Experimental Full shield and sword Murm. The Tank One

Hi!

I’ve been playing a lot with my Doppel and decided to get an alternative as a breather for being always the DPS and the guy who “Spin-to-Win”. I picked up a tanky Murmillo build as a tank + support type for later content such as Earth Tower, FFL and the lots which require someone to lure mobs + tank bosses or heavy hitting mobs so their party members can deal damage while not being targeted.

My build has taken this route : Swordsman 1 > Peltasta 3 > Rodelero 3 > Murmillo 1(A little more LVL and It should be Murm )

Skill planner : Experimental murmillo tank

Things that I’ve done with it:

“Pelt & Rod classes needs to have high attribute lvl for their skills to deal a decent or moderate damage since they’re mostly pure CON which means their normal attacks / damage are low.”

My Character atm is pure CON i[/i] and STR i[/i], which can be altered whenever I have a Stat Reset Potion. Skill LVLs’ are above 50~60 with multi-hit skills dealing 4-6K per hit(Merc mission boss tests).

“That build require a lot of silver in terms of gears.”

Got it covered with my Doppel  Plate type and getting gear is always a challenging reward.

Now, I need some criticism with my planner for some changes and or pointers and if I should alter my stats. Thank you for reading and helping.

UPDATE Thank you to everyone who contributed their time and knowledge for tips and pointers. I have a not-solid but good plan for my Murm build now. Again, Thanks guys, hope you have your luck with your characters too :smiley_cat:

Hello Op,

I’m not a murmillo expert but I have 2-3 comments:

First you can drop langort, it is not boosted by Murmillo and not a good skill in general .

As a Pelt 3 you really should get Swashbuckling at Max lvl, it helps you to keep the aggro.
Putting more than 6 Ranks in Rim + Umbo won’t help you that much with damage, but pumping guardian isn’t a bad idea (monster are hitting like trucks at R8). A good combo is to combine good cloth armors with yellow gems (lvl 6-7 in pants and torso) and the cloth mastery with an high lvl guardian to ensure that you got covered in both damage types (Cloth virtov set with top, bottom and boots and Oghma gloves with green gems for accuracy).

Remember also that loosing a small portion of a small attack value won’t hurt you that much in regard of the bonus you gain.

You can also drop Montano for the same reason as Langort because at that time, you shouldn’t need different types of damage because of the “smash” gloves line.
Shield shoving isn’t bad to lvl because it deals nice damage and can possibly CC monsters.

so It’ll be something like that: Changes.

Good luck to you fellow Full CON adventurer. I’m trying to solo all the map with full con dragoon, and it is starting to be difficult on 32X maps.

I would recommend something more along the lines of this.

Gung Ho: only lv 3 for attr

Langort to Lv1 because the base damage is bad, but it is a 4 hit skill, so, it
should get better the more atk you get. It’s handy on PvP to counter multi hits because of the silence attribute. You can ignore the skill if you want.

High Guard is lv 3 for the +50 def attribute. Get just Lv 1 if you don’t care about those 50 def.

You can use the spare pelta points into Guardian and/or Umbo Thrust. Depends if you want 4 more seconds on armor break or more defense.

Montano is Lv 1 because it’s handy to have around for CC, but it’s slash type and mumillo does nothing for this.

Evade thrust is lv1 to have something to use alongside Langort but you can ignore this too if you want.

The last 2 (or 3) points on murmillo are also up to you. Frenzied Slash Lvs also increases the number of targets it can hit. Headbutt actually does more damage of what it says on the skill description, when you have your helmet on. I think it is 2X the base damage so, it’s is a really high dmg skill that can be increased even further by all your debuffs.

I want to try this build, almost for the same reason as OP, but I’m afraid of going CON>STR, like him.

Would DEX&CON still be good for this?

