Hoplite PvP : what's wrong?

Hello everybody,

I just need a quick advise from high lvl characters doing PvP : I’m actually hoplite lvl 65 and I’m on going to make this character for mainly PvP purpose.

Few minutes ago a Quarrel Shooter (same lvl) just duel me and I have quickly noticed how unfair this fight was.

To give you the best view as possible, below some informations :

Me : Hoplite with assegai, 4 pcs plate armor, 1:2:1:2 STR:CON:SPR:DEX, finestra lvl5, gung ho and concentrate attribute both lvl 16 (+30 and +40 bonus dmg), full peltasta attributs lvl max

Opponent : Quarrel Shooter, 4 pcs leather armor (mark), one cross bow and one shield

First I noticed the hard task it was to be able to reach my opponent (let’s name her Lisa), but after she auto attack me with around 100 damages per hit, what supprise to see my 75 damages with +50% message :o , also every time I land an umbo blow skill, even at the range the skill never hit (no dodge, just no hit), and my bash skill was most of the time dodged or when hit, Lisa was just moved back for 0.1 meter and without any other effect (not grounded, nor interrupted).
And the bonus : Lisa some time stuned me for 5 seconds !
I also noticed I only block when in guard mode (with this time a 90% ratio).

I think you understood how frustrating it was, after lvl up 3 times, thanks to my xp cards, and going to full block and pot, Lisa surrender.

So … that lead me to the big question : is hoplite not able to shine in PvP ? (I was looking for c3 hoplite and c1 dople + c2 dople or c1 dragoon, not the cata path)

I mean, is something like 1:1:4 STR:CON:DEX the only way to hit vs other class ? Should I forgot cc skills because they are not working vs other class ? And what about the block mechanic ? (only working with c button pressed ?)

I was really thinking High CON (and finestra) + High DEX will allow me to have enough block to mitigate damages and be able to hit most of the time (not all the time) dex + leather armor characters, but this duel show me that idea will not works.

If you ask me… Hoplite isn’t a PvP class especially against ranged characters…

it’s not relevant to your question but i don’t know if you should go doppel2 after hoplite since doppel 2 skills require 2h swords

Go for CATA C3 instead since your HOPLITE C1

Yep I know, If I pick dople c2 it will be just in order to have +100% attack and 0 def all the time.

My idea was to fight as an hoplite, mean mitigate damages via hp pool + passive block in order to be able to reach my target, then land cc and in case of succes use my best damages skills.

But as I said previously, my fight show me the passive block is not working as expected, cc are not working (bash) for unknow reason (nothing found about it on forum) or not able to hit (umbo blow was not dodged, just nothing happened with it), and high dex is not enough to hit.

Dont jump into another build. It might be some bug.

archers will pin you down for 16 seconds wth full draw and then can just autoattack you to death while you stand there doing nothing.

The PvP system in this game needs a major overhaul anyways so you might as well play what you want

Cata and Corsair is the only class what will be useful in PVP if PVP is your main aim. The rest of us…we just get killed so hard before even going near :frowning:

Not if you block it. And have high con.

The only good swordsmen classes in pvp are high con tank classes with rod/pelt for cc, or cataphract because of the moment speed, and corsair for the iron hook. You should go cata or corsair with hoplite 2 as you can longstride after iron hook, or rely on finestra with Cataphract.

they just pin you down again. or use another disable, i.e if they went hunter.

Yup. 30 second stun/disable with Coursing.

pain barrier? does it not stop staggering/knockback and knockdown? idk if it works the same for pvp but I always use pain barrier for monsters that constantly interrupt things like combos and such. I didn’t get bash just so I could have those extra 4 seconds with it.
also like mentioned corsair have iron hook but long stride unless you are using spear and shield or swap to a shield you actually cant use long stride with a dagger. the other alternative would be to knee haul them in which can bleed them and bring them to you. if you do go corsair id recommend going a 2nd rank of it for hexen dropper which is a pretty nice move. maybe after knee haul / long stride combo dust devil which with the animation i feel immobilizes long enough for you to start up another skill like hexen or stabbing

I swear man, most people can’t use their freaking brain. They just wanna spam their highest damaging skill and complain if that doesn’t work.

pain barrier doesnt stop pindown/disable. only knockback/down.

I wish it grants CC immunity PLEASE @Staff_Julie

Just go plague doctor.

I’m sure my level 40 Hunter can beat your hoplite. Lol.
