Feedback: Skill descriptions

Greetings,

I’ve been working on the SKILL.tsv file to iron out the mistranslations, typos and errors on Github. While this is still a work in progress, I’ve discovered another big task to accomplish good readable skills and descriptions. Which is moving around the original Korean text, because currently the tooltip where it says what the skill does is a mess. It needs to be cleaned.

However, there are currently two ways (possibly more) of laying it out:

Unfortunately, at this moment I cannot do anything about “X Level” since that is a coding issue.

Which option do you prefer and would like to see it ingame? Please give me your feedback.

Well technically both are fine since it does hit those number of times and they are attacks but I think “Hits” (#1) is better because “Attacks” sounds like it’s going to move to attack an enemy instead of just dealing damage to them.

I like the second one more, makes the reading flow. Just be careful with the plural on words:
1 fire wall;
2 fire walls

P.s: there’s no mistake and i’m just saying, those details can be annoying :c

Unfortunately both are not possible. It is either “Fire Wall” or “Fire Walls”, though it is possible to change it to “Fire Wall(s)” . It depends on the player if he or she wants to increase the skill level, meaning the amount of Fire Walls you can have will increase.

IMC really needs to expand skill descriptions there is a lot of information missing form them that’s important.

I’d go with #1, but:

  • “Number of tiles: 1” instead of “Firewalls: 1”, the whole thing is a fire wall, else people might confuse it with being able to cast x fire walls at the same time.
  • “Number of hits: 6” instead of “Number of attacks: 6”, as @Garrnett said “attacks” sounds more active, kind of.

#2 is nice as well, but has the problem of inflexible number. Personally, I don’t like the look of “Fire Wall(s)”

I choose number 1, simple and informative.

Translators shouldn’t change the arrangement without a discussion with the author. You need to ensure the cultural or linguistical differences are really of higher significance than the original intentions.

The descriptive style also doesn’t fit with static attributes and simple values. While people end up reading the tooltips several times in full they don’t want to spend a lot of time on them initially, especially if it doesn’t seem necessary. Then, as you progress you use them as a reference and you don’t want to search for a value every time.

Yeah #1. Agree with these @Soukyuu’s comments as well.

The first one has the advantage of reading left (description) to right (value), which feels better.

I prefer #1 It’s concise !!

The second option just looks and reads way too casually… It feels amateur. :no_mouth:

meh looks like that your post doesn’t mean the tooltips with lacking data will be fixed. but thanks anyway.

I’d not use that purple [Magic], [Fire] words, i’d use icons. More styled.
I like de #1.

Could you elaborate?

I don’t think IMC will change that since it is part of the text that belongs to the description. :frowning:

when i played the ICBT i found several skill descriptions lacking data about stats and damage… it was just a description of what the skill does and this description was written twice.

Please don’t forget we’re merely translating the game. If you want IMC to change that part to display icons instead, then you should post it as a suggestion in the appropriate section of the forums.

option 1 is better imo. it seems easier to read when comparing numbers from 1 level to the next.

I understand. I don’t know what happened to it causing not to show any data, but it’s currently a work in progress. You will see improvements once the next beta goes live.

No. 1 looks nice except for the “Firewall: 3” which I think needs to be changed into something like "Number of Firewall: # "
