Exp rates - Will anyone make a second character and max it

So the exp-rates are fun and makes the game feel challenging even though it’s only tedious. This sense of fake achievement is going to scare players away from the game. There are too many casual MMORPG’s, which allows players to reach max level in a week or so, which people have gotten used to.

Even though the enthusiastic beta-testers love this game, we have to aim for a wider audience.

There are plenty of good suggestions on the forum at this moment, such as: Increased amount of grind spots, increased exp-rates, more rewarding drops from the monsters, etc.

And even the most hardcore of fans will probably think twice about trying to max a second character.

This game will need more than 5000 hardcore players on the European servers. Otherwise people will do the same as with Ragnarok, start playing on privates. That is my prediction at least.

This chart is an estimate of what the exp curve looks like.

It’s too early to tell how the game will be.

What we all agree on is that the grind shouldn’t start too early in the game since there are fewer grindind spots and we don’t have enough skills and equipment to make that grind enjoyable (I personally have no problem with it, though) to not risk people leaving the game too early.

But that’s something completely unrelated to the time required to max out a character completely.

First of all: why is it NECESSARY to max out a character? As much as we all agree on that the early game shouldn’t be as grindy as it is, the later levels (150/200+ assuming the cap is 500/600) should be really difficult and require a lot of time, since grinding at that point is (or should be) enjoyable.

Maybe we don’t even need to go beyond 500, something like a “soft cap” and the levels after that are just something to work towards without realistically being able to hit a hard cap.

Just things to consider about.

The old standards where max level is a near-impossible target have been all but lost these days.
Those of us who remember the joy of a game where simply being ‘high level’ was a status in and of itself are growing fewer day by day.

The answer… yes, but it will be for IMC to decide how many people might achieve that.
I say this as someone who has grown weary of both the slow and fast progressions of all MMOs.
What I hope to get is something else altogether.

Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I’d like clarification about the graph. Are the gaps (at 85, 135, etc…) just to make everything fit on it better? Is it assumed that after a gap all the experience is the additional experience that you would need to reach that level after reaching the level of the last break?

I’d definitely max at least two. :v
It really depends on how things feel in the higher levels too. This game does not seem to be about reaching max level so I don’t know why everyone is so concerned with being able to hit it. afaik there is not any announced post max level end game content. Which is great for me because I’d rather stay on an adventure than sit in town at max level w/ everyone else at max lvl, within 1 months time or less, waiting to run the same old end game dungeons/raids/pvp over and over…(<- every mmo i’ve played recently)

Also something I really liked about games with high exp curves / grinding is that exp became valuable
& the game devs could host different kinds of events that led to the community working together for exp.
Things like double exp events or triple exp for area x or y, leading to lots of active parties and such…
I dunno those were fun times for me. haha.

I would like to try out more than one build and I’m also a completionist. Should it be endurance or skill that defines the true elite of this game?

Personally I say BALANCE! Personally I need BALANCE! Too extreme in one way is bad. I am uninterested in games where I can rush to end-game contents fast, worse for me if all I need to do is questing. I like grinding as a way to hang out with friends, meet other people. I also am very not amused in melting my brain by doing a same task over and over and over again on a same place for too long (I were a blue collar, I have had enough doing repetitive tasks for hours on end, worse is I don’t even get paid doing that in a game). I too hate having my hands held, being able to figure things out myself is also one of the fun I want when playing a game. When I play a game, I want to feel rewarded, I want to have fun and I want the fun to stay for long (no rushing). I hope the developers can find a way to balance things out and make most of us happy no matter what side we are on. I am here to have fun, not to take the fun away from anyone.

I’d prefer a good balance of both personally. I see a lot of people on here not giving tedious menial labor any credit where it’s due – Being able to deal with it well / work with & around it is a skill in and of itself.

Is the server on NA or EU?

@Gankaare That’s exactly why I said and even repeated how the early levels shouldn’t be grindy.

Also unrelated to this, but endurance is also a skill.

I agree, it was awesome to be 15 year old and see a maxed out knight sitting in Payon when you yourself were a little tiny thief. The question is, where is the golden point. Where do we get the maximum amount players and at the same time, keep the high level status relevant?

Exactly! And for people who enjoy crafting and building an empire of wealth, should they really be restricted by the grind it takes to craft?

Everyone has a different opinion about what’s fun. I’m not saying that we should rush for the end game content. Or that we should have one more MMO that actually starts when you ding maxed out.

Would you not want more than one character on max level? Is it enough to be “only” high level?

The post didn’t mean to disagree with you, just saying what I want is balance. Even if I and you have different concepts of what is fun, we still have some common grounds for having fun in the game. The developers’ job is to maximum the fun of these common grounds while balance the difference between us, so they can please us without anyone cancel each other out. Sorry if what I just said sounds like a mess. Personally I don’t even know what is this “balance” thing I am talking about but this is the developers’ job to figure things out after all, not mine. Now not that I say we should not giving out our thoughts to them in form of feedback, just want to say that I hope we all can have our fun in the game instead of some get it while the others leave.

The discussion is needed. That’s why we give our two cents on the forum.

Never say you’re sorry for an opinion. A bro NEVER excuse them selves for being who they are and honest about what they think! :muscle:
