⏳ [POLL] Shortest Road to 280 --- Use remaining exp cards to reach lv.237? Or only after reaching lv.237?

Hey everyone -

I’m currently a lv.205 sword3 cata3 (might go dragoon) as of this posting with enough exp cards to reach lv.225.

Referring to the leveling map http://i.imgur.com/4AXgpAA.jpg which I use, I still have about 8-10 maps to explore, quest and make kill counts.

I’ve read nearly on every leveling guide (and have been advised) to join alemeth grinds once I reach 210 so I figured it might be possible to hold off on using the exp cards yet until I’m able to shoot myself up to 237 where there is an exp reset.

I’ve also been told that it’ll be hard for me to get into grind parties for evac (228-248) and later levels which has prompted me to reconsider my decision to use the cards to reach 237. Using the cards after I reach 237 might give me a significant boost in terms of level.

TLDR Do I reach 280 faster if I used exp cards to reach 237 or only after reaching 237?

So, in the hopes of reaching 280 as soon as I possibly can, which of the following options would make my leveling life easier overall?

  • Use exp cards to reach 237 for exp reset
  • Use exp cards ONLY after reaching 237

ps. Please stop with the “you won’t get invited to parties” comments. I’ve already considered that before even starting with this character. I am looking at different options to get around that issue (join a guild with people who’ll want me to grind with them; spam missions with resets and religiously do dailies; solo grind if I can; etc.).

pps. I’d also love to hear it specifically from players with lv.280 sw3 catagoons based on their experience.

EDIT: Some tips from the comments:

Do you have some friends to build a fixed team for Saalus Convent?

With the Transcendence update coming soon, Saalus Convent will give exp and since it scales with level, I’d just try to get to level 240 as soon as possible.
Then there’s the 240 dungeon which you’ll have to run if you’re interested in Virtov items.

TL;DR: Use the cards to get to level 240.

Thanks for your input.

I unfortunately no longer have friends playing this game. They’ve quit like me months ago due to the issues. I’ve been the only one who decided to come back after the kTOS patch merge. Everyone here’s crazy about Pokemon Go already.

My current guild do have a number of active members with similar levels like me. The problem is we rarely get to be online at the same time, and if we did, they’ve likely already done their dungeon runs.

Is queuing not advisable for 240 dungeons? Do people really hate non-pelt swordsman in their parties? I’ve tanked better than most pelts in my character’s lifetime both in dungeons and missions.

Thanks man. Different strokes I guess.

I was aiming to get to 280 ASAP (which probably will still take me months) to be ready for R8 when it’s implemented.

Outside of leveling, I do enjoy the game better than before, TBL being the biggest factor.

I think queuing occurs in 240 dungeon but not as often as other dungeons. In my opinion it shouldn’t really matter, but if you are struggling to find a party then making your own party helps!

in my experience, catas can make okay swordsman for pulling enemies, just extra work. I don’t think people in grind parties can be picky seeing our current population either lol

i have more then 1 char 280 and a few 200s and i have grinded many times with swords without pelta,u wont get parties` is a bullshiet of low lvl pseudo pros.

from 210 up to 228 grind at Alemeth forest
from 228 up to 233 grind at EVAC
pop ur cards up to 236
keep grinding at evac until 248
pop ur cards until 252
from 252 up to 264-266 grind at STORAGE
264 start grinding at MAVEN ABBEY

once the exp card calculator shows that you have enought cards to get 280 , pop all ur cards.

i have done this a few times and got 280 in less than 2 months

Would recommend saving your cards to jump from 245 to 252 during which there are no good grinding maps.

Holy ■■■■, that’s fast. So it’s not advisable to use all cards at hand at once to reach a certain level?

Thanks for your input by the way!

Sorry, I slightly misread your question.

I thought you wanted to know how to use your current cards the best…
Yes, there are people who won’t take swordsman without pelt, sadly.

If you really want to reach 280 as fast as you can, you need a grind team and do Siaulai missions whenever nobody’s around to grind.
Also, it actually doesn’t take as long as you might think.

If I were you, I wouldn’t try to get to 280, though.

First of all, you don’t need to be 280 to change to R8, you’ll reach job 15 around 277, iirc.

So going for max level right now would just mean you’d waste the exp you’d get from doing Saalus or other things around your level.

The Grynas Torch event(On Grynas Hills map, level 253) is another good spot to visit every full hour (50% chance to spawn).
Gives decent exp, just takes 10 minutes and you have a chance to obtain Grynas items.

EVAC is a 238 (that means grinding from 228 up to 248) map and u can easily grind there ( 1lvl / hour) even up to 252, but is easily to pop ur cards from 248 to 252, lol

nop, is better to save then to get the max lvl, some guys save cards to get up to 286 when the level cap gets rised, but the way i told u is pretty much the fastest way.

I’m personally not a big fan of Evac due to the horrible job exp, so I would prefer to get out of there as soon as the exp penalty starts hitting hard.

not gonna choose any of those, my suggestion is if you want to advance to dragoon already, you may do so as there is no quest that would give you free stat anymore, i say use some of you’re exp cards to reach lvl 15 class and start grinding from there, that’s what i did on my two shinobis, the important thing is you get to change you’re class and get stronger skills and also you’ll keep wanting to grind for the other skills lolol

I see no problem getting to R7 without using exp cards.

It’s after turning R7, terribly slowing down at specific level ranges as others have mentioned here, and possibly regretting why I popped those cards too early.

hmm if that’s the case then keep the cards and just grind all the way farm silvers and buy gears and dont forget to invest on you’re skill enhancements
remember that once you use those cards and get to higher levels you lose the exp you could get from the lower maps where you could grind and farm a good amount of silver at the same time… if you’re aim is 237 you’ll later on quest on ibre plateau which is full of homing magic mobs plus the effin cronewt has sleep… curse that map kept me near the bonfire for sometime lol…

Thanks for the advice. It is indeed wiser to grind at lower levels while they’re still easier to kill and where progress is still fast than use cards to skip them.

As for the cronewts, I’ve heard horrible stories about them. XD Could be worse for me.

sure thing, tho i maybe wrong for some people as this would be a very slow process to reach the cap, but look at those people who hastily reached the lvl cap, look at they’re gears most of them are undergeared while some doesnt even have any upgrades on their skills and or gears this is how them swordsmen feel underpowered , yes the class balance is still an issue but if you’ll gear up you’re sword and do skill and gear enhancements you won’t feel very underpowered and once we get that balance that we deserve every sword would feel alot stronger :imp:
