For a (maybe) returning player

Now with the holidays coming up I am interested to go back to some older games. I was wondering what has changes since march 2018. Is the game still just daily dungeons and then standing around in town? Have classes been balanced out more as of late? Community a bit more alive in game? and is upgrading gears a bit less stressful now?

Thank you in advance

I highly doubt the game will improve within 4 months when they lost the entire playerbase years ago and hardly improved at all, the lack of communication and bot patroling played a big part in reducing the players.

out of these 2k players, you actually only play with like 300-400 players probably a bit less considering most of them are either alts or bots / afk players.

i’d rather revisit maplestory or dungeon fighter online until maplestory 2 releases, many of the big guilds have finally given up and quit the game. you will just be disappointed if you return now. :tired:

Since March (not including the content update in the last week of that month) we’ve received major changes in the form of:

  • 4 New Classes
  • Daily Quest Reward Rework
  • Field Boss Reworking
  • New Endgame Equipment Set and Legendary Raid
  • Major Equipment Rebalancing in the form of Armour buff, Transcendence Rework, and Base Stat Increases
  • Gemstone Feud, a new PVP mode
  • Remnants of Bernice, a solo dungeon
  • Uphill Rework
  • Major Class Rebalancing including a Healing and Shop Rework
  • Beauty Shop
  • New Optimisation
  • Guild Territory Wars Testing, the new GVG
  • Multitude of QoL changes, bug fixes, reward rebalancing from CMs and Quests, in addition to new gimmicks and receiving stats for collecting titles

This list isn’t comprehensive, so I recommend checking out the various patch notes and dev blogs that have been posted since then. We’re on a monthly content update release schedule, we’re receiving changes quite quickly, with more major ones on the way including R10.

There has been a decent amount of more active players given the changes, though don’t expect anything too radical yet in that regard.

Equipment progression is significantly less stressful given the Transcendence rework, they reduced the shards needed to transcend while lowering the effects and increasing base stats meaning it’s easier to achieve higher Transcendence all while making it more forgiving. You’ll find 350 equipment cheaper too, especially since they increased the drop rate of Masi recipes. Velcoffer, the new legendary equipment is a bit of a wild ride, but considering it’s x2 per week per character it’s more of a silver sink than stressful.

Are those your prerequisite conditions for you to come back? Then don’t come back.

No classes will be completely balance. that is why many surviving MMO keeps releasing patches for continuous balancing. There is no way to achieve a complete balance setup for all classes in a game to 100% balanced. You need to calculate to the millisecond of the damage output for instance dot/hot versus one hit burst damage output versus frequency/cast delay animation/cool down/weapon damage amplifier factor/skill distance/totality damage output versus other uncertain environment factor versus lots of things you can’t even imagine to balance a class. Cleric has been nerfed lately if you left before this thinking this is Tree of Clerics, but that probably wont satisfy you, wouldn’t it? Archer has been buffed lately but you probably don’t think its balanced enough when you see a swordman lashing out 100k 200k damage in your face? What is balance in your world, when the class you are playing get boost then only it’s called balance? You can’t even balance to tied your shoe lace to have 100% equal length in both side. If you want a 100% balanced classes from all hundreds of class combination within swordie, wizard, cleric, archer, then don’t bother. You need a single player game where no one is holding a bigger stick than you.

Community is still lively but I am not sure what considered lively in your standard. Maybe its after you dropping the ā€œi MAYBE/MIGHT/POSSIBLY a returning playerā€ bombshell and 100 people starts rushing to a stranger we barely know telling him we are super glad you are coming back is considered lively in your world. Or people running to talk to you when you log in is considered lively. From what I know, the game is lively even with just 100 player base when you make an effort to get to know those people.

Is upgrading a bit less stressful now? Oh boy.

I think you are setting a high prerequisite conditions (3) for people to convince/massage your ideal world before you can come back. Even if we manage to tell you the classes is now completely 100% balance, community is lively with no dungeon que time, upgrading is super fun, you will probably be burned out by the end of your holiday thinking you cannot chase up in this unbalance game. What more when a 2000+ hours players welding his possibly +40 velcoffer shinning staff in your face.

For me, a player who drops a ā€œI maybe coming backā€ bombshell before he can decides if he wants to come back, is someone who needs some massages from the crowd before he can come back. And these massages requires balancing the classes to 100% balance, making easy and less stressful upgrade system with probably 100% success rate like in single player game, or at least channel 1 to channel 5 full with 100 people every day from morning to midnight. You have better luck to go make a sandwich and enjoy it till the end of your holiday.

nahh…i just quit because this stupid RNG system game…just comback 2month…trying to make masinios, done crossbow then making spear for swordman…enchance +1 day by day…my spear left 2/13 pot with +7…hurmmmm…press option, quit the game…open steam, open steam library, right click tree of saviour, delete the game…now my life is not stress thinking how the ā– ā– ā– ā–  i want to upgrade my masi eq to just +16 and transced stage 5 which cost like 50m…hurmmm…good luck if you want to comeback to this fcking RNG game

