[Guide] Swordsman's Battle Manual (All classes) - By Cathexis

@IceCool
Are you getting these classes with fencer in mind as the end goal??
if so then neither…
.-.

Great guide! Even if I’m not planning on playing a Swordsman I got to learn a thing or two reading it!
Keep up the good work! :thumbsup:

If it is for PvE, I would do something like this:

Swordsman->Highlander C3->Corsair C2->Fencer

(At least these are the skills I would prioritize during PvE)

However this is still highly up to change because we still need to confirm whether or not Sky Liner will have a 15 seconds cool-down or not. That is why I left 9 points free in that build to allocate once that information is confirmed.

As for end-game, I think it is impossible to tell since there will still be more changes to the game including levels, ranks, classes, maps, dungeons, etc.

So all of those changes that might come in the future will weaken or improve some builds. In this case, we don’t know if Fencer C2/C3 will remain as some of the best options to take once that happens.

But for now, whether you want to go with Corsair or with Fencer C2, I think both are perfectly good options to follow and it all depends on what skills you like more.

Just be careful, because Sky Liner might not have 0 cool-down anymore so that aspect of Highlander might be gone in our version.

Apparently it will have a 15 seconds cool-down with 3 Overheat now. Or something along those values.

Deeds of Valor takes into consideration all your Physical Attack, so it will have effect with other buffs that do increase your Physical Attack too.

As for whether the stacks stay or not, I will get back to you on this.

Nope, Finestra is a huge part of taking Hoplite, so not using it is inefficient in a build. That is why mixing Hoplite with Fencer isn’t really a good idea.

Also, there are not any bosses that you will have to hunt by yourself. There are only quest bosses (which are easy and die fast), dungeon bosses (which are killed with your party), and world bosses (which are killed with your party and other parties around).

So in the overall scheme of things there is no need to make a build specialized around bosses. At least not for Fencer.

Why is Skull Swing not a mandatory level 5?

In the Skill Simulator in Tree of Savior Fan Base Skyliner now have 15 seconds cooldown.

My friend gonna use it on his alt. Seems legit.
Just put 3 points in cartar for attribute and 5 in skull swing for max duration. Also moulinet is multihit so worth at least 1.
And I’d put 2 more in Attaque coquille for 100% uptime, but it’s my personal preference.

Yeah I know that hop is for lancers and stuff my build will not be very good but between hop an high I prefered hop for the vulnerability of Pierce and Pierce skills are synergistic than highlander , yet even if the build is not good and I’m not getting finestra cuz I’m using rapier, the extra damage on pierce/stabbing is worth for getting hop3 or should I get corsair c1 instead?

But you said about 1 CON every 7 levels before. It’s exactly 40 at 280)

The main reason why I leave a choice of 1~5 for it, is so people take what they consider best for their builds.

If they want 10, 15, 20 or 30 seconds of Amor Break duration, it is up to them. Also taking into consideration what other skills they want to put more points into.

In my opinion it isn’t mandatory to have level 5, because overall it doesn’t make that much of a difference.

Higher duration is only really effective against bosses, which we have:

  • Quest bosses: Doesn’t matter whether they have Armor Break or not, they are easy and quick.
  • Dungeon bosses: Depends on the party composition, but most of the DPS comes from magic classes, so in the big picture Armor Break doesn’t really do much. On a party heavy with Physical Damage, then it would make a difference, but it is depending on that.
  • World bosses: Multiple sources of Armor Break and Defense reduction from all the people around. Plus again, most of the DPS comes from magic classes, so all of that combined doesn’t really require everyone to have level 5 on their builds.

For PvP, I think it depends on the focus of the build, but there are much more important things to focus on rather than Armor Break (hard CC, positioning, moving around, etc.)

Plus fights are quick in PvP and people die fast, so a short duration on Armor Break might be enough to bring the target down and after the cool-down has been used and that person is dead, then the rest of the duration and skill points just went to waste.

