Bug Description :
Updating Windows 10 insider preview to build 14332 prevents game from being launched: patcher works fine but client fails to launch, windows event logs show the following error

all solutions available online dont help,
microsoft online support cant help.

Had to rollback to previous build to be able to play again.

Steps to reproduce the issue :

  1. Upgrade windows 10 to build 14332
  2. Try to launch the game

Note: it will try to re-install newest build some time later to see if that was an error because of corrupt installation.

###Update (May 11, 2016):
its been reported that build 14342 has same issue.

That is the risk on using insider preview versions, you never know where it will break. I stopped using it after release. I know it is nice and all, and some people might use it for research and study, but for gaming is really risk.

i’m fully aware of that. But part of using beta software is to give feedback about it. I’ve already contacted MS support and i think that letting ToS’ devs know about it too wont hurt.

Yeah i know. I am not bashing or anything, just a heads up to whoever is using insider preview, and you know that some people don’t even bother with the “INSIDER PREVIEW” part and leash out on IMC lol.

It’s unfortunate, because build 14316 has bugs with the Xinput APIs, which causes problems in some games and makes others completely unplayable. I currently have to roll back between the two builds whenever I switch games, lol.

I’m curious as to what changed that broke the game this time.

Edit: Oh, I submitted a bug report via a support ticket, and I got shrugged off as an improper download of the game and they told me to redownload.

I can confirm this, probably should’ve made a thread myself but I did report it to Microsoft and a bunch of other places. World of Tanks appears to be affected as well, and actually some other games may also be unstable due to this. Most seem fine however. Since I cleaned my old build I’m kind of in a pickle.

Oh also @ksmcneill12, 14328 fixed the Xinput issues and ToS still worked on it. Too bad I can’t find a copy of the ESD in en-GB.

@ksmcneill12 @Viscerous
thx, you saved me some time reinstalling build by confirming it wasnt a corrupt installation on my side but is an OS issue.

if you still have windows error log info saved somewhere - could you post a it or a screenshot of it in this thread? Because after system rollback my logs were rolled back as well (duh!). They may (or may not) be useful for IMC devs to find and possibly fix/find a workaround for this issue in some distant future.

Sure thing @nizidr.

Same for me, so I downgraded to build 14328.

Is there a way to directly install this build? This looks to be the happy medium which works with both of my games, but only my laptop received this update, and not my desktop.

Most recent ISO you could download directly from MS is build 14295, so for 14328 you will have to look elsewhere. I think there are plenty of sources around in internets.

Or you could download Media Creation Tool from MS and install their “stable” version based on 10586 or something.

crossposting this as another confirmation of this problem.

I can confirm the problem occurred to me as well in build 14332 and persists on build 14342, released today.

Fault seems to be ntdll.dll as mentioned by other posters.

Thanks. Added this info to OP.

Any news so far on this problem?

Well… you can try to complain to Microsoft about this one and hope they’ll fix this compatibility issue eventually.

Already have the feedback about this. But don’t know the time Microsoft will uses to fix it.

I’ve been voting up Tree of Savior related issues in the Insider Feedback Hub but no progress so far it seems :frowning:

HI i confirm 14342 to be broken tried to fix it for 6 hours to no avail ntdll.dll is the cause and more people should know before wasting time like i did heh : ).

Build 14328 for Windows 10 confirmed to work with TOS

#help

So my idea is stay on 14328 until next stable build comes out , but i doubt it will be sooner than a month time .

IMC could at least release an update to overcome this situation, or at least an explanation of what is going on.
