As we are all aware, gold sellers and their bots spamming the hell out of shout is causing some serious lag and an overall unpleasant gaming experience. Just seeing MMOTANK or OKAYGOODS scrolling across the top is annoying and ugly, and puts a bad taste in our mouths. Obviously, this is something that the staff has yet to jump on, so why don’t we take action?
All of these websites have Live Chats and e-mails we can contact. My bet is that if we start spamming their live chats and support e-mails and clog them up enough, it might get our point across. These websites usually have a pretty small staff in terms of customer support agents, since most of them are based overseas in Asia and its difficult to find people with strong enough English skills to deal with customers. There’s way more of us than there is of them, so if we cause a bit of a ruckus we might actually accomplish something.Even if we only suppress the problem temporarily, its still at least something until the staff can get on a working, permanent solution to this without ruining the shout feature for everybody.
Obviously gold sellers are going to continue to exist and continue to advertise in-game, regardless of what us or IMC does, but maybe they’ll take a different approach to it if we give them enough hell and convince them that they are literally ruining this game with their current advertising strategy. A shout every 10 or 15 minutes is at least tolerable. What we have right now is 3 or 4 websites spamming every minute or so on 3 or 4 different bots… its ridiculous and is literally game breaking. I have never, ever seen so much gold spam over server-wide chat in any other MMO I’ve played.
MMOTANK seems to be the worst recently, or at least during the times I play, so I’ve been raising hell over there whenever I’m bored (sorry agents Emma and Alex
). They’ve just been telling me that they’ll stop and keep apologizing, obviously not actually stopping or slowing down. But its only me right now! If a decent percentage of the population did this, we might actually send a message - we are their target audience, after all. And you don’t want to piss off people that you’re trying to make a sale to.
My apologies if this has been suggested before, I tried doing a quick forum search and didn’t see anything similar.
