Help me choose a new alt!

Hi there

I don’t know if I’m writing this in the right category but I’ll go ahead anyway:

Right now I have 2 characters + 1 pet:

  1. Main - Monk
  2. Farmer - Shwarzer Reiter (to be, 1 circle away from) + Leaf Penguin

I still have one slot left and I’m thinking about making one of them merchant-like classes, but I don’t know which one to pick. I’ve seen Alchemists, Pardoners and others setting up shop at cities and I’d like to have one too so I can leave my alt AFK and make some cash through it too.

Question is - which merchant type class/build is the most profitable?

probably alchemist, i dont know how it works entirely but i know you can make potions which if are cheap enough people sell a whole bunch of! i buy like 50 at a time because i end up using all of it over an hour (paladin life Q_Q ) and it takes like 20k silver, so thats like 100k every 5 hours for whoever im buying from.

Considering the cost of making potions + market tax means alchs doesnt make jack ■■■■ because of undercutters

If you want to play an “active” crafting class rather than just open up a shop and leave them, Alchemist. All the alch money is in Item Awakenings, at least in Klaipeda. I see people shouting for awakenings daily and I’ve had people pay me everything between 1 shard (130~150k) to 5 shards (650~750k) per single attempt. There’s a lot of demand if you can spare the time to log in and open up a new item dungeon every 10 minutes.

But for AFK shops, IMO the best choice is either Squire or Pardoner if you’re smart and setup your shop in a popular grinding spot. You can charge a bit more and no one will really care if the location is good and no one else is there for competition. You can also setup your shop in places you want to grind/farm on your own characters, which is handy.

Um, “active” crafting class? You mean I have to participate in awakening too?

Kind of. You can leave the awakening as long as the buyer stays inside to complete it, but since you actually have to log in and use the awakening skill and most people want to do multiple attempts at a time, you have to actually stay at the computer and wait for them to finish. You can hop on another character and farm or whatever in between, but it’s a bit more involved than just setting up an AFK shop, so if you don’t like swapping characters and interrupting what you’re doing it might not be a good fit.

The reason there’s so much demand for awakenings is because it’s tedious to do for the alch, basically.

Well, if it lands more profit than usual… Alch it is then.

Now comes the build:

I picked Cryo/Kino cuz I heard Ice Wall+PP combo melts bosses quickly.
As for Alch I really don’t know what to do with the last 15 points - should I max Briquetting or put 6 in Magnum Opus and 9 in Dig? Or 5 MO/5 Bri/5 Dig?

Before you make an alch, you should consider that potions won’t make much money for the time you spend. You have to farm the mats to make pots yourself, and crafting 10 potions at a time on a long 30s animation is really slow and boring. I also believe most of pots being sold in market are made by botters, meaning you’ll be competing with them when it comes to pricing (you’ll lose).

I’ve seen some people pay for awakening with shards too, but they are few and far between, so don’t be too attracted to this.

Gem shops don’t make any money either.

If you are looking to actually make silver through actively playing, choose a farming character not a merchant class (as counterintuitive as it is, merchant classes make very little silver). If you are looking to make an AFK shop, BlueFlewQueen is right, a squire or pardoner will be decent.

I know you have a SR already for farming, but you could also consider Linker/Thaum/FF for farming higher level maps with low drop rate items that sell for a lot. Demand for DPK drops is high, so this build can make money much easier than an alch imo (though it’s kinda painful having to sit and farm the mats).

If even after all of that, you’re still attracted to alchemist, I don’t recommend cryokino at all. Cryokino excels at bursting a single target, while alchemists need to kill a lot of trash mobs to make their money. CD’s for cryokino are too high, and everything other than the ice wall + PP combo is relatively weak.

I’d recommend this build for an active money making alchemist build:

Joint Penalty + HK will allow you to use swell body on up to 5 monsters at a time, and double your drops. It will also allow you to kill most things with alchemistic missile or fireball/flare, even when swelled (so long as your gear is decent for an alt, and the monsters you fight aren’t out of your league).

