[Help] paladin protector build

Hi everybody,

my name is gogrix, i’ve started playing some time ago and i am/will be a support for two friends( an archer and a wizard).
Our focus will be PVE and the two of them being DPS’s i will focus on tank/sup and i really want to be a paladin but i am a bit confuse, so i come ask for help

i was thinking of being kind of a safe haven for them so i planned this build

my plan would be Barrier + counter spell to create a “Protection zone” and divine might + clap + houki broom to make it better . the rest would support this play style
my doubts are:

  • can i switch cleric and krivis for cleric1 priest2 ( i feel this will leave with to little heal)
  • what about cleric 3?
  • at the last ranks what are good options for sups? ( i saw a lot of builds whit PD, kabba and taoist)

Also , i am unsure if this will be really a supportive build, because i’ll be tanky but whit less buffs and no ress.

to finish, my stats will be something like lots of con and int and a bit of SPR, any recommendation?

Thanks already for any help

(Sorry for any grammar mistake, english is not my first language)

  1. If you go Krivis you usually want Krivis C3 for the infinite buffs. As a circle 1 dip I’d recommend Priest, it fits far better on this build with Ressurection and Monstrance.

  2. Miko really shines when coupled with Diev C3 + PD2/Inquisitor. I’d swap Rank 8 for Inquisitor. Even if you don’t want to deal DPS, the Malleus debuff is a huge help to your party and Inquisitor fits Paladin builds MUCH better.

  3. Consider Kabbalist as R7 too. Oracle is very good to farm very high end items like Manahas Sets and the DPK mats for 315 orange weapons; it also gives you immunity to the most common debuffs/CCs and a sudo-silence in area. Kabbalist gives you Revenged Sevenfold, wich is stellar on very high end bosses on party play, and also gives you Ein Sof to refill your friends mana pool. Weight the pros and cons on those 2, both of them suit a more support oriented Paladin.

  4. Invest more heavily on Fade, it helps a lot on party play and applies to all the party members in range.

  5. Dip one point into Turn Undead. It might seem feeble, but when you are killing 2 out of 5 mobs with 500k HP on lvl 300+ maps you will see how much that point matters.

  6. Don’t go C1>P2, it’s way better to have Cleric 2 because of better heals and, mainly, Divine Might.

Thank you very much for the help.
after reading and re-planning i’ve come to this :

(even tho here is the oracle i am really split between kabba and oracle)

i suppose i won’t need god smash.

  • is cure worth something in the higher levels?
  • for a possible r9 what would be better kabba2 or oracle2?
  • and lastly what would be better for ET and dungeons, oracle or kabba?

thanks again

EDIT: for some reason the onbox still show the old build, but the link leads to the new. go figure

Pick priest instead of Krivis if you want to be a protector.

Edit: Nevermind the part about Oracle, I mixed up Counter Spell and Prophecy.

Also Paladin only benefits Inquisitor with Conviction. And it only increases the damage of Godsmash at this rank (hopefully something else next rank, Paladin still feels very lackluster, Inquisitor must fix the class ). You currently don’t have Godsmash planned in and somewhat rightly so since you plan on going for con, int, spr and not for dex (no crits => kind of weak godsmash).

For an int build you may as well skip Inquisitor and go for PD 2 instead. Your friends may or may not miss the inquisitor wheel and the malleus debuff but this will allow you to deal good damage by yourself.

By the way, spr is sort of useless. Barrier slightly benefits from it and to a probably very small degree also Turn Undead but literally nothing else in your build. It’s not worth it to put points in there just for that.
People usually just go for spr if they want priest 3 for Stoneskin. And then they consequently become chaplains.

Smite and Conviction by themselves are very weak lategame. Would really hurt to not have Godsmash to make up a bit for it. But like I said… no dex, no crits, sucky dmg. And if you go dex your healing will be garbage, even with the hidden bonus from Restoration.

