Hop C3 - When change Geras Spear?

Hi guys i need some help, the core of my class is the hoplite c3 with throw spear, i’m using Geras Spear to get +50% of damage and I’m thinking on put some gems on him but i don’t know if it worth.

  1. My build is full dex so i believe my damage comes barely all from the spear, it’s right? So if it’s true I need only get a spear at last 50% stronger then Geras to get the same damage?

  2. A yellow gem gives crit atk after the calculation right? so it don’t get the 50% bonus? and if i put a red one it will get the 50%?

red gem is better for that exact reason, the 50% increase (which is really 150% because of the 3 hit count)
geras spear for spear throw, catapike for everything else.
that’s how i built my hop 3.
For the catapike i did 1 red 2 yellow gems, since it is used for other skills like dragoon skills.

Geras Spear is a normal damage modifier, it doesn’t modify your attack. It modifies total damage at the end of the calculation, including elemental attack and crit attack.

Crit attack isn’t added after the calculation, that’s a misconception. It’s added after the 1.5x multiplier from crit, which is near the start of the calculation. The only modifier that applies before crit is very rare and basically only matters for Split Arrow. If you’re full DEX you want yellow gems unless you’re a Scout.

You can always keep Geras Spear in your weapon swap slot and switch to it when you want to spam Spear Throw, and switch back when you use other skills.
