How different is TOS from the last MMO you 'mained'?

TOS is a very unique type of MMO, in terms of how it looks and plays so this is something I thought could be interesting to know.

I personally never played Ragnarok past level 10, so I don’t have the same kind of upbringing as many others.

The last MMO I played as my main game was Phantasy Star Online 2. I live in Japan so it’s one of the most popular options for gaming here. Very different game, obviously. I like that I can still effectively use a controller playing TOS, it really helps for the couch gamer in me.

How about all of you?

Does Elsword count?
Good game that became sht. Hao to Kill a Game, a book written by KoG

One game I really enjoyed when I was still a Beggar was DotA1 and LoL. Now, I got a circle advancement to Thief, bought pack 3, playing my first P2W game.

Wait, those games aren’t MMO.

Last MMO i played was Archeage… yes i know.
Tho i only played that game because the music system it had, the bard inside me couldn’t resist and i only lasted like 2 months into that game so i didn’t play too much PVE/PVP.

FFXIV is more like traditional western MMO whereas this is like traditional Korean MMO, so very different but ive played games like RO,MS,PT, etc

blade and soul had really attractive 3d models for all the characters (gon’s dance ) Cosmetics are really a thing for me so I’d probably go back to bns when this game goes way too p2win or something.

BnS’s pvp was imbalanced but instead of pvp being impossible on one class it just took more work to win with certain classes, where as for this game I know it’s going to be plain impossible for some classes to beat others because of the game’s mechanics.

There’s only two MMOs that I’ve played in my life for around 2 years.

  1. Nexia (Indonesian port of NexusTK) (1999-2002)
  2. iRO beta (2002-2004)
    So… yeah…
I did play GW2 for a few months and Mabinogi for just over a year now and counting (between 7th and 8th anniv)
As you can see. Those aren’t much diff.

The last MMO I played and took seriously was a game called Ace Online. The game is also pretty unique where you pilot aircrafts in open world PvP. Enjoyable to an extent if you like dogfighting games. The game was really P2W though. Never really played any MMOs seriously after that until ToS.

I don’t remember when I played #1 and #3

  1. Dragon Nest SEA (Had to stop after 2-3 years of playing, because my wallet needed a break :joy:)
  2. When I still didn’t know of steam maybe back in 2009-2013 or so I played AQWorlds :joy: I really enjoyed it even for a browser game, because they had some very good artists for their armors and other stuff.
  3. I really liked C21 it was a game made by the developers of Cosmic Break.
I liked C21 more even though the game was dying (maybe because of Cosmic Break) the remaining players there made one last final guild until the game shutdown. All of us had one mech we all had a like which could transform into a wolf and had really good overall stats and whenever we raided some sort of dungeon we used is, making us look like a pack of wolves. Those few months of memories makes me cry :sob:

I haven’t took an MMO seriously since FlyFF. Played it for about 7 years and after that I haven’t felt the same about any MMO besides ToS. I hope this game last long so I can build memories.

Wow, never imagined seeing Ace Online mentioned here. Truly a rare beast. I even played its previous iteration, Space Cowboy way, way back in the day. Some of the most competitive, grueling, dramatic PvP I’ve ever witnessed.

I was on RO for a number of years off and on since I was a kid. I adore that game, and hope ToS lives up to it’s spiritual predecessor in the end. I wouldn’t say it’s doing a bad job now.

The last one I really played though was Wakfu. It’s very different from ToS. The battle mechanics are turn based, and quite difficult at high levels, but it becomes repetitive after a while. There are not any class changes, you just level up the same skills continuously. It’s 2D, but more in a anime-ish way in general, not just the sprites. It had Haven Worlds, which were huge guild spaces to plant monsters, level professions, etc. That’s another thing, professions were huge, and it tied into a ecosystem (the first thing that drew me to the game) that you helped maintain or destroy. Really fun game, but nada like ToS really.

The most recent one was FFXIV for me.

I actually enjoyed the game A LOT months before the reborn happened because they actually fixed a lot of the issues and the game was challenging and satisfying.

However soon after the reborn I lost interest. It became another world of warcraft imo, in terms of gameplay, which I’m already tired of.

Elsword counts. Shame, man. I’ve started waaay back when V/Belder was a new town in Korea. I’ve literally seen the decline in quality events and updates. Now it’s a game about spoonfeeding and P2W enhancements.

As for me, I guess the last real MMO I played were LaTale and DFO? Honestly this game is a mix between the two of them, which I’m dandy with. Latale itself has changed since I first started playing and a lot of the friends I had eventually moved on, so did I. DFO however I still play on occasion, controls concise and intuitive but really only play it when I feel really blood thirsty.

I feel you, started playing when the EU server came out, guess the company is just thinking about money, could have been an awesome game, with some balance and less P2W.
