Hidden Muay Thai Classes? FOR REAL? [video inside]

That’s the interesting part of it. Wizards in fantasy literature aren’t always described as ranged spellcasters. Very often, resorting to these big spells which need chanting and preparation (thus the safe distance) takes a huge toll and so wizards actually have to defend themselves by melee fighting - be it with staves or swords - while imbuing them with simple spells to amplify their effectiveness given their usual lack of physical prowess.

I actually find it rather weird ToS hasn’t made use of a close range wizard class so far, given their interest in using hystorical/mythical/fantasy literature as basis for classes. I mean the one they did, the druid, is a cleric so it doesn’t don’t count…

Tos is also the only game i know where the wizard has to go in melee range to use its fireballs :stuck_out_tongue:

That’s a surprinsingly weird choice, still looking forward to it being gone in the supposedely “soon to arrive” wizard rework.

cleric use mace… and most of its skill is for support.

a melee wizard is not only spellknight but can also become “reaper”, or battle mage, or like korean “jeon woo chi” or “magic lancer”

  • reaper turn staff into schyte like dual gun stance or muaythai stance
  • battlemage can USE DUAL HAND MACE, the secondary key will become MELEE attack
  • jeon still use staff, but have skill that using staff as melee weapon
  • magic lancer can use SPEAR, the special of this thing is CONVERT Physical attack from weapon to magic attack

well, its just concept anyway…

Maybe mimic could fulfill that role and mimic the skills from other class trees. Then you could have your fighting wizard or any other type of mix. It would seem doubtful though, since that would be to good to be true.

If this happened, it would make mimic extremely flexible with many builds if not a sense of op - I guess. They could make some restrictions on the skills that can be mimicked and you could only pick 3 skills to mimic as well. Not sure if we could save these new skills in a book or something too. If they really implement a mimic they could have a way to just save the skill from one of the trees and change it later…or make it permanent but you have to pick carefully.

As for mimicking, I would totally mimic that new hidden class called Muay Thai. I really do like hand to hand combat. Add the enchants to the hits then you got yourself an elemental fighter. I’m also thinking of the thaumaturge and their arm buffs! Them big hands punching would be really funny.

i think you described exactly what they were trying to pull off with rune caster. long cast times, a self enchantment to deal melee damage.

i mean i’d personally love to see a more hand to hand or hard material mage as well, but it’s not really unfair. Wizard probably has the most interesting and varied class concepts out of the entire game imo. I wasn’t referring to the range capabilites of spellcasters more than I was nitpicking at the usage of the word “melee” which lmao is more or less in video games generally the polar opposite of magic. If the way to pull this off (making a magic…melee combat class) is by the usage of enchantments on weapons, that’s essentially already in the game, just not consolidated into a single class. unless enchanter counts.

Anyways, the OP did throw out a neat suggestion, so there’s no problem with any of it. Like I said, a spellsword or something like LK from DN would be really fun, ooor like blade dancer from latale! These actually tend to be my favorite classes conceptually. got me a borderline fetish for magic and swords combined.

I’m happy they are trying to give swordies more variance in their gameplay. That was more or less my issue with building swordsmen despite far preferring swords to sorcery in general.
