Good boss fights


I really like this fight because of the high level of activity, although the actual boss still seems slow but that party had to do a lot of running around :slight_smile:

(Post vids if you find good boss encounters to share!)

This fight was pretty simple and easy looking but it didn’t seem overly slow or like the boss was just standing there. Probably wouldn’t want any slower than this though. and he has a couple of cool abilities.

Another nice fight. On the slow side but the boss in this one has a nice flying animation when he casts his knock down attack, and he seems to hurt when he gets you!
And he looks cool! :slight_smile:

hmm high HP, but too slow, no debuffs…and he doesn’t move -.-
still looks easy for mvp
we need real challenges, hard mvps

Why do you think that fight in the vid is good? Looks like a very slow boss.

I like this other boss because of its charge attack and the parts where it moves shooting rotating lazer XD
But again, the ā€œactionā€ from the boss is so few and far between <_>… With most of the fight him just standing there…

I don’t think it’s viable to judge a boss fight purely by videos, especially when the game is in such early stages.
World of Warcraft had incredibly intense and difficult boss fights - which looked rather plain from outside. Take Reliquary of Souls, for example - the load on people who needed to coordinate which spells(cast by boss) to interrupt or reflect (which meant life and death for tanks) was enormous, the damage dealers who had to choose between dealing damage to the boss when portion of that damage was always reflected back at them - all on strict time limits was enormous - but it wasn’t a flashy fight by any means.

I don’t think it’s gonna be ā€œbaby-level easyā€ like people think. Especially archers won’t have an easy time soloing bosses (from many vids I’ve seen :sweat_smile:). And in CBT people can insta revive but in OBT you’ll have to cough up some cash to do that, or party with a priest and have him ressurrect you.

Or form a proper tank-healer-dd party and mop the floor with every single boss out there unless non-trivial mechanics are introduced. ToS is a MMORPG, so boss fights really shouldn’t be tuned towards soloing, unless the boss in question is a part of some instanced class-specific quest where groups can’t participate.

I like the idea of needing a party to take out a boss, but also remember that boss with no pants in RO? (Ninetails? I forget her name) I use to see skilled hunters soloing her, and it was pretty cool. I also think being able to solo a boss with a party lvl of difficulty is a pretty cool thing and I know that some ppl, maybe a lot of ppl like that challange. So I like the idea of needing a party. But not ā€œset in stoneā€ needing. Just maybe taking on a boss with a party might be normal mode but soloing it is legendary mode XD

Depends on how large a part of gameplay bosses are going to be. If high-end ones can be soloed it pretty much means that some if not all fight mechanics will have workarounds and essentially, all the work game designers poured into making them will largely become worthless.

If devs want boss fights to be exciting and hard they’ll pretty much have to introduce stuff like soft-enrage mechanics for example, ā€œBoss X afflicts players one by one with a curse that explodes after some time killing the player and spawning a monster from said player’s corpse unless dispelled by a priestā€ which changes into ā€œcurse that cannot be dispelledā€ at say, below 30% of it’s life - that would turn the fight into a DPS race towards the end, among other things.

Such fights tend to be more challenging, and in essence, much more fun than ā€œBring one tank, 10 Priests to heal him non-stop and 20 wizards to beat the living cr@p out the poor thingā€.

im sure theyll make the bosses fun

Yeah if the whole boss fight was similar to the last 10% of health or so I think it would be amazing.

I like this boss fight. Lots of stuff going on and the boss seems pretty tanky and at least rolls out some AoEs pretty often.

Well I think you can’t (and shouldn’t) compare boss fights in TOS and RO because the intention behind them is completely different (atleast for the early game in TOS).

And one comment I saw pretty often was ā€œOh wow that sucks you are even able to defeat that boss alone without a partyā€ and I was always like ā€œYeah you can because… well… you are actually supposed to be able to defeat them aloneā€¦ā€

Many people think of boss fights only in the WoW like instance boss fight or the RO MvP way, but TOS is different (well it was in CBT1 and CBT2 we’ll see what they changed). All boss fights that were uploaded by me were part of a sub or main quest. So they are not as special as many think they are supposed to be. There is a quest in the Crystal Mine where you have to interact with 3 objects and in one of the rooms you’ll face a boss. So the boss was only added to make the quest more fun and not to be super hard and drop epic items.
There are other boss fights that are not a quest objective and those are supposed to be harder and I’m sure once we reach endgame there will be harder boss fights anyay but people should really keep in mind that those bosses we’ve seen were never supposed to be anything like an MvP.

Boss are really good i prefer to solo them for the challenge :slight_smile: But i think too boss need more epic music when we fight them :slight_smile:

I honestly hate when people say RO bosses were hard lol. You could 3-4 man beelzebub in under 5 minutes. You could 5 man randgris(have a HP with redemptio outside of screen, tank on sw and bomb away). You can 4-5 man biolab(even less people needed if dual clienting is allowed). WM? steel body tank and asura away.