With all of these whining players, I’m quite sure, this is one of the many reason why player base keeps on dropping daily. Instead of encouraging players to come back, you guys keep on blocking their way in. Somehow, let them enjoy the game because not everyone has the same perspective.

yep, but in ToS in PVP its always cleric, in PvE its always cleric and wizard…the truth is swordman and archer is 2nd class needed…i know you said archer and swordie is good in PvE…but the truth is even in velcoffer archer or swordie not even needed…u just need 1-2 cleric with kabba3 then 3 wizard…you good to go…want archer? falc 3 then swordie…but u still need cleric and wizard tho…hmm…so yeahh maybe all MMO class is not balance but in ToS the way they balancing class is worst…from early day is always about cleric and wizard untill now…maybe when ToS dev still kid and play ragnarok he got own alot by swordie and archer lol…

lol why you even think like that, some player want to come back and want to know the progress of the game, when you start playing tho? in 2016 this game balancing is so worst, no Mdef in eq, low defend, low HP, High HP mob in high level area, fcking 5k mob magic atk for 15k hp archer or maybe 25k with some cons…and not to mention u need meta build to enter end game…and just to enhance +10 you already burned so much money for eq not to mention your attribute…if you want to compare then and now yeah its really changed alot…for maybe returning player maybe this is something they want but they doesnt know…even when i comeback iam so surprised and enjoy alot of this new changed…and you not even encouraged him to try playing yet you saying he just want some attention from crowd lol…no wonder ToS population left only 2k now.

Plenty of new crap. Gear upgrading is still an RNG nightmare that punishes whales. The game is plenty enjoyable if you don’t take it too seriously and are happy with +10-15 stuff. You don’t need anything better.

Well, can’t be help if you ask for open opinion in a forum. If you expect all nice kind words answer like the game is better now, classes are 99% balance and the we welcome you back! kind of answer as the one and only answer that you can accept and reject the opposite, then why bother asking in forum. But I get what you meant. it is those nice words that welcomes players back.

Like you, our comments and replies will differ based on the experiences we’ve encountered. I have witness a experience swordman with only +16 sword out dps a wizard with +21 staff. Both equally experienced players with routation. And to say archer and swordman is not that strong or not needed in PVP is also a debatable topic.

Nevertheless, balancing is a endless topic which even qualified programmers cannot explain/work out. Since the TS topic is ā€œis it balancedā€ and not ā€œthe details of how is it balancedā€, we can probably conclude with a simple no, it is not yet balanced 100% and skip the #(You can have a FF wiz killing everyone in PVP and the only class that can kill him was a archer/cannoner, or a experienced swordman on a 1v1 or 3v3, completely two hit/overruns you with anti personal burst skills)

i get where you are coming from from the 2016 differences versus today examples. That’s almost 2 years and more of content/patch differences. But

My comments may be harsh, but if those are the 3 main prerequisite conditions for TS to return and continue the game (seeing the difference only from March 18 till today), I am sorry to say it’s an ideal perfectionist world and you/we will not get in this lifetime.

  1. Are the classes now balanced? - No. Or it never will be. It is only perfect when the class you’re using is powerful. Unfortunately, not everyone is playing the class you are playing.
  2. Are the community more lively? - Depends on your definition. Some considers it only lively when people showers them with nice words and greetings everyday. Some considered it lively when they clashing sword and spells at one another in pvp/pve, even it’s just a small group of 50 people. Some people keep check daily how many people are there in channel 1 to channel 6, and use that number to determine server’s lively hood.
  3. Are upgrading less stressful now? - Sorry no.

First of all, you look at this from the wrong perspective.

From the lore alone we can deduce that Cleric will be the most important role both damage-wise and survivability-wise, since we’re fighting demons and their evil subordinates.
Wizard is also very important because it’s the buff tree in TOS, providing the best support and some decent damage (the support is more important, though).

Now lets look at Swordsman and Archer. What support do they bring to the table? Nothing.
They are all useless, even Appraiser and Falconer.

All they bring is damage, which requires ± buffs/debuffs by other Swordsman/Archer Classes to be efficient.
Such selfishness in partyplay is stupidly retarded.
In fact no selfish build should be ever allowed in any party as a buff/debuff that improves the performance of the whole party is way better than just putting a troop together that has selfish builds all over the place and is kept alive by a crooked support build.

So, as Cleric and Wizard are strong by default through lore and ingame compatibility, so are Swordsman & Archer weak by being incompatible with Cleric & Wizard.

And by the way, there are a lot of MMORPGs that have twisted game logic that makes Swordsman/Archer the strongest by default. I’m happy that it isn’t that way in TOS.

That fact proves that not all the design in this game is faulty, and in fact it proves that the developers think about their choices more than one might think they do.

May the goddesses be with the Clerics forever to stand at the pinnacle they deserve but never are awarded with in all the trash games out there.

Queue already gave you a nice overview about the many things that changed in the last few months.

You can also read the Developer’s blog (https://treeofsavior.com/page/news/?c=31&n=1) in the news section for more info. There have been around 20 updates since March 2018 about game updates. Many of them are already in-game and some of them are still to come.

If you exepect a completely new game, you’ll be dissapointed. If you expect an improved game, you’ll be pleasantly surprised and midly optimistic for the future.

