[Guide] Archer and You, a Guide to Fletching

Hello, I’ve been reading around the forum and I’ve seen a lot of people saying that Archers are just really under par when compared to other characters. Up to a certain point it’s true, but by no means that means they are bad, as a matter of fact, they have the best Auto Attack build in the game, that scales wonderfully with buffs.

As of now there are 3 viable builds for Archers in this game, and I will talk about their Pros and Cons. They are: Full DEX Auto, Full SPR Spells, Hybrid Melee.

Full Dex Auto
Pros:

  • Best AFK Solo Grinder
  • Best Buffed DPS
  • Good Solo Damage Against Bosses
    Cons:
  • Highly Dependent on Gear
  • Max Damage = No Mobility
  • High Use of SP Potions on Bosses
  • Dull

Full SPR Spells
Pros:

  • Good for Beginners
  • Nice Effects
  • High Burst Damage
  • Isn’t Reliant on Gear
    Cons:
  • Hard to Manage SP
  • High Cost in SP Potions
  • Worst AFK Grinding

Hybrid Melee
Pros:
-Big Crits Makes it Fun
-Lots of Damage in Party
Cons:
-Really Late Game
-Hard to Level Solo
-Squishy

So, how are the builds? Here we go:

Full DEX Auto

The way you play this:
1~15: Multi-Shot Bosses, Auto Units, Oblique Shot When Desired.
16~40: Multi-Shot Bosses, Auto Units, Grind With Kneeling, Oblique Shot When Desired.
41~75: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrow Bosses, Auto Units, Grind With Kneeling, Oblique Shot When Desired.
76~120: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrow Bosses, Poison When Needed, Auto Units, Grind With Kneeling, Oblique Shot When Desired.
120+: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrow Bosses, Poison When Needed, Vendetta Kill Units, Evasion When Needed, Use Lachrymator Against Ranged, Auto Units, Grind With Kneeling, Oblique Shot When Desired.

Stats:
Full Dexterity

Talents:
You should Max out Multi-Shot in order to kill Bosses and Kneeling Shot in order to Grind. You should also increase Leather Expertise in order to increase Evade. Max out Swift Step. Max out Zhendu. Max Wugong Gu. Max Sneak Attack. The rest is flavor.

Equipment:
Bosses:Focus your gear towards Dex > Critical Attack > STR >Critical Chance. The reason for this is that you will already have close to 100% Crit Chance with Sneak Attack.
Grinding: Focus your gear towards Dex > Critical Chance > Critical Attack > STR. The reason for this is that Sneak Attack won’t help you.

Observation:
This build works wonders with a Priest. Their Sacrament and Blessing are OP for you. Any other class that buffs you will cause you to deal a massive amount of damage. Against enemies that aren’t immune to Poison, your Poison will destroy everything.

Full SPR Spells

The way you play this:
1~15: Multi-Shot Bosses, Oblique Shot Units.
16~40: Multi-Shot Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Oblique Shot Units.
41~75: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Oblique Shot Units.
76~120: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Poison When Possible, Oblique Shot Units.
120+: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Poison When Possible, Oblique Shot Units.

Stats:
Full Spirit

Talents:
You should Max out Multi-Shot in order to kill Bosses and Oblique Shot in order to Farm. Max out Zhendu and Wugong Gu. Max Throw Gu Pot and Jincan Gu. The rest is flavor.

Equipment:
Focus your gear on SPR > SP Regen > SP > STR. The reason for this is because you need SP and a LOT of Regen.

Observation: Prepare to be SP starved, all the time. This build uses a lot of SP, so you should be careful when Ranking your Oblique Shot, you will be spamming this, so keep it at the correct amount (1 hit = 100%, 1 hit = 50%, 1 hit = 33.3%, etc). Use Heavy Shot in order to keep stuff away from you. Your big damages will come in form of Poison and Multi-Shot. This build works wonders once you hit 120, since you will have Throw Gu Pot, thus a Tank can Taunt under the poison and watch them melt. The problem with SP stops after 120+ also.

Hybrid Melee

The way you play this:
1~15: Multi-Shot Bosses, Oblique Shot Units.
16~40: Multi-Shot Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Oblique Shot Units.
41~75: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Oblique Shot Units.
76~120: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Heavy Shot When Needed, Poison When Possible, Oblique Shot Units.
120+: Multi-Shot and Twin Arrows Bosses, Spam Backstab, Heavy Shot When Needed, Poison When Possible, Vendetta Kill, Evasion When Needed, Sneak Hit When Possible, Oblique Shot Units.

Stats:
Start by dumping everything into SPR, until you have 50 points in it, then go with DEX. If you ever feel that your mana is not enough, pump some more into SPR.

Talents:
You should Max out Multi-Shot in order to kill Bosses and Oblique Shot in order to Farm. Max out Zhendu and Wugong Gu. Max out Backstab and Vendetta. Rest is Flavor.

Equipment:
Focus DEX > SPR > Critical Attack > STR. You do not need Critical Chance for this buiild.

Observations: The start of this build is the same as Full SPR Spell, but once you hit Rank 5 it changes. This build isn’t that great on it’s own, since his huge burst damage is only possible with someone who can cause Bleed. Once enemy is Bled, Backstab will proc Massive Bleed, in turn once you use Vendetta, it will cause double the damage (huge crit).

