[Guide] Thaumaturge: The Forgotten Class

Really nice ideas here :blue_heart:.

Right now thaumaturge for me is a farm class and one of the best at it. I farm 315 materials alone with my thaumaturge and that’s because of the matk bonus which grants nearly 4k additional damage per tick on my fireball and the additional magic defense making 90% of the magic mobs hit for 1. The additional 418 matk that swell left arm gives me is also very significant when i use 8 Chapparition.
But thats only thauma2, i don’t really see any motivation to go thauma3 on my build since i would lose enchanter for scrolls or sage for damage mitigation.

Hi guys,

I am interested in making a thaum for farming dungeons, but also want to be useful in higher end play.

I was originally thinking of warlock for Invocation silver farming and came up with the following builds:

pyro2link2thaum2 sage or enchanter
Kind of cookie cutter, which I don’t like at all, but fills the roll of farmer very well. Sage is probably better here for duping fireballs and missile hole.

pyro2thaum3warlock2
No linker, possibly better for r8 maps with link immunities. Extra duration on swell right/left arms and two DoT dps classes to take advantage of flat matk buffs. Maybe better pyro3thaum2.

cryo3thaum2warlock2
For freeze. Not sure this would work well for solo play. With current state of Agny necklace, cryo seems weak outside of Frost Pillar.

What do you guys think? I want to future proof the character and have seen ktos changes for warlock/thaum/cryo (and possible pyro nerf?). I do agree that thaum3 is weak at the moment.

Stat wise, regardless of build, will probably be 100-150con, rest Int. Not using transpose for anything but campfire heals.

We thnik taht the ones hwo rwites “CYRO” deos not desreve thier qeustions to be ansewred.

Thank you for your useful response.

Pyro2Link2Thauma2-sage is the best all round for now. Warlock without link is ok only for silver farming in dp2. Thaum 3 is almost useless like 200matk buff does not worth 1 circle. Cryo-thauma-lock is just bad.
Better is to go either 1st build, or pyro3-chrono2-warlock2 for pure silver farming, but this becomes boring quite fast.

It’s actually around 500~600, at least for Sorcerer. In the tooltip it only shows a difference of about 200, but if you look at the grimoire it’s higher. I doublechecked on some low level mobs as well and it comes out to around 500~600 more damage.

The difference between ThauC2 and ThauC3 comes out to around 300ish magic attack after you take into account skill levels and Swell Brain scaling alongside Left/Right Arm, or 200ish magic attack and 100ish defense if you use a shield subweapon. Personally, I find this more useful than a circle in Linker considering there are hundreds of Linkers in the game and you can buy JP scrolls if you really need them. Or you could put both into your build if you have the space for it, really.

It depends on what other classes you’re using and how they interact with Thau’s buffs, so if ThauC2 works for you then that’s fine. But as it is now, I don’t think ThauC3 is in any dire need of more buffing, maybe some adjustments to the scaling later on if the power creep gets any worse or adding in more skills that use INT scaling to make its effect useful to more classes.

So… this idea of a full INT Thau3 Pyro(or any other wizz DPS) just occurred to me. But I do not have the right gear to test out this theory. Thought I’d leave it here for some opinion and feedback.

The Idea here is to use Swell Brain + Transpose for an insane amount of CON for HP recovery, equipped with Animus.

(reason why CON is at 541 is to match INT value at 773, simulating the use of Transpose)

That should give you an equal amount of HP Recovery of roughly 938. Now Pair that up with Animus that converts HP Recovery into Magic Amp and you’ve got 375 Magic AMP…

Now from what I understand, the way Animus works is that It snapshots your HP recovery and turns it into magic AMP. So you should still keep your magic AMP after transpose expires.

So, what you essentially end up with is full INT restored, giving you back roughly 1100 Magic attack, while still maintaining your 375 Magic AMP! And that’s just your base stats without gear!

If you go for full swell brain, that should give you an additional 210 attack in total. 60 from transposed magic amp & 150 INT after transpose expires.

Adding Swell Left & Right @ full INT of 773 + 150 swell Brain giving you about 923INT. With the new INT scaling for swells, that should give you another 950 base attack.

Swell Right:

  • 34.4 + ([Skill Level] -1) × 12.4 + [Character INT] × 0.15 + [Swell Left Arm: Enhance Level] × 3]
  • 34.4 + ([15] -1) × 12.4 + [923] × 0.15 + [50] × 3
  • 496.45

Swell Left:

  • 40 + ([Skill Level] -1) × 14.6 + [Character INT] × 0.13 + [Swell Right Arm: Enhance Level] × 3]
  • 40 + ([10] -1) × 14.6 + [923] × 0.13 + [50] × 3
  • 441.39

TLDNR: Theoretically speaking, this build can achieve 1100 + 210 + 950 + 375 = 1645 base attack with buffs before weapons.

So, any thoughts & opinion on this crazy build? XD
I’m not much of a TOS mechanic math wiz so please correct me if there’s a misleading mechanic/formula, thanks!

edit: So… Animus only takes 40% of HP recovery. Adjusting the math really takes out a huge chunk of damage :cold_sweat:

afaik Animus only takes 40% of your HP recovery rate so it would only give you around 420-500 mamp.

Ah! You’re right. Misread that…

I’m not sure if Animus would work with Transpose… I remember having a similar idea using Animus with Aukuras, but even if you equip the necklace after receiving the buff it doesn’t apply the HP recovery bonus to Animus’ effect. Transpose might work differently since it’s a buff to CON rather than HP recovery directly, but I wouldn’t invest in that idea too heavily before checking.

Transpose -> Equip Animus -> Cancel Transpose. It works and gives around 400-500 M AMP for full INT thaum.

Does the extra mamp reset once you change map/channel?

It does on each load screen, such as Aspersion.

Nice! That’s good to know. I also have a full INT Thau3 as well. Still no luck in Animus runs

I have a question about tranpose

lets say you transpose from int to con (now you have lots of con and so lots of HP)

what if you transpose again before the duration of transpose is over, does it keep your high con(from the first transpose) or it will actually reverse that with the int ?

ideally it should keep ur hp but for now it reverse back so u have to pot/heal again

ok thanks for the clarification!. thats a shame!
