For what reason Laima will be overcrowded? Does Crowded = Quality?

Ok, we’re here to breakdown the question and answer,

Why do we assume Laima server will be overcrowded?

Most answer you get from people picking Laima are:
“It’s first on the list”
“I can click login right away”
“I think other people will go to the first server” - Which back to the loop.

But does that explain why, when all other servers offer the same benefit to you?

Psychology calls it 'The Primacy Effect’
I will quote from Wiki:

The primacy effect, in psychology and sociology, is a cognitive bias that results in a subject recalling primary information presented better than information presented later on. For example, a subject who reads a sufficiently long list of words is more likely to remember words toward the beginning than words in the middle.

Better understanding, given a list of items to remember, we will tend to remember the first few things more than those things in the middle. We also tend to assume that items at the beginning of the list are of greater importance or significance.

When apply to a list of words, a research show that,

Memory is sensitive to order. People are more likely to recall words (or any information) from a list when they encounter them toward the beginning or toward the end of the list, a phenomenon first described in 1913 by Hermann Ebbinghaus.

There are two separate effects of order: “Primacy,” in which people pay more attention to the first thing they read or hear, and “Recency,” in which people are (surprise!) better able to remember more recent information.

This does not always affect decision making, but it will influence them.

Well that’s enough for knowledge, now we know WHY. Let’s talk about, is crowded server = quality server?

Is China = US? They has more population?
Certainly not,
So if I go to a high-pop-server, I’m a part of the mainstream people who mostly follow ‘The Primacy Effect’ which is already explained, “the effect that make you pick decision without thinking”.
This doesn’t mean you are not a thoughtful person, but you will be a part of them and interact with them. More or less, they will influence you.
Let’s be more specific,
Who don’t have to think about what server to pick? Bots
Who will get more benefit entering a crowded server? Gold Sellers
Not to forget young people…or should I say 'kids’ who have no social skill and easy rage over internet. You will see them mostly there.

And the most obvious issue when you play on a high-pop server is Lag and difficult to manage.

“I don’t see any good thing o_O”

Well don’t let those stop you from picking Laima, because if you can ignore all that, you can still have a quality time, as high-pop server will offer the most Diversity and ‘man power’.
You will always find a party member or a class you prefer to play with. You will have many guild mates, and new friends. So why not?

And…that’s all I can answer the question from my knowing, what about yours? What do you think?
I hope I didn’t bored you with my long text. This is just CBT, just play what you like and with who you can relax with.

See you guys in-game and thanks for reading. :stuck_out_tongue:

to answer the question… no, quantity and quality are not related…

you can have a lot of jerks that make the server a junkyard or a small community of helpful souls that make the server shine and feel warm :3

you can also have the opposite and a mix of the 2…

This is is so… intelligent…

well i prefer the small and warm community

Does having 3 servers really a problem? You can just call your friends and decide on which server to play on. It’s not that hard. Also, it’s just cbt and you can make characters on each server to try your ping then choose if there are significant difference among 3. What’s with all the commotion?

Sweet read. I sincerely believe the first server will be picked because of the high population assumption. When the official release comes around, anyone who wants to make it big will always go to the more populated server (Higher party chance/ more sellers and buyers and so on, perhaps a better market)

I guess that also applies on the beta.

I usually pick the less crowded one since there’s less dispute around resources but apart from that I don’t take other social aspects into account (except for a group of friends calling me to play in a different server).

Your name is familiar @DrRM, have you played a game called “Ghost Recon Online/Phantoms” before?

By also picking the first server, there will be more materials for crafters to use. More people, more materials, cheaper items. You can get better equipment while the price is not so expensive.

^This, except that last sentence. Depending on the influx of gold into the economy, certain materials for high-tier equipment can be more expensive than the other servers, despite having a higher population. But if you’re an active player it’s usually better to stick to the 1st or 2nd server (Depending on how many there are), because in the long run, it will thrive better in the most important part of an MMO-- player count.

On the assumption that people act rationally and given the " mass psychology ", there is a tendency to try to escape of the busiest servers, so I believe the Laima not be the most populated server.

Laima isnt the most voted server

Laima is the 1st server on the list when you log in, any new player without prior knowledge will just select the first server. Laima

That number clearly show that our community is more considerable and not mainstream like the others.

There is a tendency of all think " I go to the server with less people, less lag , less ping". So called " mass psychology ".

Lots of established guilds are picking Laima, so I figured I’d head where the competition is at.

I am brazilian, and the brazilian fan sites are calling the players to play in Zemnya server for example. (Hahaha, so don’t choose Zemnya)

The forum community represents a small portion of active game population (I guess it might be sort of different here because of so many people joining the forums to get a key).

That being said, it has almost always been the case that the first server tends to be the most populated (assuming there aren’t like 20 servers, and the each server is in the same location and hasn’t unofficially listed itself as RP or anything).

That’s not to say that other servers won’t be populated, it’s highly possible that other servers can have equal population.

If ToS has a hard cap on server pop and closes character creation on a server basis that usually spreads everyone around.

Does quantity = quality? Quantity can certainly bring in more quality.

Well, my plan is to wait for the servers open and see which has the lowest ping. I do not care the amount of players on servers because I know that everyone will have a significant amount, I am concerned with lag.

Crowded = Individuals become insignificant as you can simply ditch them and find a replacement easily, promoting elitism. People also tend to behave less social as there are too many people and you can’t be bothered to speak with each and every one of them. Eventually leading to the point where barely anyone bothers to speak to strangers, making it harder for already unsocial people to make any friends.

However, those who do speak to strangers will have no problem making friends… But how good friends will they become when there’s a thousand choices? Your friendlist will clog up with people you don’t even remember existed. Eventually you’ll clean it up, deleting all those people you met, keeping the good ones but throwing the rest out like garbage.

There will be diversity, alright… Which you’ll shop through picking the ones that please you the most.

If you’re looking for friends, I suggest you go to the most populated server and see all the products available! Just don’t be surprised when they don’t recognize your presence at all. They’re just cheap, expendable things… Just like you.