Tips and Hints:

  • Play using Mouse, it will be painful to choose your target using Tab.
  • Be mindful of your surroundings, especially against casters, you are squishy.
  • Join groups with Priests and other guys that can buff, this will increase your damage massively.
  • AH is your friend, don’t be afraid of using it to get the good stuff, spending hours farming what you need is a waste of time, unless it’s level 120 equipment.
  • Companion will be your Tank, although it’s really unreliable at the moment.
  • In boss fights, don’t get hasty, always have a lot of mana potions and kill it using Multi Shot.
  • (CBT Only) Start every build with SPR, so you can spam your spells, once you get to a good level, respect.
  • Don’t forget to talk to the Adventure Master, she gives you iCoins for every level you have in your Adventure Jornal.

That’s it, good luck for you all and have fun!

Good stuff, I like that its all detailed. Also any love for Archers is highly welcome what with all the negativity about them lately.

Incidentally, how do you deal with really mobile bosses with mobile spawns, e.g Capria? I can’t solo it for the love of me because they close the gap so quickly I don’t have time to even safely get off an autoattack let alone use multishot.

If you are Circle 2 Archer, you should be able to buy Talent Quick Charging, makes using Multi Shot almost instant. Other than that, you would have to link you build in order for me to inform you.

Rank 10 Swift Step + Quick Charging = No problem with Kiting.

Oho, I gotcha, I never got Quick Charging, that makes a lot of sense. I’m also sure I didn’t get didnt rank up Swift Step past lvl 5, so that would also explain why I’ve been having difficulties with kiting. Thanks, I’ll try those out!

Spirit on archers is great. I run 50/50 SPR/DEX on my archer > arche r> quarrel shooter with a shield and crossbow. I have more survivability than most of the party in boss fights. Oblique shot and stone shot at level one means that they cost very little SP and they both increase damage by more than anything strength will ever net you. Those 0 CD skills are a must (at level 1 and level 1 only!) for spirit builds.

My plan is archer > archer > quarrel shooter > quarrel shooter > rogue > rogue. Going to really miss out on those last five ranks of multishot and kneeling shot, but rapid fire and extra ranks of pick up stone are really going to help. Pavise is also great for some of the more annoying bosses.

Unfortunately those kind of Hybrid builds die off really quick. You will not have enough SP regen to keep the damage up and you will not have enough Evade and Crit Chance to be worth the Dex. With Kneeling it becomes worse, since you are immobile and it scales with Dex.

I’m trying Archer>Ranger>Sapper now with Dex / Str.
My output critical damage is good and with Stockades my damage is good luring mobs in it. What you guys think is better to Sapper almost Sapper Rank 2?

What time frame does ‘die off quick’ mean? I’m at fifty something in the sixty something area with more output and survivability than sixty something party members, running out of SP maybe every fifteen minutes and spending all of sixty seconds regenerating back to full.

If you are going Sapper, go all the Way, nothing beats the fun of Collar Bombing a ton of enemies and luring them together. Spike Shooter also is a huge burst damage, but the 100 seconds CD sucks.

The real grind starts 75+, getting to 75 is only a question of a couple of days, maybe a few days if you are playing slowly. Up until 75 you can just do quests. You will see your build starting to get problematic once you have to start using those 100+ SP cost skills and the damage of your other skills starts getting underwhelming. And last, but not least, after 75 the enemies start scaling like crazy.

I suppose the solution then is to pull all DEX into SPR if it really does get that bad, though looking at the numbers and doing the math I don’t think it would. I’ll let you know when I get there.

Sorry dude I just dont think archers are good as of right now…they need a major buff…no matter how I try to look at it they are supposed to have highest atk but all other classes can out dps them

I understand your frustration with the class, but there really is no need for all that sass =/

I think Quarrel and Ranger need some work, honestly. I don’t think I can recommend either one over Archer 2 right now regardless of situation. Archer 2 definitely looks and feels like a good foundation to work off of, though, as Multishot will cover all your bossing needs and Oblique with an autoattack or two to conserve SP will serve you well for non-boss. From there it’s whatever, probably Archer 3 if you’re not going to go Sapper, although I’ve found Hunter to be pretty fun.

Not very good, mind you, but fun.

Anyways, the point is just to go Archer 2 minimum, since it seems the other two options are pretty underwhelming.

Yes, Multi Shot is just too good to not max it out. No other class has anything that is better. Balance needs to be made, as of now everything starts with Archer C3.

OK guys, updated the guide, now all 3 builds are present, have fun =)

Ok wanted to ask something. Currently restarting my whole gameplay because peltasta for me was really lackluster and i am doing the dex build rn. is going for a crossbow+shield better than the 2h bow for maximum damage? or cb+shield for survivability?

You will be relying on Evade for survival, and you will need the damage the bow gives you, since you have no STR.

thanks for that fast reply. and was wondering if i should hunt for recipe sets? since npc equips tend to fall down past level 30’s from damage and survivabilities or

First set you obtain is quite easy, after the mine you will just have to kill the world boss over and over, it gives a good first advantage. Truthfully you should level in a party, that way you won’t have to focus on anything other than the bow, until your Autos start shinning.

When leveling, you will be reliant on Oblique Shot, until you have Kneeling at Level 10, but even then it won’t be great until after level 75.
