, fixing rng, fixing velcoffer, fixing silver sinks and every other critical thread - I HAD TO POST HOW I FEEL

boss, need shields, evasive moves, inteligent bosses.

I think how the players (in Klaipeda) approach world bosses right now seems to be problematic. It feels almost predatory right now. A bunch of weak players struggle on the first phase for a long time until they reach the second phase. Then strong players show up to finish up the boss while denying the weak players rewards because the strong players just do that much damage. In fact, they do so much damage that the second, harder, phase can take half the time of the first phase.

You might say that it’s stupid for the weak players to start it in the first place, and I’d be tempted to agree with you. Spend well over an hour killing the boss only to have your rewards denied by people that spent a third of the time? It makes no sense to even try. However, it often feels like the strong players won’t start a world boss unless a bunch of weak players started it first. Usually these strong players are the savvy sort that know how to spend their time efficiently. Why waste time starting the boss themselves when someone can do half the work for them? The strong players save half an hour on the boss while the weak players spend 1.5 hours only to get absolutely nothing. That’s why it feels predatory to me. I think most players won’t ever bother with a world boss again after experiencing that.

I think something like a participation reward could be nice. Then you wouldn’t get nothing for spending the most time. Another idea might be having some sort of stacking bonus for being around longer.

At the end of the day I think that world bosses should be a competition. It should be a PvE competition to see who can DPS best. But right now that’s not what it is. It’s more of a test of players’ tolerance toward wasting time. Decreasing the overall HP might just be what we need. It’ll improve the reward-to-time-spent ratio because you’d be getting just as much but spending less time. But also, if the bosses die faster people might actual try from the start, rather than take advantage of other players.

I’m looking at you people that sit on the side and tell your guilds when to come in…

They should just make the boss identical to its 2nd form and get rid of the double phase nonsense.

I think world bosses… should be trying to destroy the world. Maybe everything else in the ToS world comes to a standstill, the class master npcs start talking about it, the fish go into hiding, monsters become enraged and more aggressive in most maps, world boss specific elite monsters spawned by that particular world boss start appearing. Maybe have these elites drop recipes and/or special ingredients like blessed gems, talt(lol), ominous spirit pieces, primus gear for the level map they’re in, sierra powder, anything you get from fishing. Maybe even have the cheaper mission versions of the boss also spawn in maps adjacent to the one the world boss is in.
Maybe have mini events going on in the map that deal with weakening the boss. The world boss spawns those Pillar Traps in far places around the map it’s in but like elite versions that have wide areas of negative effects, summon mobs that kill the regular mobs and attack players. Players have to go defeat them.
Have special quests activate when the world boss spawns. Beating these special elites and mini bosses will give you rewards, maybe have it as a percent like in dungeons but personal. You get cube fragments cubes after every 10% then at 100% you get a lesser cube. For players in the very dangerous map the world boss spawns in, they have a quest for destroying pillars, beating the summoned mobs and after every 30% you get a lesser cube, a world boss cube at 100%. The lesser cubes can be opened for rewards maybe the worst you can get is 15 blessed shards. Or the lesser cubes can instead be combined into a world boss cube. Where these world boss cubes have the chance to give useful things like legendary cards etc. or fragments of that particular boss… I think it would be cool if every world boss had a different gear set specific to it. Like a Rexipher has a cloth set, Blut a plate set, Marnox a leather set etc. All the sets differ from each other with the set effects and are basically legendary gear. Maybe the full set gives use of 1 of the boss’ skills but a weaker version lol.
Instead of world bosses being a competition to see who gets there first, who does the most damage, who gets the last hit etc., I think it should be more like the whole world(server) working together to take down these threats to the whole way of life/ecosystem.
