A good rule of thumb is to get the single best GPU you can get within your budget. SLI/Crossfire will not always scale well with all games and in some games you get higher maximum fps but also lower minimum. This leads to stuttering and thatās very bad. With a single GPU, youāre always getting what you paid for, plus you probably wonāt have to upgrade your power supply. Iād definitely pass on the SLI 970 setup and go for a single GPU of equivalent price. Also what resolution monitor are you using? For 1080p I would not go higher than a R9 290 because you wonāt see any real gain unless you have a higher refresh rate than 60Hz. For 1440p some great choices are R9 390/390x and GTX 980. For 4k, grab yourself a Fury X and donāt look back
So howās the performance of R9 390?
Itās a beast. Mine isnāt overclocked yet but it performs a little better than a GTX 970 and R9 290x and will only get better with driver updates. Definitely worth the money if youāre a fan of AMD
