Feedback from a Falconer :bird:

This will include feedback about my entire class build.

Class build:

  • Archer-Ranger-Ranger-Ranger-Fletcher-Falconer

Planned Skill Build:

Stats Build:

  • I was 1:1 SPR:DEX until 100+ when I felt like it was falling off for my class buiild and I ended up switching to a 3:1 DEX:STR build which has been just great so far. Mana is such a struggle early on even with pots so having SPR for oblique shot (which is the majority of what you’re doing) is too good to pass up. Later it seems to fall off, my damage in the 90 dungeon was cry worthy with an SPR build as a Ranger, when I swapped to STR I noticed a difference, even just a minor one. Overall I think if you’re struggling in the damage department with Archer classes the go-to reason is either you need a better weapon/ a more upgraded one, or you need to invest more in attributes. Attributes make such a huge difference in damage never forget to keep up with them or you’ll notice the struggle.

Archer:

  • I went 1:1 SPR:DEX during this time so I could spam Oblique lvl1 to my hearts desire. Leveling was extremely fast and easy, I farmed 500 Hanamings for the black hair in half the time any of the other classes take to farm 500. Multi Shot was really nice damage against bosses, I still max it at 5 and use it in my skill downtime when I can. Because I didn’t go Archer c2 Swift Step is very useless to me, I have it on my bars but I rarely use it at all, if ever. Full Draw was the obvious choice not to get, it’s too much wasted time charging for not enough pay off in my opinion. I just figure I can do probably twice the damage it deals in that time just spamming oblique shot.

Archer-Ranger-Ranger-Ranger:

  • Everything from Archer still holds true here, you still end up spamming Oblique shot for the majority of the game so I wont write about that in the later points, just remember that Oblique is pretty much you’re auto attack. even at just rank 5. As a Ranger you quickly notice that Barrage trumps all in the first two circles, High Anchoring is just another Full Draw in my opinion, wasted time charging for not enough payoff so I completely skipped out on getting it, although the 5 points in Critical Shot could be allocated to High Anchoring if you were really feeling your charge time oats. I however don’t live that life. Barrage is an insta-max for me and one of my highest invested attributes to date. Steady Aim seems like a debuff at first, but with more points it’s just a full on buff, 1% attack speed- is barely even noticeable, so max away for bonus damage which visibly makes a difference in your damage output while active. Time Bomb Arrow is really horrible, 40 sum sec cool down for damage equivalent of like two or three obliques is not worth in my boat, I read it does 50% additional damage to plate armored targets which could be a good single target boss filler but meh. I was hoping that Bounce Shot would turn out good, but it’s actually very weak and a mediocre AoE filler at best, most times I don’t even use it. Finally to make Ranger seems more than just BARRAGE (which it really is) you get Spiral shot, my best single target damage dealing ability from all my skill kits including Fletcher and Falconer. This skill hits so hard it’s crazy, it chunks bosses, it 1 shots hard to kill mobs, most pvp I’ve done nobody survives it. If anything is to make you stick with Ranger to c3 it should be Spiral Arrow.

Archer-Ranger-Ranger-Ranger-Fletcher:

  • Fletcher looked so appealing at first glance you don’t know how excited I was to get Crossfire which in the end turned out to deal so little damage and scale so poorly I dropped the skill entirely off my build because it’s so useless and not even worth the mana. Barbed Arrow is Amazing, it’s like baby Spiral Arrow but unfortunately is nullified on spirit type armors, like ghost mobs and stuff. I went Bodkin for the physical defense debuff, I pop it before my Spiral>Barrage damage burst. I ended in 5 points Broadhead strictly because Crossfire is trash, if they fixed Crossfire to deal real AoE damage I would reconsider but as of right now Fletcher is not the 1 circle wonder I was hoping it would be. If I were to pick something else for Rank 5 I would choose anything else, Fletcher c1 doesn’t seem that great.

Archer-Ranger-Ranger-Ranger-Fletcher-Falconer:

  • Falcon doesn’t work like normal AI, needs to be summoned between each skill.
  • Skills can’t over lap erasing single classes synergy with its own skills.
  • Call 25s cd sux, but not so bad since all the other cd’s are crazy worse.
  • Perch’s Range sux and you have to wait for the bird to sit for you to cast again.
  • Circling would be nice if you just popped it like a normal aoe debuff and the bird didn’t have to be stuck in animation for the debuff to apply.
  • Hovering is pretty much the bird’s auto attack and the fact that the attacks are single target and not small scale aoe splash damage makes this skill suk but there’s nothing else.
  • Pheasant is the best skill in the kit but even then the cool down is horrid.
  • Hanging Shot is a movement speed buff at best, only auto attacking makes this skill useless.

I guess I’m mostly annoyed since it’s just a c1 class atm, there should be flaws atm. But yea I have high hopes.

