FencerTank Question (peltasta c2 necessary?)

So I have been leveling with the intention of being a fencer/tank and after doing some reading in between grind sessions (currently I am 2/3rd of the way through peltasta c1) I have been wondering: is there any wiggle room in the supposed “best” fencer tank build?

If you dont know the build I am talking about it is this one:

basically I can understand why anyone aiming to be a “tank” would want to get rodelero c2, since slithering seems real big. What I cant really understand though is the need for peltasta 2, more swashbuckling seems fine but I have heard a lot about the rest being meh, umbo/rim blow even with the buff from high guard give out sub par damage and high guard itself kinda doesn’t wow

So my question would be, could I get rid of peltasta c2 and replace it with something else and still be tanky enough? and if I do then what do you think would be a good idea to replace it with? maybe something like barbarian to make it so i can maybe do more damage?

Am I just sweating the small stuff too much? I did plan on being a tank but i’d like to feel like i am contributing more than just being an aggro meatshield, id like to do decent damage too, is this build perhaps not for me?

Going to just give this a bump since a ton new threads got made and im getting real close to having to make a decision!

Oh I forgot something, if it turns out that I DO have to stick with the above build plan to be a fencer tank I would like to know 2 things:

  • can I take rodelero a lil early just for the sake of variety? (basically go Sword1>pelt1>rode1>pelt2>roder2>fencer>fencer)

  • I still dont really understand what people mean when they say go for a 1:3:2 build for fencer tanks? does that mean every 6 points I put 1 into str, 3 into con and 2 into dex?m or that I need a ratio of 10 str for every 30 con and 20 dex?

Yup, this works just fine

Either or, the second one you’re just looking at it in terms of every 60 levels instead of every 6 @. @;

First things first, you can’t take Rodelero at rank 3, it’s a rank 4 class. :stuck_out_tongue:

Alright, so as someone who’s currently playing this build (I’m only Pel2 though) I’d like to say that taking Highlander/Barbarian likely won’t add much, especially late game as you’d have only taken one circle. You CAN do it, there’s just almost no reason, due to it falling off and most of your SP is actually gone after one rotation of your skills.
And as for the Highguard specialty attributes, they actually increase the damage of the skills. (Beyond using them in a standard fashion) Also consider that it’s far easier to work in Umbo blow’s bonus damage after blocking an attack.
Swash buckling is almost certainly enough at level 5, if that’s any consolation.

As for stats, what I’m doing is 1/3/2 STR/DEX/CON, so every six levels I get 1 STR 3 DEX and 2 CON. (Trust me you won’t need the extra CON from 1/2/3 STR/DEX/CON)

Basically if you want to one hit mobs, don’t take this build, if you want to be a bit beefier than you can’t go wrong. (Also lots of CC )
I’d like to point out, I haven’t had any trouble with bosses, and grinding is in general pretty smooth just because you have swash buckling. (Careful of pulling too many magic mobs though)

The skills in the build are debatable (They look like the ones posted in Autentist’s thread, not that it’s an issue)
I don’t think Highguard level 3 is worth it, attaque composee doesn’t seem that useful compared to the others, Shield push is awful, Attaque Coquille has 100% uptime at level 4 and I did Shield shoving over Shield Bash because cooldown is a lot shorter.

Ah dang!, oh well then. I think I will take your advice and stick with that build (and see about switching some of the skills around a bit). If I want to be a big ol damage dealer I will just mess around with leveling another character (was planning on eventually trying a musketeer build later then anyways) thanks for the help!

First you’re going to make a tank, then a musketeer? Sounds like we might get along…

As you can see, I’ve planned the same.

Haha! no joke, I was actually looking at a similar build for the musketeer. Might just have to try this build as well when I get around to it!
