Hoplite PvE/PvP Burst dps/offtank?

Hi all,
i haven’t gotten to play in the betas or gotten to tough the game at all yet but i am really looking forward to this and expect ToS to fulfil my MMO needs for the foreseeable future.

Given this anticipation i think i’ve done more than my fair share of theory crafting and believe i’ve come up with the ideal class for me. In prior games i normaly go for a tanky melee class that can survive well when played well but that can also drop huge bursts of damage to secure a quick kill (in both pve and pvp (i love to pvp/duel))

Enough rambling! here’s the build!
(not sure i like this version of the simulator it has a few bugs)

My thoughts are that it works like this…

Bash- a early dmg skill with chance of knock down(CC FTW!)
Gung Ho- 100% uptime dmg buff with whta looks to be very slight negative effect?
Pain Barrier- CC immune… FTW!?!

Stabing- Seemed like a bread and butter kind of skill
Pierce- High dmg pve skill with possible bleeds? i think thats win?
Finestra- More buttery bread? looks like it would up tankyness and dps so win?(the buzz off and die button)
Long stride- gap closer and a tiny bit of aoe, nuff said.

Punish- Combo skill with morschlag and bash, possible group synergy?
Morschlag- Knock Down?? and 100% crit chance vs cloth as an option
Deeds of valour- Honestly torn between this and cyclone, took it for the burst potential of attack speed with hoped that shield+ block will keep me alive

As for weapons I will Most likely stick to Spear/Shield with like 2h Sword for easy mobs/boredom
Stats- im thinking high dex till i get 40~ % crit chance with str and con being somewhat equal (debending on gear stats and the like.

Please let me know what you think! sorry for the massive wall of text feel free to complain about it i promise i real all complaints…

looking forward to any constructive advice and opinions and greatly appreciate them

Thanks!

Jaylin

You can’t use 2h sword if you’re not highlander or barbarian.
It’s require to learn attribute to equip 2h sword.

(not sure if doppel have attribute for equip 2h sword or not but KR player said it don’t have)

PS: Gung Ho giving flat fix damage so you might not like it at high level.

he said dopelsolner, so yeah, it can equip 2h sword

I guess not since not see use 2h sword in attribute list except in Barbarian and Highlander job.
Which is the same reply from KR player when I asking about doppel have 2h sword attribute or not.

Just like what @Tsuyucchi said, you can’t use 2H-Sword if you’re not getting Highlander or Barbarian in your build.

In my opinion, if you’re going C3 on any classes, at least pick up all of their skills. Just put 1 point on the your-not-so-preferable skills or put minimal points on them to unlock their active attributes (The one that can be turned on and off, if they have one that is).

I also wanted to build a Hoplite and here’s my build: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/m4c6ll98eh/

As you can see, I’ll pick Peltasta so I can get Block attribute for manual blocking and Shield Mastery attribute for the additional 25% block stat when maxed. Finestra will be my main self-buff, both for dealing damage and defending myself. Since Finestra reduce evasion but increase blocking, I’ll focus more on CON rather than DEX in my stat distribution. You can pick whatever class for rank 6, but in the current class advancement system, I’ll go for Rodelero for even more CC.

Not so sure about my Hoplite build DPS capabilities, but I’m sure I can be the last man standing among other swordsman build, especially if I’m against wizards and magic-based clerics like Krivis, Sadhu, or Druid.

It can be a waste to put 1points in the skills you won’t use 'cause you don’t like them.
You would lose too much than what you gain (except for certain skills when it can control, or have an atributes that can make a control). But for Spear Throw lvl 1 for example : you won’t use it. You throw your real spear on the floor while doing it and you have to pick it up in a “given time”. If you’re being controled or die just after throwing it you can lose so much right now (heard some guy lost a 400K spear on a cbt because of that skill xD)

For synchro thrusting i’m not sure yet, if it’s a skill that can block having it level 1 could be usefull since it’s not really a great skill right now for damages.
For swordsman class : having thrust lvl 1 can be a good idea if you have a skill that can stun (if i remember correctly bash can but not sure) and Pain barrier level 1 is a must have ^^

So anyway : taking some skills only to lvl 1 can be worth but not all of them are worth it that’s all! ^^

Honestly, what I had in my mind when making that build is to go and get some cheap spears and put them into the quick-swap weapon slot. So I have my “main” spear which I mainly use and another “cheap” spear for Spear Throw. That way, I won’t lose much if I died or disabled by some sort of CC and not being able to get my cheap spear if I actually use Spear Throw to throw my cheap spear.

Of course accidents happen, but I’ll train to quick-swap to minimalize the chance of me throwing my main spear instead of my cheap one.

Again, as I said in my earlier post, it’s just my opinion, and so is this post. All of this preparation just to “Pin” or “Bound” enemies in place for 7 seconds with 60% probabililty? In my opinion, it’s really worthy for me.

Well that can be a good idea. But i can’t be sure it’s worth anyway! The only thing i can say : worth trying on betas to know if it can be good! But with the “cheap spears” your skill will lose more dps again since the attack of the weapons won’t be as good as your real one that could cost millions! ^^

You should really consider taking 1 rank on Peltasta.

Swordsman >Peltasta > Hoplite > Hoplite > Hoplite > Doppelsoeldner
Would make you a LOT more durable.

I had a hoplite c3 in kcbt 3, you can throw a spear on top of your self for a quick aoe damage and pick it up without moving. Damage was okay at lv7, did about same damage as first hit on lv17 pierce.

how does the peltasa “press c to guard” attribute work? is it 100% guaranteed to block? also is there a skill builder that lets you choose attributes as part of the builder?

Peltasta Block attribute works by boosting both your physical defense and block stat when you press C to guard with shield equipped. Your physical defense will increase for about 1.5 times while your block stat will increase for about 6 times. (Not really definite, but they’re close to 1.5 times for physical defense and 6 times for block stat. It might be a bit lower, but also can be a bit higher than that, albeit not too much.)

Just like critical chance where it depends both on your critcal chance and your enemy’s critcal resistance, block also have the same mechanic. To successfully block attacks, it depends on your block, your physical defense, your enemy’s block penetration, and your enemy’s physical attack.

It is not known if we can block magic attacks or not, it’s not tested yet. However, I personally think we won’t be able to block nor evade magic attacks, as magic attacks can’t miss, but also can’t crit either.

For now, ToS Base skill simulator is the best we have.

Here, someone have tested it before in iCBT 1 in other thread: https://forum.treeofsavior.com/t/swordsman-c1-peltasta-c2-lv54-experience-feedback/35720

Hopefully this will answer all your questions!

Pain Barrier- CC immune… FTW!?!
[/quote]Can be slowed, frozen and (i think) knocked up.

read the attribut pulease

highlander FTW…lol…wagon wheel
cataphract FTW…lol…just impale them

highlanders cross cut’s bleeding status really packs a punch. Im saying it from my own pvp experience.

Yep. And not immune to stun too.
