Help with swordie build. Tank-ish DPS (PVE)

Hello, saviors!

I’m here looking for your advice. Since no matter how much research I do, chances are that I’ll ■■■■ up at some point, specially with so many feedback spread around. I have rerolled my previous class since it didn’t get Pelt C1 but Sword C2 instead, so I felt pretty useless in dungeons and I know I was already doomed for end-game content. I’m currently at level 115, following this custom-ish build:

-Stat ratio: DEX 6 STR 2 CON 1 SPR 1
-Swapping between both leather/plate sets.
-Swapping 2 sets: Sword+Dagger / Sword+Shield. When I get Fencer, I’ll replace Sword with Rapier, obviously.
-The reason I set Helm’s Chopper on 1 it’s because I only care about its stun effect for a maxed cleave effect.
-I feel seism compensates a lot the loss of Helm’s Chopper.
-War Cry for decreased defenses on enemies plus increased attack power from attributes.
-Frenzy because more damage, specially on bosses. Half of the effect on big pulls. No negative side effects.

SO FAR SO GOOD. It’s been working. Except for magic damage, it tends to #rekt me. However, the reason I wanted to roll on Barb C3 it’s because my bet is on the Korean Barb’s buffs:

7/04/2016 balance changes

  1. Barbarian
  • War Cry: Some Currnet Problem where you can remove the de-buff by right clicking it. Cooldown has been decreased.
  • Cleave: Cooldown has been decreased. Overheat has been changed to 3 charges.
  • Helm Chopper: Cooldown has been decreased, the stun chance has also been increased.
  • Seism: Cooldown has been decreased, the stun chance has also been increased.
  • Frenzy: Frenzy’s Cooldown has been decreased.

I have no idea if they will implement these anytime soon and nobody seems to know. However, I’m afraid of being kinda useless at end-game, so I’m just in time for a desperate fix. (I still own both my stat/skill reset pots). So, the questions are the follow:

  1. Should I stick with the current build?
  2. If so, what change would you recommend?
  3. Would you make a change on the suggested ranks before I proceed even further?
  4. I was looking at this build and I’m on time to change it (Taking Hop C1 instead of Barb C3). Would you recommend me to switch it? Link to said build:

Disclaimer: I won’t allow responses like “Play what you want” :rage: I’m looking for advice because I want to be somewhat useful, not perfect, for endgame. Also, I am looking forward to work on my current build, I am not planning on re-rolling another character. So, if changes must be done, it must be from my current position, which is Barb C2.

Thanks in advance and I’m sorry if I sounded rude. I’m still mad because I had to re-roll.

*Edited. For PvE purposes. I don’t care about PvP.
*Edit: Quick disclaimer. English is not my first language, so please forgive my awful mistakes.

1 - it’s the standard fencer build, if you are happy with it, go ahead, seism alone covers fencer’s lack in AOE attack ratio
2 - Other variants would be stopping at Barb 2, taking corsair 2 and getting fencer 1, why? Hexen Dropper, it puts sept etoiles to shame, you also get jolly roger which is another useful PVE tool to add to that. (I took Cor1>Fencer2, risking on Fencer 3 when it comes out)
4 - no comment, doppel playstyle is different from fencer

Some notes:
1- 1 Point in Pouncing can be handy.
2- Don’t overestimate cleave, it’s powerful on stunned mobs but you even sacrificed a point in seism for it to reach 14/15 change. Better max that Seism while you’re at it, you will use seism a lot as a fencer, not just to combo with cleave, but to lockdown mobs and use sept etoiles.

Fencer:

Don’t underestimate Attaque Composee
Max Lunge, that’s your core skill
4 on Coquille is enough, it’s 6 with Venier
Esquive Toucher is a failure of a skill, don’t touch it unless it gets changed

What attaque composee can do with trash gear, 0% damage attributes:

Thanks a lot for your feedback and the time you’ve spent on your reply!

It’s quite standard, yes. The reason I wanted to go with this builds it’s because of the compensation factor, as the Fencer compensates the Barbarian’s lack of sustained DPS and the Barbarian compensates the lack of the Fencer’s burst DPS. I feel alright with this, but my fear is to end up being useless with the current build.

If I do so, what would the skill distribution be to get the most optimal performance? Do I lose value as a tank this way? I can certainly see the increased utility with this build though. So far, I’ve been tanking in dungeons when there isn’t a tank around. I’ll consider this option based on further feedback.

