Game Pre-Release/Business Model Suggestion

Different time/period, different resources, different business model…
WoW is the most successful MMORPG, but since a decade, hopefully not every MMORPG has a monthly fee.

Would you rather have a “free-to-play”? That makes the game unfair to anyone that doesn’t spend money on it?

There are a couple of great free-to-play models out there. I’m okay with it if they do the same as Grinding Gear Studios did.

Here is a link to their shop. Nothing is pay-to-win. If you buy something, you do it of your own vanity or you just want to support the game. An actual fair model.

Do you even know what they are offering for money ?.. Do you even read the patch notes?.. Do you even? There is not a single unbalanced feature YET that would make this a pay 2 win game. Please, inform yourself before you even.

F2P will probably be the chosen solution… I hope making a mistake, because like you said, it can be really unfair (-> P2W). I’ll check the PoE’s shop later, but I heard it was good, so it can still be a good idea.

I’d rather have a buy-to-play, something like Guild Wars. It prevents a lot of F2P basic problems.

GW2 just went F2P yesterday.

But still need to purchase the incoming expansion. :cold_sweat: But hey, it’s F2P right now.

Oh really? Okay, thanks @fairyhell & @xShintot for the infos. ^^

Well, so GW2 wasn’t a good example, let’s say TESO then?

GW 2 has never had a subscription it was B2P not P2P. Guild wars 1 however did have a subscription at one point don’t know what its at now.

I don’t think there is any reason for IMC to go the early access route; the game is still in the early phase with many major changes (see class advancement) and wipes. There is a risk of people will get tired of playing the early access version and not stick for release. There is also a risk of people getting burned out waiting for the actual release if they hype it too much early on, so the current way of us not getting much, if any info at all is probably the best.

Only the base game is f2p, everyone who wants new content has to buy the expansion. So it’s a hybrid of f2p (with restrictions), premium accounts for the base game, and B2P for the expansion (new content).

With that said i do like GW2 model the initial B2P keeps alot of bots and sellers away but i suppose its to late for this discussion as they have said F2P is the plan. Also i think we need to get back to the topic of a release plan as the topic isn’t the payment model XD.

In Russia, localized korean games(Lineage 2, BDO) got 1 p2p server(with only cosmetic shop) and few f2p(with “classic” shop) servers.Works fine.

This is the part that makes me smile.
Isn’t it more like ‘best course of action for the people who just want to play’?
(Yes, I read your reasoning, it’s all over the place and seems rather much like fluff.)

I’ll save all the reasons, but let’s clarify… Blade & Soul should not be compared to Tree of Savior.
If you want to compare any game to ToS in terms of hype/burnout, it would have to be PSO2.
(ToS and PSO2 do not have any notable immediate competitors. Their target audience is almost solely dedicated to their game, whereas B&S is really just a very flashy form of tab target action mmo… and has to compete directly with the other mmorpg titles.)

@LaScoot
I have no problem waiting for the game… I just shared and suggested a successful model for them. You are being a douche not contributing anything to the topic unlike the people above. We are talking about business models, if you dont have anything good to say, please go being a douche on another post.

@TankezonE

Either you can’t read or you didn’t want to read it, I’m still discussing something you mentioned.
I’d suggest keeping your aggression down.
I did consider taking apart your entire post to tell you every possible problem…
… but you seem to react very poorly.
Everything you answer with is either rude or an attempt to find loopholes that could’ve been answered by thinking it over yourself for about 10 seconds.
(which resulted that someone, mostly FatePGN, ended up having to answer for you)

That being said, you couldn’t or didn’t want to come up with the most obvious problems to your suggestion, so I decided to only cover the part that isn’t immediately clear.
I’ll admit that I am not willing to spend any amount of time thinking on your behalf.

Before I actually start being really mean, I’ll drop this here. I didn’t see the need to discuss models.
I did however, want to point out that comparing BnS to ToS in terms of release delay/burnout is poor.
I even gave you the reason for it.

As per my respect for common decency, I will not respond to this thread beyond this.

Since I do need to keep on topic, according to you, here’s my ‘take’ on your idea.
It’s full of holes and problems. Fate has pointed out some of them.
I will contribute and clarify that most of those would be wrong due to language barriers, poor perception, rumour-mongering and whatever else I decided not to point out.
(because you can do that yourself. I may explain this if you ask in private)

Good day.

@LaScoot Dude, no offense, but you are only being a douche. All you are doing is making a clown of yourself and “offending” me. I’m not getting offended, obviously, but you are not making any relevant contribution… Or a contribution at all to the topic.

Please, be my guest and go pester another post with your “reasoning”.

It would be fine if IMCGAMES could make cash shop similiar to Tera . Where you can buy all shop items from players for game currency.
I also kinda liked p2p EQ1 server with cash shop where you could buy monthly subscription for gold.
But I hope IMCGAMES ll make one p2p server with cosmetic cash shop and the rest servers ll be f2p.

I don’t think you should treat it as a tab target action mmo, because you still have to aim to stay on target, unlike typical tab target mmos. What killed B&S for me is the way too long wait until it finally seemed to come to the West, and the complete scrapping of the first project that followed. Now they’re trying to do it again, but honestly, I have no trust, nor interest left for that game.

So as you say, ToS is different in that aspect. We know the game is coming, and we know it’s still in heavy development - worldwide. No signs of burnout for me, and I’m expecting the game to come out somewhere 2016.