You can also decide to just listen to the naysayers in this thread who devoted all of 15 seconds to bundle their real-life frustrations into a 2 line reply without giving you a conrete answer.

Posting walls of text doesn’t automatically make your answer ā€œconcretā€.
Thread starter did ask a couple of fairly precise questions.

Is the game still just daily dungeons and then standing around in town?
Yes. Daily chores then idling in town, reading the guild chat if you are lucky to have one.

Have classes been balanced out more as of late?
No. They introduced more new classes and announced even more skills for Rank 10 which just makes things even less balanced. Whatever they call ā€œ'balanceā€ is just random changes they apply randomly to random classes without any kind of logic. They just shift things around aimlessly.

Community a bit more alive in game?
Enjoy while it lasts. We just had a major update now so we’ll have a bit of activity for a couple of weeks.
Population in march reached an all time low with a 2332 peak and 1360 average players. Now with this new update we are at 2560 peak and 1536 average.

Is upgrading gears a bit less stressful now?
No. It’s still the same absolutely soul-crushing RNG bullshit.
Transcendence was never stressful and shouldn’t even be mentioned here.

For all other changes, it’s one step forward… maybe not two, but definitely 0.5 steps backward.
The same people have been forcing this ā€œoptimismā€ thing for a long time. Every time there’s a new patch they are all so optimistic and yet… it just doesn’t work. The population stats don’t lie. Because the core of the game is still the same. The core issues are the same as they were since beta.
They keep ā€œreworkingā€ things but it does nothing. Before we were eating feces off the floor, then they gave us a chair and a table and now we have even more ā€œquality of lifeā€ features such as a plate and even a fork and a knife!
But in the end of the day, we are still eating feces.

owh so you saying if you are archer and swordman lover just go delete this game and play other game that have OP swordman and archer?

mann, are you only play ToS as MMO? cleric is one of important role in most of MMO…most of MMO high level dungeon always have fcking 1slash k.o…not to mention how important of heal is for MMO…how the fck you saying cleric/healer never been awarded in trash games out there? even trash game like RO2 healer is important.

dude just because you love playing as cleric/mage does you think all people like cleric and mage…some people like heavily guarded char, some people like full tank char, some people like ranged play…that why there are so many archer and swordie out there…if you want just wizard and cleric in the game then told IMC just to remove archer and swordie because their role is limited…

that is what so wrong about ToS, that why i said tho those ToS developer got own by archer and swordie in the past and decide to make cleric and wizard OP in ToS…

A good MMO system is they utilized every class and job, even trash RO2 done a good job in that system…where swordie tank or dps is really needed, healer as support and heal, archer or wizard as full DPS…without swordie to aggro the boss most team cant do a ā– ā– ā– ā– , without healer all party member die, without archer and wizard boss cant be defeated within time limit…that is good MMO fighting system…but in ToS, who need swordie to tank when you can have 2 cleric to tank and 3 wizard to do the damage…this broken system make swordie and archer class less important, but they still viable in PvE with good eq and weapon.

i did stay with this game a while because i hate to try and learn MMO over again and have nothing to play, and also i did love how the game was design…but the party fighting system is so broken then or now.

again i said this, those developer is selfish and got own by swordie and archer in the past…who the fck just thinking about 2 class when like 50% people love swordie and archer…those are money to company, why you want to lose 50% of player when you can attract those 50% player who love playing swordie and archer…how many people has quit in the past because their favorite char swordie and archer has less role in ToS and rarely needed in end game party.

The answer is easy: why did you leave the first time? If it’s a core feature you didn’t like, then you will probably not enjoy the game after so few months have passed. Otherwise, here’s a list of what I consider improvements over the past few months:

  • new content (classes, solo dungeon, PvP dungeon)
  • way less freezes/dcs/desynchs
  • playerbase slowly rising up in numbers again

Basically an old player will probably not enjoy the latest changes as much as a new player would do.

exactly how all my swordie/archer friends have quit because it was a wizard/cleric infested game :tired:

Honest talk, that sounds like the most retarded excuse to quit.
Don’t blame it on clerics lol, they just didn’t want to play.

I guess it was sarcam.

The mmorpg in general is a very fickle bunch. Everything they don’t like is either the worst thing in the world or p2w. They search for the most ridiculous of excuses to badmouth a game when they get killed in pvp, see someone being richer than them, or have a channel crash every once in a while. It’s almost a mirror of the real world where everything is ego driven and everyone is outraged over the smallest of things.

I have no idea where you get the impression that I want the classes to be 100% balanced from. I said ’ balanced out more’ not 'completely balanced out.

Second regardless of the may/might/possibly/probably never or whatever I put there should not be a factor for giving your opinion. Ever since it’s heavily opinionated.

I didn’t ask anything about new weapons or velcoffer. Nor anything that would incite comparing damage to someone with said weapon. ā€˜Upgrading is super fun’ doesn’t seem to answer anything either.

I am not sure where you got this impression from but you seemed to have missed the mark on all of my questions.

But thank you for your time and effort for writing a reply. Have a good day.