The real money with alchemist imo is through magnum opus. You will be able to transmute cheap, easy to farm objects into much rarer and expensive items to sell in the market (or to make gear to sell in market or use yourself). One example of this is farming blue tini horns to make brown tini horns. At the time of me writing this post, brown tini horns are in market for 600k silver, and you need only 6 blue tini horns to make one (they are fairly common drops, and thaum + linker combo will help you farm as much as you can as an Alch).

There is an addon to see what items you can transmute with magnum opus, including the recipe and puzzle to make things easier. You’ll have to search for it yourself, though I think it shouldn’t be too hard to just use the forum’s search function and find the link.

Other popular builds for Alchemist are Pyro/Linker/Alch3 and Wiz3/Ele2/Alch3.

Well, to be honest I’m more looking for a merchant that I can just leave AFK in the background and come back later to check if I made some silver… So between a Squire or Pardoner, which is better?

As for my farmer, a friend let me play his Linker/Thaum/FF when I was at his place for a bit. The damage was awesome, true, but compared to archer the gameplay was kinda… bursty. Meaning I had to wait for Link to come off CD to use it again. I feel way more comfortable with my Ranger because I can constantly zap mobs with either Barrage, Bounce Shot, Spiral Arrow or Oblique Shot whenever either of those skills is on CD, and I hear that once I hit SR is that Limacon will be my main skill. But for now I’m enjoying my Monk.

Squire will be better if you don’t want to invest into much. Pardoner will need high SPR (and preferably you want friends that can give you SPR buffs before you open your shop) so you can sell 3k+ blessings and be super popular.

If you can get high Blessing damage, pardoner will make more money as squire has more competition.

Well, I know from experience how awesome Blessing can be XD

So the build best suited for making cash would be? (here’s my take)

I know it looks a bit insane, but do keep in mind that this build is solely focused on selling buffs.

Should probably take Cleric2>Priest3>Chaplain>Pardoner2 over krivis2, but I’m not sure myself. I suggest you go to cleric subforums for that.

Squire for main account base camp + repair shop.

Then create another account and create a c2 squire for another base camp, a pyro2thauma1chrono3 (if you have a spare computer) and a pardoner for blessings.

Choose a 315 weapon material. Setup 2 base camps (one at each spawn of desired mob), leave Repair+Blessing on the lvl 10 base camp. On that same base camp, if you have a spare computer, leave your chrono online for buffing your SR with haste, quicken, enchant fire and, if you have daino scrolls, swell left arm and enchant lightning.

Those are the alts that you need. Setup this and farm 20m+ per day of mats. Farm for a month and achieve full solmiki and lvl10 trans on your weapon, then go play any moba until rank 9.

Better shop might be actually appraiser, pardoner needs a lot of SPR gear to be good (at least for bless) and squires, well there are a lot of them.

Appraiser 6 its always requested in high populated citys.

do a buff shop.

aka pardoner

@ridelith This is just a clusterf**k, no thanks.
@pollitochikn I’m going full SPR anyway.

The reason I chose that setup is because Pardoner can use Simony to make skill scrolls, and Krivis and Oracle are best choice if you’re going for making money. Chaplain is a tempting choice, but again, this is a Greedy Priest build. The skills that can be scrolled are:
Cleric - Cure, Deprotected Zone
Krivis - Aukuras, Daino, Zalciai
Priest - Monstrance
Paladin - Restoration, Turn Undead, Barrier
Oracle - Arcane Energy, Clairvoyance, Forecast

At the moment I’m wavering between Krivis and Oracle, cause:
Krivis - 3 lv 10 skills to sell, but no attack skills
Oracle - lv 10 Arcane Energy, just 1 point needed in Clairvoyance & Forecast, lots of fun skills & if/when R9 arrives possibility going C3 and setting up Gender Shop