Also, some point distributions don’t make sense to me. Why 4 points in Cure and 5 in Restoration? 1 point in Restoration is enough to get the hidden healing bonus, 3 for the attribute (which is quite expensive to max out and not very useful overall). 5 does not make sense. Cure is a somewhat strong damage skill for int builds because of the multihits. Either go for as much as possible as a damage skill or leave it 1 for the debuff removal. Points could be taken out from Fade (1 is enough, though the duration from 5 feels good and always makes me happy personally ).

Also… Barrier does not keep large type enemies out. They just walk right through and usually hurt a lot. The whole “Protection Zone” thing may not work as you imagine it. Barrier scrolls can also be used by anyone btw. Pala sadly does not even have a monopoly on the skill.

As for other useful support class options:

Priest 2 for Mass Heal & Revive

Cleric 3 for the max amount of healing tiles

Kabba is for Ein Sof only (restores SP fully with attribute and the HP increase is also welcome - difficult to help other party members with it though because they have to step on it and usually nobody sees it)

I would say even your 2nd build is “all over the place”. You are trying to do “too much”.

Why krivis 1?
This honestly only really gives you [daino]. You won’t be capping buffs in your set up unless maybe your wiz is a thauma-chrono (thauma isn’t in a good place right now so I won’t expect it). SPR + [zalciai] got killed off in a previous patch. [zaibas] 5 is pft dps if you even decide to use it.

Why miko?
It’s a stupid question because miko is just so strong, but it has close to no synergy with your build. [sweeping] and [clap] are great on the really strong installations (statues) but pointless for anything else. +1 lv to both [barrier] and [counterspell] is too small an effect to warrant miko’s power.

  • [barrier] doesn’t work on elite and special mobs (that’s a lot of mobs like that past 200) and bosses
  • [counterspell] is 30/90 sec no matter what lv

I picked up on your desire to be a “protector”. The only “successful” build to do that right now is deiv-miko with [ausrine] and [world tree]. There is “another way” to protect (though not popular in the slightest). Cleric 3 and kabbalist offers [guardian saint] and [ein sof].

  • [guardian saint] + attributes lets you take damage for 1 friend less 50%
  • [ein sof] either doubles your HP or gives 50% more HP + SP recovery (more HP if you go kaba2)

I also see you want to be a paladin. You have to look at the kit 1st.

  • [smite] is “bad” because it literally only scales skill atk per lv making it a “1 pt wonder” by current standards.
  • [restoration] is another “1 pt wonder” because of the 20sec interval between HP and SP recover. It does however have a combo with [heal] in that it doubles the additional healing you get (not including the % healing)
  • [resist elements] is really good because it reduces specific elemental damage by up to 40% with a 20% chance of completely nullifying the damage. No matter how good this looks it is “nothing” compared to complete damage immunity from [ausrine].
  • [turn undead] is just wonderful in higher lv content. 1 shots on 300-500k HP mobs is just good.
  • [conversion] is bad. So bad.
  • [barrier] is good on paper, but because so many mobs ignore it the skill becomes really bad in practice. When it does work, you wouldn’t really care because those are essentially just trash mobs. The anti missile attribute coulda been a thing, but again damage reduction is “nothing” compared to complete damage immunity from [ausrine]. Do you see the trend?
  • [conviction] is only really there to boost [smite] and later on [god smash]. 100 more flat elemental damage is pft vs 300-500k HP mobs (and those are just mobs, what more for bosses having HP in the BILLIONS).

I can recommend cleric3-x-x-x-kaba1-x or cleric2-deiv3-miko-x-x for “protector” then cleric2-priest-pala3-monk-inqui for “paladin”.

Wow. the barrier not blocking high lvl monster (they simply walk
through it? that’s rude) thing is really bad :disappointed_relieved:, but is better to know now then when using it on game, right?

Well, looks like i’m going to chage my build a lot and let the paladin out of the full support area. The only thing that kills diev for me are the long cooldowns but i can live with that.

so for the sup i’ll follow this build

looks pretty good to me. and i’ll think about the pala later :stuck_out_tongue:

thanks for the help guys, it would be really bad to get pala3 and discover my build don’t work the way i thought

it’s fine if u ready to do 0 damage at late game

You talkin bout his paladin plan or the pd?