For PvE its def DEX&CON, my murm is pvp oriented so obliviously i had to invest points in STR for Block pen and DEX for accuracy, because of that mobs with the Evade buff dodge at least 60% of my attacks and i have 620 accuracy. Questing on 300+ maps was pretty annoying.

Thank you for the pointers. I’ll see what I can do with the R8 maps once I hit Murm  If only Skill reset pots are cheap…

I gotta ask as an old timer and a STR type. Aside from the mainstream saying that DEX is your end-game stat. STR can do pretty good tanking aspects as well as block pen and hp, but unlike CON. Also I’ve been curious as what other benefits DEX does to my build :unamused:

2 Things.

-Why Cloth set?

-LVL 6/7 green gems?

cloth set for mdef, then you slot them with yellow gems to boost your pdef, then buff guardian for another boost in pdef, get aspersio buff as well. This way, you boost your mdef easily.

Evasion, acc and crit rate while STR only gives Block Pen and PATK. With the gems buffs and transcendence STR is mainly Need for Block Pen really which is more of a PvP necessity for non Cata swords. Also Evasion is good because dodging won’t lower your equipment durability.

Well, if you end up getting a skill reset potion you can get GungHo and High guard to Lv 3, max their attributes, use the reset potion and just get Lv1 on both. You will keep the attributes and get some spare points this way.

Not sure if the High guard specialties attrs will work this way too. I have skill reset potion, gonna use it and test if you can just leave them at lv one after getting their attributes.

i think swordman don’t need cloth set because , superior kovos/shade greave is enough for mdef and higher than cloth set

i just answered his question for the reason why someone has suggested to him that he use cloth set.

while superior kovos/shade greaves may give higher mdef or be enough to cover mdef, remember there is cloth mastery that reduces magic damage received and increases mdef and most cloth armors have mdef in their stats

As for personal experience with STR&DEX Doppel. I see your point. The only question for me now is to whether invest on DEX while STR is at 200 and continue on CON & DEX build, leaving STR as it is.

Ah yes  the unfixable attribute bonus bugs. I got to try that once I get enough TP for pots.

I kind of verified some stuffs about some skills after the reset

Both High Guard Specialties still work after a skill reset even if you get Lv1 Umbo Blow and Rim Blow, but even with 5 levels less you can notice a difference in the damage.

Cassis Crista bonus for Headbutt is additive, so you get a +100% instead of a 2x dmg. This means that Slithering, High Kick and the very same Headbutt debuffs still don’t do anything to that extra 100%, they just get added dmg as well.

Evade Thrust actually seems to have a 100% block rate effect while casting the skill, tried with many mobs and all the physical attacks were blocked when timed corretly.

Someone could please tell me about what gems and cards to use with this build?

Obs.: I’m going DEX/CON

Hi, for most efficiency with this build try going yellow for bottom and top. As for boots, either green or blue and perma green for gloves.

-Green gem on gloves gives additional accuracy for you since mostly, you’ll focus more on CON than DEX.

-A feasible gem for boots is either Green or Blue since again, green provides added evasion when you lack dex, blue provides Mdef if you’re good with your evasion.

-Going full yellow on both top and bottom is a good choice since you’re a CON build which means high HP but low Pdef, while DEX will only give you evasion, not defense.

For Cards, naturally go Nuale, A dark Spectral Monarch, and if you’re rich, Glass mole / Ella.

-Dark Spectral Monarch is a good card for solo players. It makes you regen sp when defeating dark type monsters, which is a common in R8 maps.

-While the card system of IMC is still ugly atm, the best options for you is Ella for DEX compensation and Glass Mole for burst damage increase.

I hope this helps :smile_cat:

Thanks.

I’m going with more DEX than CON, but a lot of CON compared to most of the people, but it was really useful.

And I think that Glass Mole is the best option, since my DPS is going to be low, it seems better to boost my little burst after all the debuffs are on.

:smile:I wish IMC would revamp the card system. Some really good cards are being thrown away as fodder because of it.
