[Fencer] non-tank build questions

I’m trying to create a build for damage and it’s capable of holding its own on pvp. It doesn’t need to be the best of any world, just fun, viable and not a pain to level.

I’d really like to have Corsair in my build, but the only reason is Hook and Keel Hauling, but I don’t know if it’s worth it.

I’m not giving up on Fencer c2.

So far I’ve got
Sword c2 - Barb c2 - Corsair c1 - Fencer c2 (the one I liked the most)
Sword c1 - Barb c3 - Fencer c2
Sword c1 - Highland c3 - Corsair c1 - Fencer c2

Peltasta imo is just annoying. I really don’t like it neither have a good time leveling one. Probably I could roll one if I took it at rank 5, but nah. I’ll only take it if It’s really needed.

Well, option two isn’t possible, yet. Not enough ranks.

Option 1 seems to be gaining popularity and works well. Hook chain and let your team mates go ham, or Hook > Keel Haul > Stun > Cleave is a great PvP combo. With Fencer C2 you’d gain more Evasion as well from Lunge and/or Esquive, plus leather armor. I know this is a PvP char but you’d gain 18% evasion increase from Guardian in Pelt C1. Restrain with just C2 Swordie isn’t that amazing, though not horrible by any means considering your attacks are quick and successive between Fencer skills and Corsair’s Dust Devil. There’s nothing else Swordie 2 really offers though besides longer Pain Barrier, maaaaybe Pommel Beat, and maybe Thrust for Bleeding, but eh. Definitely do not drop your Rank 5 circle for a Rank 2 one though, by no means worth it.

So, if Pelt is completely out of the question, I think Highlander is better. Skyliner and Crosscut for bleed + we may get an improvement on the former via animation some day. Armor Break from Skull Swing. And considering most of the skills are slash type, Lunge at 10 could give you some really hefty damage.

Oh, my bad. I’ve fixed the second build now.

I’m reading everywhere that swords really need Pelt c1 to use SB, but I prefer to go solo than building my char in a way that I don’t like and don’t have fun.

I’ve seen people saying that Corsair c1 isn’t worth it. I should take c2 or leave it alone. I’m taking it mainly for hook - keel, is there a better option?

That opens the 2nd or 5th rank for me.
Sword c1 - Something - Something c2 - Something else - Corsair - Fencer c2

I don’t know if it’s better to have:
Highlander c3, giving up Sword c2
Highlander c1, Barb c2
Sword c2, Barb c2

or just drop the corsair and go Barb c3, opening the second rank

Corsair C1 > Fencer C2 is really good to be honest for the reasons I named above. Not only hook, but Jolly Roger 5 is a blessing for party damage and farming solo or with a party alike. Dust Devil is a nice, under rated circular small ranged AoE, that also works well with Lunge since it’s Slash type.

As for Highlander, I’d go to 3. It’s honestly really nice for PvP since you gain bleeding skills and Cross Guard giving you a boost with pierce attacks. I have a preference for Barb myself as I am one, but as you said you should play what you find fun. Barb or Highlander will both work well. Not a huge fan of Barb C3 on Fencers however, you get Pouncing which is great for bosses if that’s what you wanna do end game, a bit of a better Seism, but Frenzy only stacks with auto attacks.

I suppose it’s all preference as you’re on the right path any way you go since you already have down what syncs.

Which one should have a better time
Highlander c3 or Something (maybe even highlander c1) + Barb c2

Hmmm, I don’t see why it couldn’t work, and at least Crossguard would bolster your Fencer pierce attacks later. If it was me though I’d be more inclined to take H3 rather than just 1.

So HL c3 over Barb c2 is a good idea?

The Stun+Cleave combo seems too good to give up. But I have no experience on that level yet.

for pvp you should up to
sword man c3 > rodelero c2 > fencer c2

since this build can counter both magic and physical attacks

fencer the class itself is an evasion tanky type so you can’t do much dmg like other dps/burst dmg class but you can counter most of physical attack class

with rodel c2 and silthering you can also counter magic attack as well and have enough cc for an lock combo

Stun + Cleave is great, and again, I’d say preference.

Hoan also makes an excellent point that with Rodelero you will have more survivability, but you will also end up tanking more, lol. Really great for PvP though.

I know I won’t be hitting like a Doppel or a Dragoon, but DPS’ing as a Fencer is what I want anyway.

I’m not full-focusing on PvP, I just want to hold my ground if needed. aka: not being a meatshield

actually if you want to pvp you will need at least 200 dex and around 20k+ hp so your str will be a small number. Without some tool such as restraint, hook, silthering you will have a very hard time in pvp too.

fencer itself already have 2 mode to switch
rapier + dagger which have passive to increased dmg and
rapier + shield which can have more tanky with block and def

but in general i think fencer is a more pvp class, so you should focus on pvp and being so so in pve is fine
