(help me) Ranger - how do I do it?

Hi guys

I’m here to ask for some help! I have a character of each class (priest, swordman, wizard ) all around lvl 140 now. I had a fun and easy time playing with them. But now I’m testing an archer Ranger c2 now, lvl 63. It’s so hard to play, it’s so weak that I don’t know what to do. I mean, I’m probably doing something wrong cuz it’s weaker than my pet. To kill a boss I need 4 sp potion and to use Barrage around 10 times. As priest or wizard I don’t think I need to spam more than 5 skills to kill a boss. With my hoplite I think I can kill a boss with auto atak faster than my Ranger using everything. I can’t really farm since my auto atk as ranger is really weak. So I think I’m doing something wrong. can anyone help me?

if it’s just like this… pls tell me archer is WAY WAY WAY WAY better at higher lvl, cuz I guess there’s no pointing playing a ranger with a very low damage. I tried hunter, but pet just didn’t work properly.

I don’t really play archer class, but I know that you must first upgrade your bow to +10 to reduce the damage penalty.

Ranger 2 without archer 2 has a hard time getting crits. Make sure your bow is over upgraded and you buy enhance attributes for your most used skills. Socket 4* or higher gems as well.

Sp will always be a problem, it’s almost like buying ammo. Such is life for archer tree.

  1. Get barrage.
  2. Gather mob.
  3. Use barrage close to the enemy.
  4. Use other skills in between. (i recommend high anchoring, rushdog, oblique shot)
  5. Repeat stuffs.
  6. Enjoy

My build has none Spr. No critical rate bonus from Archer C2. Get your Iron bow to +10 before getting the 170 tier.

Ranger is a top PVE class…unless you are auto attacking.

hey guys thanks
and is there a place where I can read about why +10?

Because bows have a size penalty when attacking med and large enemies. This penalty can be removed by upgrading the bow. +10 removes the penalty completely. Anything less removes a percentage of the penalty. Iron bow is good enough for you to keep until 120 if you +10 it. Even +8 or better is worth keeping, personally.

it’s so wrong I’m doing a cryomancer now since I gave up on archer… and Cryomance c2 with non enchant weap common weap and no attribute deal 2x more damage than my ranger with +8 bow iron bow… feels bad

I’ve been playing ranger, haven’t had much time to play so I’m still 115 ranger c3. I found it was kinda weak in the beginning too but its been better since 80~. Yeah you’re never gonna kill bosses as fast as swordy classes, my friend one shot a boss with stabbing as a hoplite and i was like WTFFF.

Uptil lvl 80 or so I used some str, had like 30 str 25 spr 15 con rest dex. After that I switched only have str from eq now its like 20, con is 30 spr is 45 and dex 120+. I have 5k+ hp 1.7k sp. I’ve been using +5 bows only coz i didnt know about the dmg reduction, but i’ve been slotting them with lvl 4 crit rate gems with gem roast, so thats +28 crit rate. Been playing solo mostly and haven’t had any trouble, getting to ranger c3 helps a bunch coz u get bounce shot for more aoe, and spiral arrow for boss dmg. With the spiral arrow crit attr and my base crit rate i crit every spiral hit. Don’t have swift step crit bonus, but my crit is pretty high anyway with the dex + weapon gems. Im still using small sp potions, those with my natural sp recov rate are enough and they only cost like 140z. For bosses i dont use a single pot, just normal sp is enough - hit steady aim, then spiral arrow, multishot, barrage. and repeat when cooldowns run out. auto attack in the mean time, only takes half my sp at the most for a boss fight.

45 spr is enough for me right now, can’t exactly spam oblique but i use it a lot. Put attributes in that and in barrage and they do decent damage. Going to hit fletcher soon will probably increase spr a bit coz those skills are expensive and have low cool downs. It will up my single target dmg, barrage and bounce are enough for AoE, but you could also get high anchoring. I’m trying out using steady aim right now, gotta lvl the attribute pretty high for it to be useful tho. And i don’t have cash to lvl attributes for so many diff skills :< so I dropped high anchoring and crit shot all together.

where did you hear this info?

Uh. Everywhere. Bows have a size penalty that can be removed through upgrades. I’ve known it since before NA’s first cbt. I believe I found it first on www.reddit.com/r/treeofsavior

I thought the reason why some monster are much harder to kill was because they have high defense also some monster has 20-25k hp. so I didn’t bother. my damage on small , mid and high are almost all the same… it just that some monster when I check on TOSbase they just have thousands of total HP…

how much is the damage difference when you made it?

It’s noticeable enough that you will never not use a high upgraded bow ever again. Specifically, idk. I went from the starter bow to buying a really good bow off the market. Double digits became triple digits. My next upgrade isn’t until 120 since I have a good iron bow.

Based on the info in this it seems this damage modifier was in place before this patch, but this is the patch I remember where they mentioned upgrades on weapons affecting the damage modifier.

thanks for the link… so it was 40% and not totally remove… I always up my weapon up to +7 or 8 but never go beyond it. so I was partially losing around -12% :expressionless:
