Fencer buidl: Is C2 necessary?

Hey, I’m currently thinking of going fencer, but I don’t know if its worth going C2 or not. If not, I was thinking of going Pelt>Barb 2 >corsair 2> fencer.

From what I’ve seen while searching around, the only real reason of going fencer C2 is Prep, lvl 10 lunge, and lvl 10 sept etoile.

Prep doesn’t seem all that useful, since the damage boost is only on the first hit, and sept etoile damage can be remedied with Hexendropper. Lunge however, seems very important, providing an extra 50% evasion.

So is C2 Fencer really necessary? And if so should I still take a circle of Corsair, or just go Barb 3?

It is not necessary.

It could be in the future when Fencer C3 is released and depending on what it offers then that would make C2 a better option (or if they make C2 better).

But in the current state of the game, Fencer C2 is generally weak as it only offers you Composee as another 0 CD option with Pierce damage. Other options give you more offensive skills or tools to use.

Right now, there are other options that are stronger than Fencer C2:

  • Fencer->Doppelsoeldner
  • Fencer->Shinobi
  • Corsair C2 -> Fencer
  • Barbarian C3->Fencer->Corsair C1 (PvP)

So I would say that currently it would be better to pick something else besides Fencer C2, but I can’t guarantee that it will stay that way in the future (as anything could happen, to be honest).

Thank you for your input, so what would you think would be better if I was looking for something something that did well solo, but wouldn’t pull a team down?

Your original plan of barb2->corsair2->fencer is sound. It’s that or barb3->fencer->doppel really. People seem to advise against barb2 but it’s really your only option for filler if you’re going sair2->fencer.

The alternative to barb2 would be hop2, and I imagine spear lunge->hexenx2->spear lunge->swap to rapier->sept etoile would be powerful but you’re having to swap every time you want to spear lunge which would probably get tiresome.

But I agree fencer2 isn’t particularly amazing and is mostly if you’re banking on fencer3 bringing something useful. My fencer is pelt2->rode2->fencer and going into templar next rank, just because that one rank of fencer is so powerful.

All classes offer a sort of “play” style that you roleplay into (obviously some are more effective than others).
Fencer C3 is obviously coming with r8 and if the fencer archetype is what you enjoy you may wish to take the C2 to continue on that path when r8 comes (which shouldn’t be too far off given the rate of quest additions in KTOS).

Otherwise if you’re looking just for performance “right now” for Rank 7, then you can avoid it.

So whats the difference between the Corsair build and the doppel build?
Single Target VS AoE I’m assuming. But is one objectively better than the other?

Prep+Etoiles is fun, and both have close cooldowns so you can use them together most of the time. Yes, I risked taking Fencer C2 waiting on what Fencer C3 would look like. Composee is also very powerful once you get that attribute maxed.

It’s also fun to bully low level bosses for your solo runs.
Here’s how it looks like with sh1t tier gears and all damage attributes at 0%.
They’re at 0% because I’m still deciding :<
