Help a new player, please

ok first of all i searched on this forum if others had my same problem but i didn’t find anything relevant or recent.
I am a new player (I’ve got 65 hours and i’m level 80) that chose the swordsman class two weeks ago. i quickly searched for a build and i’m actually using this build: http://www.tosbase.com/tools/skill-simulator/build/sdyn41jd5h/
with the exception i chose peltasta instead of swordsman C2… Now i’m Hoplite C2.

The real problem is that i tried doing the level 50 dungeon and i’m incredibly weak. even yesterday i was level 77 and all my party was 10 levels below mine and i couldn’t even kill a single mob while archer or wizard did so much damage compared to me. i have a level 6 grand spontoon that has something like 120-140 damage… i even have 82 points invested into strength.

i just have this problem while in a dungeon, where my only utility is to use the provocation skill of the peltasta circle, because in PVE doing the campaign i have no problem at all.

is it only a problem of mine? is it a common problem of my starting class? please tell me if it’s worth to continue being an hoplite or which other class should be better in terms of: “being funny” and “being useful in dungeon/coop”.

thanks in advance for answering and sorry for the text wall

Step 1 - Use the best plate parts for your level
Step 2 - Get Aspersion and Sacrament, blessing is optional
Step 3 - Pain Barrier if mobs disturb you too much, it’s your best buff in Rank1

With that, mobs should hit you for around 1-50 (of course, mage monsters will still hurt). You can proceed to doing damage.

Hoplite is weak early because of long cooldown skills(you will find yourself auto attacking a lot), but you’ll be able to play more comfortably when you get to classes like doppel/Corsair c2

Also I’m not sure why you are doing such weak damage, most monsters there like pawnds should be leather where you get your advantage

oh and last, the build you are following is probably meant for pvp, no points in stabbing/pierce PVE wise is a BAD idea.

I think you will get more help if you edit the thread into the swordsman category seen this is a swordsman build…

*edit I’m sleepy af

Mobs are just really tanky in dungeons, archers and wizards are superior in DPS atm

thanks for your help.
@Lostac unfortunately i am already using a full plate armor and a scallop shield with 47 physical defense, even have a level 4 plate mastery defense attribute.
my big problem is that i can’t deal damage even with finestra level 10 and gung ho level 5.

  • i deal 600 damage in 2 seconds, while an archer deals 3000-6000 damage in 2 seconds
  • i can two shot a level 50 mob in a field, but i won’t be able to kill a pawnds in 10 hits

@DrRM maybe i will, just wanted to have a better advice from all classes on my little problem

kyle_ruiz6 i never solo dungeons, i can’t even find infos about them. Does mobs’health increase that much in instanced dungeons?

I gave you a tip regarding that because the first step for you as a melee to deal damage is to be able to take damage.

The problem is on your class. No overheat, Long cooldown. Finestra is strong though and your auto attacks should still be okay with sacrament since there’s a lot of dark type monsters.

Don’t worry your life will get a little better later, after your peak you’ll start to feel a little weak again because it’s a swordsman problem.

Should have taken Concetrate as well. The attribute helps a ton at lower levels (sub level 200, passed that, don’t sweat it). As a c1 hoplight, your main dps skill is Stabbing. Even with 1 skill point, that’s a good chunk of damage.

If you decide to reroll, that first circle of swordsman looks something like this:
0 pts: thrust (1 point if your skills later on have no pierce)
3 pts: bash (for knockback attribute)
1~5 pts: gungho (0 or 1 if you’re building for tank)
5 pts: concentrate
1~5 pts: pain barrier

thank you all for your suggestions.