  1. I can see the utility on this one. If I keep this build, I’ll set one point on Pouncing. Thanks for that observation!

  2. I can either take 2 points away from War Cry and max both skills. Since the big plus of this skill is the increased damage, I can sacrifice 2 points. That’s -20 def instead of -30. So my hits would deal… 10 points less damage. :open_mouth: (If the calculation is right) I’m still on time for these fixes without needing my pot.

Yes, I can see how Esquive Toucher falls off the cliff and Lunge stands up, as the “dodge” factor+sustained buff+DPS (due of Lunge’s short cd) is way better. I assume Esquive Toucher doesn’t give you a dodge buff but it’s a situational skill like “blocking just in time”?

I’ll research a bit more with these changes. I appareciate the video you linked. The guy didn’t even use the barbarian skills and still did a well sustained DPS on the boss. I can only imagine the damage output with good/decent gear.

Thanks for all this material! I’ll start re-reading my choices and wait for more feedback if any!

that’s actually my fencer, lol
+0 Venier
Crystal bangle
Zachriel Bangle
Strength Pendant
0% all damage attributes
Also using Guardian lv 4(-24 attack)

I mean I’m still waiting for the prices to drop. Mainly gladiator band. I’m stuck with 3 medium targets on my fencer skills until I get it.

You still have a Venier, which is the weapon I aim to get though! No idea why you call it “trash”. But yes, Swordy classes are expensive to gear up. I know I’ll suffer with that repair bill, because these rapiers are made of paper, basically…

well it’s not actually trash, but very basic fencer gear, If I have something like +5 to +10 Venier, Gladiator bands or sissels+attributes, I could be doing the damage I am doing now even as a fencer C1

there’s another vid out there that shows a fencer C1 doing similar damage as I am doing now mainly because of my first statement, so equipment and attributes really matter. I’m more of an equipment person though

Thanks for telling me what gear I should get, lmao.

Since I didn’t have the chance of speaking to a person with a high level Fencer. What are your thoughts about the class in both PvP and PvE content? Even thought I don’t care about PvP, I want to know if that area is somewhat covered (my guild miiiiiiiiiiight pull me there. I’ll suck) What are your expectations for end-game content with the current circle path? How do you feel it?

PVP is a joke for most swordsman classes, I avoid it unless it’s a 1v1 duel vs other swordsman types. If you took the same build as mine you’ll have the hook utility which is a very good pvp tool, but you will have a hard time closing gaps.

PVE I’m not facing problems with 230+ content and before that. however expect your damage to never be on par with dps mainstream classes.

Expectations: Sorry, I’m just expecting some more flashy skill for Fencer C3, seeing the swordsman trend it’s completely possible.

Fellow Sword > Pelt > Barb c3 > Fencer c2 here. Overall enjoying my time at level 232. Currently trying to work on gear and attributes. Crossing fingers for Fencer 3 to bring some cool stuff, or at least maybe a sweet c3 costume in the future. ;p

Heya, guys! Thanks for sharing your experiences and feelings about the current path. I’m well aware that the Swordman class won’t ever do as much DPS as the current archer/mage classes. I hope IMC address that, as we really want a DPS option for this class.

I’ve been tweaking the class, trying to push some extra utility on it.

Changes:
-Pain Barried reduced by 3 points. The effects are always the same. It roughly increases the duration.
-Bash increased by 3 points. Allowing me to use the “knock-down” attribute. This way, I should be able to mitigate extra damage by CC’ing the mob.
-1 levels on Pouncing. I saw the damage increasment on this skill is kinda high. Should I max it?

Still in debate:
-Either reducing Cleave to max War Cry or reduce War Cry by 2 to max both Seism and Cleave. Based on what I read about War Cry, with the C3 attribute, it increases the attack power by 300. If I do the math, it’s 3x(attribute= max 10) = 30. So that 300 is because the skill itself is at level 10? Should be 270 at level 9 and so on? I’m clueless about that calculation.

Thanks everybody in advance.

You’re on the right track if you really prefer cleave over warcry

1 point on pouncing is enough, It’s fun to use to gather mobs when you got swash on cooldown, or simply need to tear through a bunch of weak mobs.
1 point because it has a very long cooldown.

You can save 3 points you spent on coquille if you are taking fencer 3, save as much because we -might- be getting good stuff you’ll want to try out as soon as rank 8 is out

Thanks again for your reply and sorry for the late answer. The forums have been working like ■■■■ lately.

I was wondering why you would save 3 points, I can see it now. So, does the reset skill pot also reset your attributes?

last time I used a skill reset was on cbt2, it did not wipe attributes then, maybe it’s the same now.
