I’m in top 10 and for the past hour I had only 5 matches, compared to 10+ when I was in a gutter. Is this on purpose? Another brilliant idea of how to make the player suffer?

Defending rank-based matchmaking? No ■■■■. Every game for the past decade has used it. If you want to challenge lower level characters to duels you’re more than welcome to.
Rank based? You are mistaken, I still get matched with people from all the ladder, even with no rank whatsoever. So your poor hostility is misplaced.
Yes, All they do is sit around in their comfy chairs with a cigar like bond villians and discussing “I ask, fellow developers, how can we make our players life more miserable? ‘evil laugh’”. You got it
I think the game tries to match you with people of similar rank. If it can’t do it perfectly, it throws a few randoms in. Kinda like instance dungeon queues. That would explain the long wait times and unranked people you’re seeing.

I sit in top 10 and suffer same thing last week as well.
Rank is relevant in MM. MM bias toward high rank as I always see several ALL STAR members in top 10 in every fight either on your side or the other side. Although MM randomly throws in few random player time to time.
If there were thousands of players, I think the matchmaking would be more accurate and faster when it comes to matching by rank like what popular MOBAs do.
Unfortunately, TOS lacks the number; not everyone joins TBLs at the same time; level difference between players.
Rather than making us wait for possibly 10 or more minutes for that perfectly balanced match, the system just throws in randoms to try and balance things. This is why it feels like you need to be lucky too to get in a good team.
Im currently #7 for this week and the only problem I see is that I’ve been getting matched with unranked players… I should be going against top 10,20, 30 players but i’Im not. It is very unfair to those who are actually going against players that are equal or better players. That’s the only problem I see that needs to be fixed.
Also, I’ve never had to wait for more than 5 minutes for a game… Just bad luck for you I guess?
