Goodbye Mr. Iwata

Today it was announced that a great general in the video gaming world died.

Mr. Iwata became Nintendo’s president in 2002, just as the Gamecube went global, and he has helmed Nintendo since that day to now. I just want to express my gratitude for such a fun and games loving CEO at the head of Nintendo, who could have even more easily been just another suit like we see from EA, Microsoft and Ubisoft every single year.

We as gamers have the unique ability to live through his work, so we can remember how he lived through the games he and his company made. Or those hilarious E3 directs he presented. The man was not perfect, but none of us are. In the end, he was a good man, with the heart of a gamer. That’s all we can really ask for.

Zelda: Oracle of Seasons was my first video game, and my favourite Zelda game of all time. That Nintendo nostalgia, love and care lives on in all their Zelda games, and I’m sure many new fans feel the same way I feel about Oracle, about Skyward or Twilight or Windwaker. Games which he didn’t over monetize and sacrificed a lot of profits to make them as fun for gamers as possible.

So I’m not going to cry or give anymore sob stories. I’m just going to turn on my game-cube and play some Melee.

Eventually everyone runs out of 1ups, but Mr. Iwata, You made it to a Damn Good Level!

I was pretty shocked as well when I heard the news :sob:. Mr. Iwata really earned my respect. Since he was a game programmer and a gamer himself, he was actually concerned about the games and us gamers as well, not like some big shots CEO who don’t give a damn about their broken games and just care about profits.
R.I.P one of Nintendo’s greatest figure :sob:

oh what a sad story =< you will be remembered mr.iwata and live long in the kingdom of games
respects paid…

Rest in peace Iwata-san, you will certainly be missed by every Nintendo fan out there. And it has been only 2 years since Yamauchi-san death, it’s a shame to see another nintendo figure leaving us so early.

Hang in there Miyamoto-san, Tezuka-san.

He is one of the people that helped to make what VGs were in most of our childhoods, let’s hope that his efforts were not in vain and things continue to get better and better in the future.

Even though I’m not really into Nintendo games now, but I respect him for all his hardwork to make my memorable childhood with Super Mario and Zelda. Rest in peace.

SSBM was the ■■■■.
And Iwata was a great CEO.
Not like those ruthless, money-hungry CEOs of other companies at all.

As someone having worked in toxic corporate environments (upper level management having no experience in what the company is actually about, completely profit-focused, etc) I really loved seeing Iwata do his thing. And how connected he still was to his roots in development and just game love.

And the only consoles/gaming devices I own are WiiU and 3DS and I’m completely satisfied with that. I just hope they can appoint someone to continue on his legacy. He can rest well now that he’s free from pain and suffering.

I believe both Miyamoto and Takeda could fill the CEO position.
But to be honest any person that works in the Nintendo environment should be able to understand what the philosophy of the company is and what people expect from the new CEO.

I think Miyamoto is too old to be the CEO now. And I’d prefer him to continue making games rather than worrying about profits and such :confounded:

Saddd… rest in peace…
