Hello all. Just a returning player wishing to get some feedback on this new class.
This was the build I came up with after looking at some other builds on the site. Any fixes would be appreciated. Furthermore I would like to ask about the stat build as well if its not to much trouble. The whole Str/Dex thing has got me confused and I see warriors going a combination of str dex and con. I thought perhaps a 50 dex 100 con and the rest str would work. But would like additional help. Lastly I would like to know which attributes are the most common with the build set up I have. Thank you for your time.

Try to max Shield Bash if you can. It becomes very strong later on with Murmillo’s Cassis Crista. You can take the points from Shield Push, Montano and Shield Charge. Those skills are used mostly for PvP and quite useless in PvE. You can even take points from High Kick (but keep it at least lv 1) to max Shield Bash.

I’m not very fond of Guardian. High Guard gives you block rate which helps mitigate damage a lot more than +defense. The reason for that is because Defense has a lot more diminishing return than Block does. You can also go for neither and try to max Umblo Blow instead (if you don’t care about survivability and want more dps). Of course you should always keep High Guard lv 1, however.

Don’t waste a point in Shield Lob, it’s too weak and useless.

Max Headbutt. It’s the strongest Murmillo skill. It gets +100% damage multiplier when you are using helmet and another +100% when targets are stunned. The skill tooltip is misleading and it’s actually much stronger than Evade Thrust or Frenzied Slash.

If you’re a PvE Murmillo build you don’t really need any DEX. None of your skills depend on attack speed (it says on tooltip when they do) and you don’t have skills with many multi-hits either. DEX builds usually focus on Swordman 3 for Concentrate with multi-hit skills so Concentrate bonus applies per hit.

How much CON to take is up to you. CON is a good stat for Murmillos since it also benefits you with Block. In PvE, however, you can survive well enough without any points in CON just by having decent armor. If you do pick CON, try to stop at multiples of 15 for the extra block bonus. I wouldn’t recommend going over 90 CON, the reason for that is because PvE is still very focused around dealing damage rather than surviving.

For attributes, try to get to lvl 8+ the Cassis Crista ones as soon as you can. I recommend you focusing on the Rodelero Skills attribute first, then Peltasta Skills, and after you have both at least lv 8, you can start getting Shooting Star / Butterfly attributes from Cassis. You’ll see a big jump in your damage once you invest into those attributes and even if they are costy, they’re still cheaper than leveling skill damage attribute individually.
Hello and thank you for the help. This is the revamped build with suggestions from you.
I decided that since pve is still about doing dmg more than mitigating it then 1 point into high guard and maxing umbo blow
would be more beneficial to my party. I wanted to get targe smash to 15 but I guess 14 is okay with shield bash being maxed out. I was thinking 45 con and the rest str would be sufficient enough. Please give me a bit more feedback on the build if you think it is up to snuff now. Also what cards would you recommend for mumillo?
You can take out points from High Kick, it’s not a big difference having it lvl 1 instead of lvl 5. Targe Smash on the other hand gets dmg from Cassis’ attribute so it’s much more worthy a skill point. You could also use the remaining points to get Shield Shoving to 13.
Rim Blow needs to be lvl 6 otherwise High Guard’s attribute doesn’t work. Quite pointless getting it lvl 4. Either ditch it completely or keep it at least lvl 6.
Rest looks good. And yeah, 45 CON rest STR is a good build for PvE.
Cards I’m not sure cause I haven’t thought and considered the newest card system yet. I guess you should get 3 Nuaele cards and 3 Gazing Golem cards as backup. Nuaele card is % based card (along with the new physical def card) so it’ll be much more useful than flat +elemental defense from other cards within the same group. 30% chance to activate Pain Barrier is awesome, you probably don’t even need swordman 3 anymore (for lvl 15 PB). Glass Moles are still the same but you can only equip 3 instead of 8 now (and there are a few other good options too that can compete with Glass Moles).
Not sure if the +AoE atk ratio card will be implemented now. If it is, I would ditch Glass Mole.
Okay and I just wanna say thanks for all of the help man. With Umbo blow it seems I can get it to 13 and rim blow to 6 for the high guard skill. Is it better to max umbo and leave rim at 0 and if so what should I put the other points into perhaps High guard? Lastly since murmillo can use pretty much any weapon is there a specific weapon type I should be using. I was thinking spears was a good choice but just not sure.
You can only use 1h spear if you at least have a rank in Hoplite or Dragoon.
I’ve seen Murms weilding blunt-types (maces). Most Pel3Rod3 builds I see go with 1h sword though.
oh right sorry about that been so long that I forgot hoplite is needed. I suppose I can use maces then. Thank you for the suggestion.
Umbo Blow deals +100% damage (in another line of dmg) if enemy attacks you and you do a block (enemy gets a debuff “staggered” for 4 seconds).
Without the stagger, Umblo Blow damage is much lower than every other skill you have. With stagger it becomes on par with your other skills.
Stagger isn’t very reliable however because mob needs to attack you and you need to block. Magical mobs will never get staggered for example. Having max lvl High Guard can also help you stagger mobs easier.
Umbo Blow bonus: +100% High Guard, +100% Stagger, +150% Cassis Atribute = +350% bonus (or multiply by 4.5).
Umbo Blow lv 15 final damage: 431% * 4.5 = 1939%
Umbo Blow lv 15 without stagger: 431% * 3.5 = 1508%
Umbo Thrust bonus: +150% Cassis attribute.
Umbo Thrust lv 5 final damage: 826% * 2.5 = 2065%
Shield Bash bonus: +150% Cassis attribute.
Shield Bash lv 10 final damage: 774% * 2.5 = 1935%
Targe Smash bonus: +150% Cassis attribute.
Targe Smash lv 15 final damage: 608% * 2.5 = 1520%
So as you can see, Umbo Blow with stagger is on par with most of your skills (didn’t calculate every skill cause I’m lazy). Without stagger, it’s much weaker than everything. Rim Blow deals same damage as Umbo Blow without stagger (it doesn’t get bonus from stagger) so by default it’s way worse than Umbo Blow. Rim Blow also causes an annoying knockback to most mobs.
I don’t like Rim Blow much. I think those points are better spent at High Guard. But that’s your decision seeing both skills are reasonably good. ~1500% damage is still nice and more than most skills of Dragoon 2.
Short video of Umbo Blow vs Umbo Thrust damage comparison:
(Note my Umbo Blow is lvl 10 but attributed at 50 while Umbo Thrust is lvl 5 attributed at 30. If my Umbo Blow was maxed it would deal about same damage as Umbo Thrust.)
It’s better to use a sword. You can also use a mace but I don’t think that’s very common. You can only use spear if you pick Hop/goon as @ZeroFoxGiven stated.
K wow so rim blow gets the boot. Thank you for all the help even breaking out the math on us lol. You truly are a wonderful help on these forms man never change. Well I suppose I will just have umbo at 10 and max high guard, since the dmg is pretty reasonable even not maxed out. And the extra block chance will help a ton.
so… umbo blow qnd thrust scale with % damage? because the tooltip shows as base dmg…
Yes all of them do, it’s just a tooltip error.
Wow… that changes everything… Thanks for the info