Hopes for changes in Falconer, Dream SUGGESTIONS of change:

  • Make the Falcon stay with the Falconer if you’re going to keep the cool downs moderately long. There is no reason I should need to call him to my side every 25s if I also have to wait 1min, 1min40s and 75s just to cast my abilities.
  • Remove Perch, it’s a cool idea but it’s just clunky and wouldn’t be necessary if the Falcon was with you all the time.
  • Make Circling a debuff that is popped and consistent with or without the Falcon in animation. Allow this debuff to continue after commanding the Falcon to preform a different ability.
  • Hovering, just make this a passive where the Falcon just focuses on hitting whatever the caster is hitting. You can remove the knockdown effect if it balances the ability a bit more, but even the single target damage would be nice.
  • Pheasant is really great damage, AoE the biggest problem is the cool down. If it was reduced it could easily fill as the best/ (almost only) current damaging skill in Falconer.
  • Hanging Shot, allow the synergy of letting the Caster use Falconer abilities while in Hanging Shot. Allowing us to command the bird to Pheasant down on something while being carried or having it auto attack what we’re auto attacking as well would actually turn Hanging shot from just a vroom-vroom ride to a skill actually worth putting points into for duration.

Every change you pointed are direct buffs to the class. Isn’t it a bit biased? I know balance is hard and most of people just can’t even figure the most basic of it but at least give it a try. Viewing every other class as OP and yours as the weak one isn’t the right way.

1- Circling limits your bird because if the AoE debuff is relevant the skill gives a great support to you and your party. Also you’re complaining about the Cooldowns of other skills. Isn’t it good to use Circling and the time your bird is just circling to fill up the blankets of your cds?

2- Perch is just an amazing concept. Bad execution. The skill should give the advantage to keep the falcon by your side by letting it rest on a safe place instead of flying forever in your head like it was RO. The skill should just get adjusted to provide advantage when used.

3- Pheasant you said the skill is good but again your suggestion is another buff. No comments on this one.

4- Hanging Shot really needs some work, maybe making certain skills available, maybe aspd or critical buff.

5- Hovering forever would break Perch and make the class look retard like Hunter in ragnarok with a bird flying forever in your head. Right now we have real falconer thematic and good animations for this class lets try to not ruin it. Also making the skill castable and the area marked ads on the skill needed for execution and the cooldown management.

I’m just giving suggestions for things that would make each skill better in general, I wasn’t exactly suggesting that ALL of those things would be the ONLY way that Falconer would be good. I’m saying; right now with skills the way they are the only skill in the entire class that’s worth anything is Pheasant and it shouldn’t be that way. Even though I’m saying that Pheasant is the best skill for the class I’m not saying it’s perfect. I’m telling you that I’m rank 6 and Barrage my rank 2 first Ranger skill does more damage and is a better AoE than the entire Rank 6 Falconer class. I was expecting more, I did grind 20 hours to get to Rank 6 I want to be rewarded lol. Not still feeling like my Ranger skills out damage all of Falconer.

1- Falconer isn’t a support class though, so why am I supporting when I chose a dps class… Also, the duration is 10 seconds you think 10 seconds will fill the void of 1min and 40 sec cd? xD Yea it’ll fill SOME void but not even close to the majority. This skill will last nicely for 1 mob set when I’m grinding and then be on cd for 75sec so lol.

2- I think Perch would be fine if the bird moved more quickly to the perch also.

3- It’s the only skill in the whole tree that’s worth my time DPS wise. Let me clue you in that Falconer is a DPS class, the class icon is red not green it’s not a support it’s not a defensive class it’s a damage dealing class, why is the only viable damage skill on a 1 min cd. Also it’s scatters the mobs completely and ruins AoE’s for other party members so. I said it’s the best skill in the kit not that it’s a great skill. Is asking for the only viable damage skill in a damage class to not be on a 1min cd really asking that much?

4- I saw in a video that this was being using while the bird was auto attacking, so I think that the bird not autoing is a bug but who knows. It was an outdated vid after all. Right now Hanging is nothing more than move speed for me.

5- Perch is already p useless so I don’t see the point. That’s why I suggested just get rid of perch in general, the range you have to stand for Perch to stay active isn’t even realistic for actual gameplay IMO, unlesss you’re a tank machine against what you’re fighting or you dodge everything. Which is possible but not 100% likely. Or it would look like a classic hunter like the current hunter in this game. Casting 1 skill and waiting 1min+ to cast it again not even being able to cast a different skill for 25s because of Calls cd? 25s between mediocre skills and waiting 1min+ to recast mediocre skills? Or getting perch and staying in it’s short range that isn’t even visible whilst waiting for your bird to sit down before you cast another skill and if you do so too early it goes on cd that’s long af.

Go play Swordsman classes like Highlander and Barb and then come back here to talk about asking for too much.
Ranger has 2 skills worth my time, Fletcher has one and it’s useless vs Ghost type armor, Falconer has one and it’s on a 1min cd. If you can’t see the issue then you never will, there really isn’t another class in Archer that can cover what Ranger brings btw unless it’s in Rogue or SR which I haven’t played yet. I just don’t think a Rank 2 class skill should be trumping a Rank 6 skill let alone the entire class.

your call falcon is at 25CD because your attribute (Obtain) is switched on. Off it and you get 15secs cd on your call.

this thread is from CBT lol…