That is why a lower level of Skull Swing could work, as it would focus more on short fights rather than long ones, and why I think both ways are perfectly viable choices.

IF you still want to pursue this path, then Hoplite C2 will be more than enough (because you want to use Spear Lunge for the Vulnerability). So you could get Corsair instead.

It also depends on whether you want Fencer C1 or C2, because you could also get Doppelsoeldner at Rank 6 for Cyclone, which is also extremely good to bring down bosses.

I was thinking about hop3fencer2 as well, but getting 2 or 3 ranks for 2 skills is pointless. If only Synchro Thrusting worked with rapier, it would be a good choice, but now it’s just waste of skill points. Also there is no guarantee that those damage buffs will stack.

I don’t see a point of getting corsair1 for fencer as well. JR is only really useful skill in PvE, and won’t work on bosses anyway. Hook is weak in PvE and Dust Devil is mediocore.

@Cathexis

Either way, that just makes it fall more in tune with fencer, because Lunge, Skyliner and Cross Cut should all be coming off CD at the same time.
And once you get to the current end game Attaque Composee is your main spam tool anyway.
So its not THAT bad, i felt like Skyliner was broken as hell at 0 CD anyway.
and you still get HUGE DMG with a Cross Guard block into Attaque Coquille followed up by Sept Etoiles and Attaque Composee.

Speaking of that, do enemies take double DMG from highlander’s shock?

However, Preparation -> Pierce gets you some impressive dmg on bosses, but i still don’t recommend it…

@Derael

I certainly didn’t say that for fencer, thats my plan for Doppel, full STR with 1 CON every 7 levels.
Fencer could make due with much less CON, but i might still do it for the block rate and to have 20k HP

Oh, sorry then, I might’ve gotten it wrong. But I still think this extra CON may be helpful at higher levels when more magic damage mobs appear.

I’m not played kToS myself but heard that those magic mobs really hurt.

Yeah I want fencer 2, the reasoning is Coquille+spear lunge+ prep+Pierce seems good burst every 15s on world bosses and stuff. And maybe c3 fencer bring some cool skills in the future.

Its a horrible idea IMO, but do you~

Also, like @Cathexis said before, on world bosses your dmg as a swordie is going to be largely out classed by magic users AND archers actually.
hell, even other swordies will out class you with hat set up…

Building to deal heavy dmg to wold bosses is not going to lave you in the best of positions.
ESPECIALLY if your heavy hitter is on a 15 sec CD
ANY other class can out dmg you in that time frame

Oh hell yes they hit like ■■■■■■■ trucks, and it dosent help that cloth armor is 100% CRAAAAAAAAP

Alright, that looks solid enough. All that’s left to do is play around a little more with the given skill tree and just wait for the game’s release. You’ve helped me a great deal with this whole guide and your carefully detailed responses, thanks a lot :slight_smile:.

Actually, one last question… What are the recommended/must have attributes? Never bothered to pry deeper into those.

Yeah, still figuring out where to allocate the skill points. Will take your advice into consideration though. It’ll probably help out when actually getting a feel for the skills

You might consider getting HighHop instead of Hop2 , Cross Guard has double pierce damage effect as well. So you will need to change to 2H sword but not spear. And with Highlander you will get more useful skills like crown and cartar stroke.

I know it’s quite bad, but I want dps with rapier so obvious need of fencer 2, hop is the only out I got if high got nerfed. And let’s get real if I really want a min/max class for sure swordsman is not the class for that right now, high 2 hop2 looks good but I don’t know if I’ll have any use without peltasta Hehe. And hop doubles the Pierce dmg by itself with overheat.

Actually high nerf is irrelevant for fencer. You won’t use Skyliner too much anyway. I’d say 3 overheat with 2 strikes is more of a buff then nerf. You can always use Falconnade instead.

Neat, thanks. Hope to hear back.
