Extend the Beta

I would like to petition to increase the length of this Beta due to the amount of downtime.

Not everyone is able to play as much as they’d like and a lot of players end up missing out on playing as the outages, errors, and disconnects may largely occur during their limited time windows.

Less playing means less progression, less experience with the title, more complaining, and less opportunity for testing. The market and chats failing every day after a few hours doesn’t help matters either as players are finding it more difficult to get assistance with questions as well as with funding their adventures, and character, without a viable way to get rid of their more rare items.

I feel that, as the LA server is getting an extra week, that it isn’t unreasonable to get an extension across the original servers as well. In our first week we have made mistakes with characters as well as learned how to do it better next time; in the LA server they received that same week of game experience on the original servers except now those who have elected to move are now able to easily progress through their first week without such trouble. In short the point I’m making is that LA’s one week bonus will translate into better progression overall as well as the fact that they don’t have to stop to report every issue as chances are it has already been reported and even likely that they themselves made the initial report.

For our downtime I ask that all servers to be granted the extension period. To those who argue that our extra week would then be unfair to the LA server who started a week later, I offer the fact that our own first week level average across the board is 80 where as the LA server will likely be 120 given their prior knowledge going in, and even if the server-up time is one week greater than the LA server, we all then have had the same amount of time experiencing and testing the game fairly.

Thank you for reading this.

lold. You know what a beta is for? Downtimes happen.

I worked for EA Tiburon for 4 years in QA lol I am very familiar with the development cycle.

I am familiar too that a player who can log in only during the downtime and error periods that they will get far less play time than someone who is able to log in during optimal operation periods. That being said, yes, for downtime, as it greatly impacts different users in different ways, not because it simply exists.

I feel that there should be at least one more closed beta if they don’t extend this one. There’s some pretty big bugs that still need to be addressed before the game goes to open beta and I don’t know that 3 more weeks is enough time to fix them. I guess we’ll see though, since they are pretty good about letting us know they’re working on the current bugs.

You guys are acting like the beta ends in a week…

Welp, that’s up to IMC. I think that despite their polite treatment of us as future customers, we should realize our role here. We are beta testers, we are not customers, not yet. The point of the current iteration of the game is to test, not to make things “fair” for everyone. There is no competition between servers and nothing “unfair” being done here.

On a side note, the third beta test in Korea did get extended, so that COULD happen, but don’t count on it.

I think that the LA server getting an extra week is completely justified and it’d defeat the purpose of the server to extend everyone else’s time. There was so much conflict that they had to resort to making another server. Considering people have to start over, it’d be a slap in the face to the other people to do so. As much as I’d like to play longer, I don’t think it’s a good idea.

mr working in EA master race a beta test cost money and its not even going to end tomorrow so stop acting like it is.

You aren’t here as a player-customer, you are here as a player-tester, your role is to provide valuable feedback that can push this game in actual release, your priority shouldn’t be to enjoy the game atm but to help in making it enjoyable in the future.

Well I heard that latin america server will run for extra week you can transfer there. I am pretty sure that when other server close at 27 more than 90% of remaining player will go there.

I made no attack on you and I’d appreciate if you didn’t make unwarranted attacks on my person, direct or indirect.

A Beta in normal sense is about submitting feedback and reporting issues. Correct. However progression plays a large role in that, no? We won’t be able to test what we can’t reach. We can’t argue the balances in place for content we won’t see. The original servers will not likely progress as far in total as the LA server as their experience from the original servers will assist them in bypassing a lot of the first week difficulties. In addition it’s very likely that at least the final week of the Beta will be much smoother in terms of stability so their progression is even further reinforced by a more stable test environment.

We all played the first week together. LA’s first week on the new server will catch up the average player to our week 2 average player because of knowledge and experience alone. That being said we will get 4 weeks deep into progression where LA has the opportunity to get 5 weeks deep. When our server expires we will be able to relive our weeks 1-2 experience in their server for a week only to retest the same early game content that will have been tested twice prior where they will have been able to hit week 5’s level of progression.

For a very, very, exaggerated example… take a 10 year veteran of any title (say, one from the Diablo franchise for instance) and pit them against a new player. Who will make it farther in their first week, even first day, of playing? The player who is testing the waters, doing every quest, picking up everything, considering what build to make and researching and postulating, etc etc etc, or the guy who’s done it all before and takes his 10 years of experience to blaze on through?

Yeah, it’s not exactly the same, but the point is in our first week a lot of the players on the original servers were new. And hardly any of the players for the LA server can be considered new after experiencing and reporting on their first week in the original servers. I know more about the play experience after my first week and I’m sure they do too.

It’s not unreasonable to suggest that all servers be open for the additional week because even then the original servers will still unlikely reach the same average progression compared to the LA server whether due to experience with the title or stability or both.

Then you have nothing to worry about. By the end of the remaining 3 weeks left, there will be hundreds of people at the level cap. It’s been 8 days now and there’s already at least a thousand people above Lvl 100. They’ll test that content for us.

i’m expecting to have icbt3 with more strict key distribution than our icbt2. i think this icbt2 phase is more like the stress testing phase of the cycle.

What I simply hate are players of your mindset. Should I point out everything wrong in your reply and this will be China’s next great wall of text.

Sorry if I end up attacking you because you posted that you work in EA etc etc, it irrirates me when someone brag about things like that when its very clear that they hardly understand what they are saying.

I will make it simple for you. You and not only you, even me is nothing but one small fish in a big pond of beta testers. Anyone can test this game so if I am IMC why would I waste money running CBT server for another week to cater players who are busyv IRL to test? There are tons of players who can do that for them.

IMC know what they wanna know. They can do anything in this testing to get the information they need. Your mindset is more about what you cannot test, obtain in this test, not what IMC can get from letting players like you test the game.

They might as well just add a week to the next beta instead, considering how many catastrophic bugs are already known.

Yes, I joined the forums 2 days ago and made my first post in a C3 Wizard thread.

I honestly don’t see a point in extending the beta. Most of the bugs are well known now and we need the devs to work on finishing up all the class circles and getting us into testing higher up classes so we can have an actual open beta or launch sometime in the next year maybe.

I never really saw that since 100k user’s can hardly be called a stress test over 3 servers. I was actually very surprised by the amount of lag considering they have scaling hosting too (unless they purposely bought the cheapest hosting package possible for some reason).

Typically when you host with amazon it can automatically detect the server load and scale to host more players (assuming your game can also scale via channels which it can).
