Things MyBB and phpBB have as well…except those forums are easier to navigate.
http://blog.codinghorror.com/civilized-discourse-construction-kit/ here is a blog post about forum software from the creator of Discourse when he launched the project… let’s see if some people change their opinion after they read it.
I really like these forums :3
I’m not a big fan of this forum style either.
Some things are too condensed and visually it’s kind of hard looking through past threads… Which is probs a huge factor for repeat threads.
You dont have a real question, what does “does it work properly” even mean?
Works “properly” for me. Pretty easy to use if you’re adaptable to new things.
It means does it fulfill it’s purpose as it’s supposed to.
If you buy a phone, you expect to be able to call someone with it.
A site that you can’t visit and a forum that you can’t read and write on are worthless.
Not saying that the forum is in such a state as the norm, but it’s obvious that performance isn’t the best trait of this forum when it’s so easy to bring the forum out of order just through a bit more traffic going on.
Yeah the performance seems pretty atrocious so far. Not sure if that’s to do with the forum or some sort of server misconfiguration or just hosting the forums on a congested/shared infrastructure box.
From all the sites I’ve seen use this forum, I’m guessing this is one of the highest in terms of concurrent users.
Optimization of software almost always improves over time as use cases with higher concurrent users become more the norm.
Besides that issue, it seems to everything I’ve seen any other forum do in the past 15 years or so. Some parts better, some parts a bit worse or just different.
i also dont like this kind of forum, id rather have normal ones
I’m not a huge fan. It’s fine when you start in the beginning of the thread or go view any posts since the last view, but if you want to find a specific post trying to get to the middle of a long thread is a huge pain. Trying to jump to the bottom of the page also lags and lags on slower internet connections such as mobile.
There are also parts that just don’t work well. When I reply to some one I often can’t see the little arrow that I replied to them. Likewise there are times when someone has replied to me (and is obvious by what they said or I get a notification) but they don’t have a little reply arrow and I don’t have “1 reply” below my post. Notifications are awful, they can come in 15-30 minutes after the event, if they even come in at all.
Quick note about the navigation, you can press “home” on your keyboard to get back to the first post and “end” to get to the end of the thread.
There is also a little navigation button in the bottom right that you can click on to navigate somewhere in the thread. That button also “fills up” depending on how far you are through the thread which gives you some idea of how much more there is to read before you get to the end of the thread.
you can use upper right the search button, it search for you all posts of the thread too, without opening a new window.
