Have a quest NPC tell 'em to suck it up and grind

A lot of the flailing over exp, questing, and leveling comes from players approaching the game with the wrong expectations. They try to play the way they played their last game and wind up being a level 21 soloing red level 30 mobs and complaining how inefficient it is. They need a tutorial.

The easy solution to teach them how to grind is to take advantage of their expectations and trick them: give them a quest to go grind.

Add something like a quest NPC right after the crystal mines with a quest to form a party, gather around a bonfire, and kill as many monsters as possible in 15 minutes. Make it infinitely repeatable so they’ll keep doing it to level up. Soon, they’ll be hooked on drugs, I mean party grinding.

Knowledge is one of the most important things in life. If you don’t work to find out where the good grind spots are, you don’t deserve to know it. Don’t send people there by quests. Make them work for it, explore, and feel the reward when they finally find a good place!

Did you mean a quest where they need(obligatory) to use the party search system? And kill X amount of monsters in a X time limit? Hmmmm. Pretty neat but it must be in the tutorial level of the game.

The search system wouldn’t be necessary; if they already have a party they can do it with them. Since it’s for new players, doing it even earlier in the game would be fine.

I like this.

ToS isn’t usually one for hand-holding, but I think the player interaction is one of the most important aspects in this game and it should be introduced early on. I think it would be nice in the tutorial, Miner’s Village, or Crystal Mines.

Maybe even have 2 - one during the tutorial since it’s optional, and then another after you have better skills (at the Mines) so you can have a taste of class dynamics.
