Have some questions about Fencer. Thanks guys

I saw some things about fencer in KOBT on other forums. They all think that swordmanC2 - hoptilec3 then fencer c2 is the best route. And I dont want to swap weapon to spear to keep the buff, so i went swordmanC2 - barbarian C1 already and the builds on tosbase also do this way. But guys on this formus all think swordmanC1 then pelta is the best way. Since the class cant change , just wondering swordman C2 is acceptable to continue or is that bad? And also see so many people said that frenzy is bad for fencer cause you cant stack it. But the builds on tosbase all max it. So what should I do for this skill.

BTW they all think fencer is a dps, but most of guys here said fencer is a tank, it confused me.

Thanks everyone for answering my these two questions.

The reason why most people refer to Fencer as a possible tank is most likely because it pales in comparison with some of the other Rank 6 paths like Corsair C2 and Doppelsoedner. It is also possible to play fencer with a shield which increases their survivability in exchange for the bonus damage output that fencers could gain by not wearing any sub-weapon/equipment

As for the reason why someone said that hop c3 -> fencer c2 is best route is most likely because fencer has a bunch of things that allow for higher pierce damage output and that could be boosted even further by a pardoner party member who has discerning evil which extends the duration of debuffs on an enemy

Regarding Barbarian, I don’t really have much say at the class because it never took my interest at all and it is too mainstream for my tastes

No problem, you have been able to play the game already right? Your questions should be even more answered once you get to try it for real xD

Fencer can be played as BOTH. I’d like to think of it as a very solid Hybrid class that can be a full-time tank but still shell out massive pierce damage. Think pre-nerf Ninja from the early days of Final Fantasy 11.

The role for a Fencer can be altered heavily by which classes you choose up to it…and I HIGHLY recommend someone to roll it with a shield because it will give them stupid levels of versatility in PvP. For instance, a Fencer who went Rodelero C3, Swordsman C2, and Barbarian will be a monster and I bid anyone good luck trying to kill them simply due to them having 3 on-demand stuns, a crit-rate increasing heavy hit attack, a solid multi-hit combo, a crap ton of CC’s and the ability to mix up your opponent’s stats for like 20 seconds, and a mess of evasion+ and block+ attacks with no cooldown. This class in my mind would be the best of both worlds and will set someone up to dominate in a future class past that.

On the flipside, you can have someone who went Highlander C3 and Corsair C2 and then took up Fencer afterwards and can now drop your defense to zero while hitting you with both a rapier and a dagger with no cooldown for like 45 seconds. Oh, and now you have 2 powerful skills with zero cooldown: Skyliner and Flanconnade.

There’s a lot of different ways to build a Fencer. Just remember to be practical.

I already played this on Korean server, and I already go swordman C2 and barbarian C1. I saw all these things just after I did that all … So I wondering if it acceptable to continue. And I still not decide to go corsiar or fencer. Still early to go either, so anyway, thanks a lot bro,

Ahh alright then good luck in your quest as melee type char :+1:

Thanks a lot. Now I see you can play many different fencers by different routes. So I’ll keep playing this character. I already did swordman C2 and barbarian C1. Thanks a lot man.

I think you are just getting trolled.

Even though you could go with Hoplite as a Fencer, you can only use 2 skills with Rapier: Pierce and Stabbing. You don’t keep the Finestra buff when you swap weapons and all the other skills are unusable while using a Rapier.

Sure, Pierce and Stabbing and pierce-type skills which in theory should have good synergy with Fencer’s Attaque Coquille, but in practice that is not the case. Not only that, but getting 3 circles of Hoplite is a massive waste considering how little you get in return, and it also leaves you vulnerable for future PvP content (as you get close to no CC).

At the same time, Fencer skills cannot be used with Spear, so there is a massive conflict of synergy between the available skills that build has.

Swordsman C2 is also a waste in my opinion. You never really auto-attack as a Fencer, and you get a lot more benefits from Peltasta such as:

  • +18% evasion when using Guardian (Fencer’s love evasion)
  • Manual block with C (+25% block and +25% defense while using it)
  • Swash Buckling (AoE taunt and +25% HP when using it)
  • Chance of 3 second stun when using Umbo Blow (for PvP while using a shield, if you are interested in that)

You lose a lot from not going Peltasta, especially as a Fencer.

Which leaves you with two main options: Highlander and Barbarian (Rodelero maybe if you want to sacrifice PvE for more PvP, but there is no real PvP in the game yet).

Highlander gives you Bleed on C2 and Armor Break on C3, while Barbarian gives you high-damage AoE skills that can stun for 2 seconds.

While Highlander currently has a 0 CD Sky Liner, that is not much of a big factor in a Fencer build compared to other builds, as you get Flanconnade.

So yeah, go Highlander if you want debuffs or go Barbarian if you want stuns, and take Peltasta.

I don’t think that whoever made that Hoplite C3->Fencer C2 build has any experience playing Fencer, or even played the game that much considering that the only reason for choosing that build is reading the description of the skills with no knowledge of how it could actually play in the game.

Thanks so much, it helps me a lot. But I’m already swordman c2 and barbarian c1, I dont want to restart if it’s acceptable to play. Or can I go corsair which is better with sword c2 and barbarian c2? I dont excatly know which I love more between corsair and fencer…

Don’t worry too much about it, every build is viable in this game. Sure, you won’t have the Peltasta AoE benefits, but it is not the end of the world (could make it slightly more difficult to find parties, but nothing that will stop you from enjoying the game).

If you already have Swordsman C2->Barbarian C1, then both Corsair and Fencer remain as viable options for your build. Since you already went with Barbarian, there are many ways you can move forward:

Swordsman C2->Barbarian C3->Fencer->Fencer C2 or Doppelsoeldner
Swordsman C2->Barbarian C2->Corsair C2->Doppelsoeldner or Corsair C3

Those are the classic Fencer and Corsair builds with Barbarian as the core class before them. While you could advance to the next rank of those classes, you could also choose Doppelsoeldner as a great alternative. You can even get Peltasta at a later rank if you feel it would make you enjoy the game more.

But if you can’t decide between one or the other, you could even mix them up and still have a good build:

Swordsman C2->Barbarian C2->Corsair C2->Fencer

You would sacrifice Fencer C2 or Barbarian C3 for this, but it is still a pretty viable build that could let you play both classes without too much of a problem. Since the build doesn’t have Peltasta, then you don’t have to worry about using a shield and can just go with Rapier+Dagger, which lets you use all the Corsair and Fencer skills.

It just depends on what you really want to do in the game with your character.

Thanks so much. I know what I should go now. :smile:
